Would Appreciate Opinions On Altezza Handling
shotwood replied to londoner2001's topic in Altezza Club
AFAIK the TOM'S ECU should increase the torque more than the outright power. Without driving another Tezza and doing a back-to-back comparison, I wouldn't like to say what the difference is... Very stable, though mine does have stiff suspension. (Soon to be changed to APEXi coilovers). Turn-in is crisp and from 4000 rpm onwards, she flies. :P Not yet. I am hoping to go to the dyno session at TDI later on in the year. Everything on the car was fitted in Japan, so I'm in the dark there. Haven't noticed any quirks though so I suspect the mapping is fine. Though I stand to be corrected My advice, if you like Jap performance and good hadling coupled with a bit of luxury, is go for an Altezza. -
D2 is a Taiwanese brand, and is very cheap to get in Taiwan. Probably only 1/3 of the price of the more known brands. I personally does not like the brand, since they do locally some cheaty marketing. They are using pictures of German DTM cars and some of these cars have the D2 logo. However, D2 is one of the German telecom companies and has nothing to do with the D2 coilovers. Also, I think they registered the D2 name in the UK, but what I already said, the Mercedes pics they are using are used in the German DTM races, and have nothing to do with the UK. I personally do not have experience with their products. They got be of good quality, but because of the way they do their marketing , I don't dare to try their products. Reccomendation for all you folks with coilovers - the back brace WILL catch if you are 40mm or lower.... (especialy on speed humps)... Trust me - I took a fair amount of red paint off my rear one coming back from Germany.... :(
-
TTE also do coilovers B)

working on coilovers these will be built by a well known a respected brand, in Motorsport also a few other bits and bobs oh, also a big brake conversion kit, by a very well known Brake manufacturer :winky:

come on then, form an orderly queue..... who is going to fit my coilovers at gaydon then? :P (i'm not being serious, UNLESS, someone really wants to? )
-
Gaydon..... its a bit of a story.... I was planning to go but I have to take the girlfriend back to uni (oxford) but she has to be there for 4pm. Then before that I have to meet IMI around 12pm, so my car will be full of clothes and other stuff as i'm staying with friends in London for a couple of weeks. I could meet you at the oxford services though and then meet IMI later wherever i'm meeting him? I'm buying his coilovers if you hadnt guessed so in a word, no, i dont think i'll be going to gaydon now.

I'm planning to fit some coilovers myself and from reading the knowledgebase it seems the tools I dont have which I need are a ball joint splitter and some spring clamps. Now, my question is which ones do I need? I went to Halfords and they had about 5 or 6 different ball joint splitters ranging from £7 - £40 and soem different spring clamps too. Which ones should I get then? Any links or pictures would be helpful! (the ball joint splitter than you can see on the knowledgebase wasnt at halfords by the way. Colin

Ok, Just a few thoughts for those of you thinking about changing the suspension on your IS's. I've changed from Eibachs (-30mm) to TEIN Flex coilovers (with EDFC) and whilst a lot more expensive @ £1500 inc Gordon Browns nursery fees the difference in handling has been a revelation. No more pitching or rolling..........roundabouts near me that I would go round at 40 mph max (car rolling a lot) at the same speed there is amazing turn in feel, and hardly any roll at all........... The EDFC device is clever as well in that you can adjust the damping as you drive along !! also front rear bias all very trick. So...........I'd recommend the TEIN edfc kit and suggest you wait a while & starve the kids send the wife out to take a night job in Safeways then go for a coilover kit !!

Just to echo previous comments... Pukka lads jolly :duh: I just got coilovers, rollbars and a bit of service work on the S/C. Oh and a laser alignment to finish off with. Some memories .... SatNavs battling it out and getting all knotted up I Spy - well until our walkie talkie battery crapped out. Johnny pooping as we slid completely sideways in the snow towards a ditch. V-Power !!!! Still a bit left too - this stuff is the mutts B) And of course ... Lowest hand wins - 3 wins and you're out

Most Popular Coilover Spring Rates
jdmparts_guru replied to jdmparts_guru's topic in Brakes & Suspension
Tein NA are not coilovers, but a set of height adjustable shocks + springs. Tein S-Tech springs According to Tein's website there are 2 options for the Altezza (IS200 uses the same springs), soft and medium. Since most springs are progressive (means that they first appears to be relatively soft - and gradually become stiffer- when these are pressed), it is difficult to give a kg/mm figure. -
Most Popular Coilover Spring Rates
Monster-Mat replied to jdmparts_guru's topic in Brakes & Suspension
how much for the tein RA, and what diameter springs are they.there for the race car. i dont think the TTE coilovers give me the options i would like -
I got many questions on coilovers asking me if coilovers are always stiff and bouncy. So, ... Not all coilovers are for racing only! Here is a list of coilover spring rates of some popular coilover systems All numbers are Kg/mm^2 and the lower the number, the softer the ride. I have listed them from softest (near stock) to stiffest. Generally, the dampening rates are matched to the springs (so soft dampening with soft springs) (from Near-stock ...) Tein CS: 8/6 Tanabe Sustec-Pro S-O: 8/6 HKS LS+: 8/8 Ohlins PCV: 9/7 Bridgestone NPG: 9/7 Tein Flex: 10/8 HKS HiperMax II: 10/9 C-One: 12/10 Tein HA: 12/12 Apexi N1 Type V: 14/9 Zeal Function-Zi: 14/10 HKS Hipermax Pro: 16/12 Tein RA: 18/16 (to Extremely stiff)

I am not sure what still can be ordered for the JZS147. The reason why I came up with these eyelids, exhaust, springs, ... was because some people asked me. I believe that TRD, TTE, Toms, Toyota do not offer any specific JZS147/GS MK1 aftermarket parts anymore. What probably can be get are: bodykits (only limited) eyelids spoilers shocks springs coilovers headlights/taillights intake (Aristo TT only) exhausts/mufflers grilles ... other parts, but need to check

Hi! Last night I got to meet up with A group from LOC UK in Cologne, very nice people. Had some beers in the hotel bar and some food at Burger King in Frechen. Two local LOC members also joined, LuigiNintendo and Shark. Today Tony Goose's and Zee's cars got some coilovers, and Zee had some specially-made (brought by Mat) braces fitted. Some Pics: Workfloor with IS430 and Corolla Turbo in foreground Zee, Mat, Johnny and Ifraz discussing... ah... Japsai spoilers? Here you can see the brace under Zee's car Zee's car in four wheel alignment Very nice wheels, they are Maz's old golden Blitz wheels, which were beautifully refurbed and look the biz. Andy gives some pointers Tony Goose's very clean car Refitting the boot liner on Tony's car And thanks to GriM for not letting me feel left out and having a mod prepared for my IS. I now have a pair of very nice silver Philips rear indicator bulbs! Quote of the meet: What a big c***! (carkit). Cheers guys, till the next meet. RX-Men-8 P.S. hopefully you'll post the group photo with the formula 1 car!
