  1. Certain on that Carlos? Because that SC looks ageless :o :D How much is it likely to cost to get a similar to one to above? £2000 rims £1000 coilovers £1000 bodykit £1500 respary and mods? ? Car Please correct me where I am wrong, help with me other costs.
  2. For a rather extreme drop you have to go for the coilovers. No spring/shocks combination offer a drop that is more than 40 - 50 mm. The TRD spring/shocks combo has a relatively modest drop, prob. only 30 - 35mm
  3. I can get either Tanabe or HKS coilovers for around £700 mate... these normally retail at well over £1200!!
  4. apexi, tein and hks are all good for coilovers. Make sure you know what you want - some, due to the top mountings, are noisy over bumps etc. If you want to control the damping stiffness whilst on the move then Tein along with their EDFC is the only way to go. There may also be companies that sell shocks/springs as a set that will give you your required drop (TRD maybe?)
  5. I have been using eibach lowered springs on my IS for quite some time but feel I need to go lower. The eibachs lower by 30mm, cobra springs by 40mm but is it wise to go lower with springs alone? Will this damage the dampers? I wish to lower the rear end 50-60mm. Would it be better to by coilovers instead? I've seen brands such as apexi, tein, koni. What do you guys think and what brand is best?
  6. Hey guys, thanks for the advise. I have placed an order for the Tein S-tech springs (Medium tensile strength) and also the blue cusco sway stabiliser bars. S-tech springs makes a 35mm drop front and 28mm drop rear. Dunno whether this is going to affect my rims in the future though. I have one thing to bear in mind though, to drive slow on the slightest pothole or uneven roads. But this is just a starter for the suspension area. Overall, it cost about the same as a Tanabe sustec GF coilovers. However, as you guys recommended, sways bars are the main thing that makes a difference in cornering, handling, etc. So that's in the top priority. So I've got 2 mths wait now. B) Will make an update by then
  7. How much does the Eibach ones lower it by mate ? i want it low but also need it to be quite stiff as i gotta tow my jetski on it which weighs bout 500-600kg so dont want it to catch the arches if its too low , when i go for 18s though i will prob be puttin on some adjustable tein coilovers to keep it nice and stiff
  8. Thanks for the insight Mr Fargo, but would Tein springs coupled with sway bars make any difference? btw, arent sway bars also known at stabilisers. I'm not talking about 'cosmetic' top strut bars that goes over the shock mountings. Very contradicting indeed, as lots of people claim sway bars make a huge difference in cornering, handling, etc. Anyways, my first choice was to get the Tein Flex but then again the heavy price tag was a downer. (but its still in my wish list :winky: ) Tanabe's Sustec GF coilovers is my 2nd alternative, but are they really good? I'm more concern on ride quality, handling and most importantly to withstand potholes that would kill my future 18" rims. So the question now: Would Tein S-tech springs just simply do the job? As for the downpipes and headers I'm thinking to do a customised one, maintaining the exact diameter exits. Although I dont have supercharger but I would like to experiment with the downpipe first. I just want that extra exhaust sound and possibly some increase in torque..
  9. Thinking about suspension mods before I go ahead with installing 18" G-games rims. I've got only 2 options: 1. Get Tein springs with Cusco sway bars. I heard Tein springs make a drop of 1.5" all round, but I doubt that my rims will be safe from potholes, esp with a combination of stock shocks. Cheaper method though. But are there any handling improvement at all? 2. Or get Tanabe Sustec GF coilovers. Bit pricey and less flare compared to Teins. But I heard they do a great job, street and race. Seems like I cant compromise with the Tanabes (budget-wise) and with the price of the coilovers I can get springs AND sway bars, but if anyone here can convince me otherwise... :winky: Now my other concern would be downpiping. Are there any complications in changing to an aftermarket one? (with all that "Check Engine" warning and all) I heard replacing the downpipe would involve removing the pre-cats, thus increasing torque and exhaust sound. I also have to consider replacing the manifolds to go along with the downpipe. This true?
  10. I had that with my eibachs ! Could be how the spring is seated ? Only noticed it at slow speeds going over speed bumps get some coilovers :P :P
  11. Could you not swap the springs for some S/SE ones? The shocks are the same in all IS200's, just the springs are different. Should be lots of people here with the S/SE who have fitted lowering springs, coilovers etc. and have the old springs laying around There would probably be people who would swap your springs for their S/SE to make their car lower. Its seems a shame that you will miss out on having the Sport because of this
  12. Man...that is strange to hear!! I along with many others here feel that the IS range sits very high in terms of ride height.....before fitting my coilovers I found that a homeless guy had taken up residence in the gap between the rear tyre and wheel arch on my car... No seriously, you must be trying to scale some monster curbs man....since having my SE put down at least 40mm on the coilovers, I haven't had a single problem getting up or down any drive/curb/speed bump/or dip...etc. Even had me and three mates in the car yesterday...the exhaust made a very tiny amount of contact with a monster speed bump at one point...other than that the car was fine on every other road surface I came in contact with!!
  13. Forgive me if Im a bit stupid :duh: but if the 300 stuff fits the 200 and tezza, then why dont the tezza stuff (as quoted earlier) fit the 200? Im interested in this as this is going to be my next mod. I want to lower the car only about 25-30mm and stiffen the ride, but not too much. coilovers can be height adjusted and sometimes the stiffness can be adjusted as well, this will compensate somewhat the differences between the weight of the IS300 vs IS200 and Altezza. Many people do install the Altezza springs on a IS200 (similar weight as the Altezza) or IS300 (heavier than an Altezza) without problems. Most of these springs are tested/optimized for the Altezza, but it does not mean that they won't fit the IS200 or IS300. The ride, however, may be a little bit different, and installing Altezza springs on an IS300 will probably lead to a bigger drop of the front.
  14. Yeah in terms of height. The law states that when the car is jacked up the suspension springs MUST be under compression. On the coilovers you can lower them by using the collar nut and this can be adjusted past 'the point of compression' so that the spring is loose but still compressed when it is on the floor If you know what I mean ;) (Legal in some countries)
  15. Th Flex is the way to go if you want EDFC and medium - stiff suspension. The CS is very soft, some say even softer than stock. In general, all the Japanese made IS300 coilovers are the same as the IS200 or Altezza coilovers.
  16. From what I know, Fargo has the same coilovers on his 300 as I have got on my 200, the Apexi N1's. I think these are brilliant. I ride them on quite a firm setting and they corner superb, without being uncomfortable. Mine are set to the lowest setting possible without being illegal and I very rarely catch anything. Even going over the many speed bumps ( :tsktsk: things) in our area. Like i said to you before, do you want to borrow the 35mm drop springs for a while to see how it rides and make sure it doesn't catch too much before you shell out all that cash. :winky:
  17. OK I'm bringing this thread back from the dead, since the charger has been fitted and the roll bars etc the car still feels a bit dodgy when cornering at speed - I'm now looking at two kits, the Tein CS and the Tein Flex. I've done a load of searching the past couple of days but can't seem to get a definitive answer on these. Some say the Flex at the softest setting are about the same as stock and at firm are very firm, whereas I've seen other people saying that the Flex are almost as soft as stock at the hardest setting! I've seen that the Flex's can make noises whereas the CS's are silent. I'm looking to fit these up to an EDFC box as both are listed as compatible. What is this I've read about the Flexs and bounce in the ride? Is this a major problem? I saw a post where someone was thinking about replacing the coilovers due to the bounce in the ride so I'm guessing it must be pretty bad? I'd be looking to import as the US prices seem a match for the UK prices (ie $1,350 vs £1,350) - would the parts for the IS300 be a correct match for the UK IS200 or should I be buying from Japan? Thanks in advance guys
  18. Tanabe Coilovers are good, as are HKS, Blitz, TRD, Ohlin, Then come the anti-roll bars, then the Under chassis braces and then the Strut braces.... then your wallet should be pretty much empty... especially if you get the S/C!! if not....GET IT NOS`D!!! lol
  19. I dont have 18's but these are my 17's with 40 tyres dropped quite a bit on coilovers My Lowered Lex
  20. i got Tein coilovers with EDFC on my IS.......
  21. Its changed since then, coilovers, stiffer anti roll bars and a TTE front bumper :winky: I know its only part of the story, cant wait to see it.
  22. I have the TTE anti-rolls with the Japsai braces, TTE coilovers and a Cusco strut if that helps...... With the roll bars, coilovers and chassis braces the strut brace becomes redundant in everyday road use :winky:
  23. I have the TTE anti-rolls with the Japsai braces, TTE coilovers and a Cusco strut if that helps......
  24. you can consider removing the air suspension and put in some 'normal' shocks and springs. Or, you can put in some lower springs/shocks or even coilovers
  25. I have a request from those with the coilovers, does anybody have the metal badge that comes with the kit,if so and you are not using it do you wish to sell it to me for the price of a couple of beers. Cheers peeps.
