Lexus Model

  1. Can't find Steve's car in the garage but she's sweet, supercharger, nitrous, coilovers, HID's, I think maybe DDE's as well? Load of other mods too, Steve's car is the daddy :)
  2. Pretty much every single external mod you see on the car was fitted a few weeks back, took a day to do the bumpers, exhaust, coilovers, alloys etc, then it went into the bodyshop for a week to do the sideskirts and paint everything up to match - only got it back a week ago (which is why I don't want to sell it yet :P) Cost about 3.5k for that lot in total. I guess any body kit by the time it's all fitted is going to cost you close to a grand when you take in account bodyshop costs, then you've got the alloys, lowering springs / coilovers etc.. The good thing about the IS is the amount of kit you can get for it, there are loads of cars here all with different bits and bobs and they all look minted!
  3. Sounds like we have a good mixture, any of you guys have any issues with handling? Got to admit I'm more than happy with the car, she's so much better than stock now, can't really imagine ever going back to standard!! Mat, what improvements did you see with the uprated springs for the TTE coilovers? Is it mainly improvements for race use or would you recommend them for a daily driver? Cheers :)
  4. Monster......... HKS Hipermax II and TRD yellows (hard settings) race car.........TTE coilovers, harder springs, TTE bars, hard setting
  5. Tein coilovers NA type 16 damping settings setting on 7 from softest TTE anti roll bars Stiff settings on rears (only available adjustments on rears) Cusco upper front strut brace.. Car handles great ...If tracked correctly, thought I'd stress that point.
  6. Well my coilovers are screwed right to the bottom, as low as it will go. I think it's about a 55 mm drop. at the back end before the passengers get in it, you struggle to see any of the tyre under the wheel rear wheel arch.
  7. Doesn't affect ride quality at all mate, just reduces the roll you get around corners, there's a corner near me which you can only normally take at 15-20 (U bend) but with the coilovers and sways you can chuck her round and be accellerating while you're at it (only in the dry though!!!)
  8. They're on about bars which are even stiffer than the TRD Yellows (which I think are stiffer than the TTEs even on the hardest setting?!) I just saw one of the comments saying that the TRD Yellows were about as hard as you should get with coilovers and it made me think!
  9. Basically I think they tighten up both ends of the suspension so there is less flex, which results in less body roll being felt in the car, you really notice this when going round hard corners, but it's also noticable with any steering you do, you'll have minimised roll with the coilovers but the sway's just increase this reduction (does that make sense?!). I think because there's less roll the back end is more likely to jump out (oversteer I think) as the chassis can't absorb as much any more since the sways keep things under control. Mat C has the best explanation of all things suspension related, it's all a bit confusing for me!
  10. What settings have you got the TTE's on Dave? So that's: Aido: TTE Coilovers, TRD Race Sways (Hard) Dave: Tein Flex, TTE Sway Bars (Medium)
  11. The Prolex-uk mobile is on TTE anti roll bars and TEIN Flex coilovers with EDFC Also got the full TRD uprated bushes on :winky:
  12. OK, I see over on IS300.net lately they aren't recommending really stiff sway bars for use with coilovers, as it tightens the car up too much so you lose handling performance etc and increase the risk of oversteer (or maybe it's returning the car to neutral values?) Can't remember but it was said it could cause detrimental effects... They say the yellow TRDs which some of us have are pretty much at the limit to be used in conjunction with coilovers, so I thought I'd ask this question, what combos of coilover & sways (antiroll bars) are you guys using, and if you're using adjustable sways what setting have you got them on, ie soft, middle, hard etc.... I'm running the TRD Yellow Race spec sways and Zee's TTE Coilovers, and to me the car seems fantastic handling wise so I'm not sure what the guys over there mean... I'm also interested in doing one of those days where you spend a few hours in a skid pad and learn how to control understeer and oversteer, that's kind of linked to this, any of you guys done anything like that? I just need to lose a few stone before they'll let me near it!!!! TIA Results so far: Aido: TTE Coilovers, TRD Race Sways (Hard) Dave Ellen: Tein Flex Coilovers, TTE Sways (Medium) Scorpion: Tein SS Coilovers, TTE Sways (Medium) Fargo: Apexi Type V N1 Coilovers, TTE Sways (Hard) Tony Goose: TTE Coilovers, TTE Sways (Medium) Bazza: Tein Coilovers, TRD Race Sways (Hard) Maz: Tein Coilovers, TTE Sways (Unknown) Dark_IS200: HKS Hiper Coilovers, HKS Sways (Hard) SteveAudioX: Tein NA Coilovers, TTE Sways (Hard) Mat C: White Car: HKS Hiper Coilovers, TRD Race Sways (Hard) Mat C: Black Car: TTE Coilovers, TTE Sways (Hard) Duncan: TTE Coilovers, TTE Sways (Hard)
  13. I have 18x 8.5 on 35 offset. on front and back. rolling on Toyo Proxes T1-S 225/40ZR18 all round. Car lowered 35mm+ albeit on adjustable coilovers. I had slight rubbing on the front until I had the arches rolled. Now, no problems whatsoever. See HERE
  14. It doesn't take much to make it a sports car - just coilovers, anti-rolls & strut braces. Soon as I have some spare pocket money I'll be buying all that stuff, although I'll only get the real advantage a few days a year on the track.
  15. I could do with a copy of the optimum settings, I'll be having some coilovers fitted in the not too distant future
  16. Tony, its at -50 so i cant go any lower on the coilovers i have :o
  17. Following on from Pete's trip to Abbey last week I had my camber sorted out by a local company today who've done an excellent job for me. I'd like to say a big thank-you to Tony from Wheels in Motion as Tony worked out some settings for me which the guys in Buxton tried on my car today - it is amazing how much better the car feels now, the coilovers made a big difference to my car but it's been unstable at high speed for a long time, since well before I got the coilovers fitted, but now she's running incredibly well! Had new tyres fitted yesterday by a local company, and they told me they couldn't do the camber as they didn't have the machines any more (never used them enough to make them worthwhile) so sent me to their branch in Buxton, I've just got back (even saw Ifraz on the way back through Bakewell) and the trip was great, the car just loves corners now and I'd hit a ton without even realising I was above 60! Will have to take more notice now but the car handles so much better it's untrue! Think the average speed throughout all of the windy roads was at least 60-70, I couldn't believe how easy it was to chuck around, felt like I was doing 30 in a normal car!!! So, any of you looking to get your camber sorted, the company is called Selecta Tyre in Buxton, and the same company in Ripley fitted my tyres, very happy indeed :) Great prices, and a superb service! And for those of you that are modded, Tony at Wheels in Motion offers excellent advice on all things geometry related, and I think Pete's car and mine are testament to that :) Thanks Tony :)
  18. Errrr... what Dave probably means is: Bilstein coilovers for the GS300/400/430, which are height adjustable (like all coilovers), but this set cannot be adjusted for stiffness
  19. Welcome to the club ! I can get you a set of Bilstein uprated coilovers for your GS if its a series 2 car. They are adjustable for damping levels not height tho
  20. on mine, I think -35mm lowering is not enough specially for the rear. I am still waiting for my coilovers to lower it more :(
  21. While mine isnt as low as everyone else's I want to play too so here is My Lowered Lex :) I have no idea how much lower this is but it scraped on everything bigger than a peanut M&M. I guess it has something to do with the lower profile tyres on the 17" wheels. I had to raise it up slighty to make it practical, and now Ive sold my coilovers so im going to be high riding it again but on lowered springs, (when I get some)
  22. The dampers are new genuine Lexus ones , fitted by the dealer ... Mebbe I'll go for a set of Spax or some Coilovers, on the rear only.
  23. i think as with all upgraded items that when you gain one thing on the other hand you will loose another the upgraded clutches will give a far better performance but the downside of it will be a bit of noise as with all items ie:coilovers / 18"wheels etc etc you cant have your cake and eat it
  24. B4 i put coilovers on i had H&R's -35 on my Sport and they were fine, even with 4 up.!!
