  1. Define the term Coilovers?? Is this a specific part and if so who makes this. Aeroriv. ← Several Japanese companies do coilovers for the SC430/Soarer. I know that Toms and Tein offers coilovers for this car. Not cheap, but i think your SC430 was not cheap as well
  2. Mark, so the car's in the mag tomorrow, but it's got a problem? What's happening fella, is it still going to be in there tomorrow or is that postponed now? How serious is the damage? The first thing I thought of when you said the wheels were the wrong way was that I'd knackered it when I sat in it at JAE What do you mean by they're in the wrong direction by the way, are they pointing out sideways like the Delorean in Back to the Future :P Or is the camber just severely out like mine was when I first had the coilovers put on before they settled down so they were like / --- \ ?? And if it was alright when it left Mat but it has a problem now where has it been - has anyone took it out or are you just extremely particular? Not a dig mate just wondering if you're picking up on something that would be within other people's spec? And when it's in Girl Racer, will there be girl's draped all over it - can I come down too and let them all drape over my 'monster' What does crabbing mean by the way? Sounds like something the doctor sorted for me, does it mean the car is constantly snaking side to side? Thanks for any answers pal, a lot of these terms are over my head as you can probably tell Looking forward to it finished, it was awesome last time I saw it, and it just keeps getting better :)
  3. Rob (fluff34567) drives in the snow a lot and says the snow tyres make a massive difference to the IS and it's fine in the snow with those - you might as well forget it with summer tyres but the clue is in the name after all.... To be honest I was petrified last time it snowed as I'd just had the car suspension all done, bigger alloys, coilovers etc and I thought it would be shocking, but in all fairness it behaved better than when it was standard - wouldn't have thought that should have been the case?!
  4. Define the term Coilovers?? Is this a specific part and if so who makes this. I complained to Lexus as supposedly the 2005 model has improved the ride, whether with another brand of RF tires in conjunction with the springs and shocks but not according to Lexus retrofitted to my 02 model. Other than that the car is near damm perfecto. Aeroriv.
  5. Installing coilovers will improve the handling a lot. After that you can consider underbraces and strut tower bars.
  6. I posted some images recently of my car, having had the Prolex-UK eyelids fitted. And, what was really noticeable to me, was that my car really needs to be lower It would appear that small children have setup a climbing frame in my wheelarches, and play there during the day Was chatting about this with LOC's resident photoshop guru (Mr S. Face), and he lowered the car. So we went from Current, small children infested version Photoshopped lower Its not the best of shots to use for this exercise, but it was the best one I had lieing around. The second shot looks pretty much like what I want. I'm not a fan of the "slammed to the floor" look - so not thinking of going really low on coilovers. Whats the concensus on a Gs430 on Eibach / TTE springs? I had these on my IS, and was very happy - nice drop, and not too much impact on the ride quality. Can I expect the same on the GS? Is the 'chop above roughly right for a set of springs do you think? Kudos must be given to scarface - he volunteered to do this, and did about seven different version at different heights. He even did an exotic "on the beach" version which I now have as my desktop background! Nice one sir!
  7. Wow I can't believe my car is on here cheers Oli. Was just searching around to get info on the engine and there it was. The wheels are indeed R34 GTRs 18 by 9 with 30 offset, think they needed a tiny roll to fit them. Its a 2.5 1JZ GTE with a few bolt ons, T&E vertex bodykit, Tein HE coilovers and Recaro SPG front seats. I hope to do a few of the UK D1 rounds and some track days when the car comes over. Maybe if you don't mind a old toyota I can come to a few Lexus meets :D Alex
  8. I have experimented with all kinds of springs and coilovers, and i think that the Tein CS or the HKS LS+ are the best for my taste. It is still very comfortable, but handling is improved a lot. I also had the Apexi WS coilovers for awhile, but these were a little too soft for my taste.
  9. The gap on standard GSs is very big. One of the reasons I haven't put my 18" wheels on my car. You have 3 choices. 1 - Get the GS sport suspension (2003 onwards) 2 - Coilovers 3 - Eibach springs Of the 3 the Eibach springs would be the worst option. Fitted those to my 1998 GS and although it looked better being lowered 30mm and the body roll was better the springs never felt matched to the shocks and just highlighted the shortcomings of the GS suspension set up. This may be better on face lifted models as the suspension set up was improved anyway but I wouldn't waste my money on another set. Brettster your GS does look lower because yours is a GS Sport and is lower. Matt's as a GS SE with sport pack which never had lowered suspension because it took Lexus nearly 3 years to try and get a good set up. That is why the sport was stopped at the end of 2000 and didn't come back until mid 2003.
  10. i have changed the suspension on my GS300 several times. When i received my GS, it had the stock 16" wheels and stock springs and shocks.... i hated the ride ... it was like a Buick ... Then i replaced my 16" (with 225/16/45 tires) with the 17" (235/17/40) and installed KYB shocks and KGmm lowering springs ... a huge improvement... the floating was gone.... Then i decided to go for the Apexi WS coilovers ... and the ride was improved even more... i started liking the ride... Now i have Sportek coilovers and 18" (235/18/40 + 265/18/35) and installed TRD Sportivo sways in front and rear ... and lately installed a STB ... i can tell you that the ride is really good. Even better than the bimmers i have driven in ... still very comfortable, but excellent handling... and of coz ... lots of modding fun
  11. High mileage is ok. The cars, including the engines, are pretty reliable and long lasting. Definitely insist on full dealer service history if you ever plan to sell the car. SE has 17s, Sport has 17s and is lowered. Up to you. You get much more than this like sun-roof, half leather etc so you might still want an SE or Sport. If you really want to go cheap and just get something as a base for modding then go for the S. Thats what I did. I went with darker tints than standard on the Sport and wanted different wheels anyway etc. For not much money my car looks individual and better than standard SE and Sport. Sport isn't lowered by much (15mm). Most people lower it by at least 30mm (eg Eibach springs). Some feel the gap at the rear is still too much and go lower with coilovers. You can get the car a bit more responsive through exhaust, induction and piggy-back ecu. I've not done it yet so someone else could advise better. It's not lightning fast as standard but the handling, smooth acceleration and 6 speed box mean it's more enjoyable and feels faster than the figures suggest. Search and you'll find plenty on these sort of mods. 40k service is big (£300), 60k service bigger (£600). Dunno when the cambelt change is. The SE and Sport come with half-leather. I think the LE comes with full leather. Not sure though. The standard stereo sounds very good. The CD player can be unreliable so make sure you buy one which has had it changed. Replacing it is not straight forward without replacing the speakers and amp. I think the S is meant to be easier to swap cause it doesn't have the wierd speakers and seperate amp. I'm no expert though so best use search and find what others have done. There's no aux in either so most use a tape adapter or fm modulator to get an MP3 player into it.
  12. I think ... keep the LS400 ;) ... it is bigger, more powerful than a GS. However, if you want better handling ... you can install some nice coilovers, bigger wheels, and ... a nice bodykit ... ... and i am not biased ... i have a GS300 mk2
  13. exhaust induction kit anti roll bars quick shift springs/coilovers supercharger in that order
  14. well no one gave any infomation........i was left to try and work it out myself, why didnt someone just say they were the Tein NA. I did ask earlier for Marcus to get closer pics..........i cannot see the slots. Rather than letting everyone Guess, you could of helped people to help you explain it. i didnt even know untill a couple of posts back that these were Your OLD dampers. remeber aswell barrie you thougfht you adjusted Coilovers by compressing the spring so had you put a little info out, maybe someone else could have explained it better to Marcus how this set of dampers works
  15. because if the spring seat platforms dont move.........they will only go as low as the spring seat platform will allow. as the spring seat doesnt move.............you get the drift so for us to know if these are height adjustable suspension units, can you tell me if the bottom spring seat platform moves, for it to move there has to be threads, or a means to lock it at an adjusted amount by the way you dont need C spanners, you dont get them with TTE coilovers
  16. Hi, i have the bodykit with eibach springs with no problem over speed humps. You just have to watch when you park head on and remeber not to catch the pavement, I've had the odd scrape. I've now gone lower with coilovers (approx 45mm) with no problems as yet! :winky:
  17. positive i had them on mine when lowered on coilovers and they were fine, only on a very few extreme occasions did they actuially rub the wheel liner at the top of the front and i think you will find the monster runs with 40mm as well :D
  18. looking at the height of your car? i would be easier to lower the world than try to lift the car....lol, thing is some will be able to benifit and sadly some not, even if your tooooo low it can still be a good day out and maybe a geometry day with questions answered will be of interest, tyre wear, alignment, geometry, handling, wheels size, coilovers, arb's are an ongoing subject so a collaborated effort with a geometry meet may benifit future advice? and help with immediate problems, the date i will leave up to you all to decide.
  19. Theres no point in setting the car on STD settings if your planning to lower the car on coilovers and go lower as it will need a new setting.
  20. The cameras sit at about "5 to and 5 past" and are about ten mill high, Scorpion can give the best "can do, cant do" opinion. Lets go for it! a club meet, Free geometry check, it will be nice to see all of us face to face and conclude some geometry issuses at the same time. ← sounds cool but what sort of time/mileage should be done before the checks are done , after fitting new coilovers
  21. no, they will rub fenders. You need 42mm+ upfront, and u will most certainly require coilovers as the wheel would hit the suspension spring/seat. I doubt u can make 8.5" wide wheels fit even with right offset, too wide!
  22. if you can afford buying 19" wheels, I would settle for nothing less than coilovers, such that you can set your own drop. There is someone selling coilovers ... search the forum.
  23. The 1999-2000 models have the bits you state but the 2003+ GS300 sport don't have HID lights or yellow :yack: foglights or a large rear spoiler (only a very small lip spoiler). The biggest expense of the sport are the wheels and if you are going to change them it would be cheaper to purchase an SE and add the other sport bits. The sport isn't really lowered enough and the ride is poor so you possibly would also want to replace the suspension anyway for some coilovers.
  24. OK, can offer the following for all IS/Altezza owners £880.00 coilovers (height adjustable NOT damping but retain OEM top mounts) £160.00 springs (-30 mm) £315.00 anti roll bars £300.00 Prolex-uk uprated suspension bushes(price TBC) Or even better value some bundled goodies £450.00 stage 1 Prolex-uk suspension kit (springs&anti roll bars) £1,050.00 stage 2 Prolex-uk suspension kit (coilovers anti roll bars) £1,250.00 stage 3 prolex-uk suspension kit as stage 2 but with Prolex-uk uprated suspension bushes All prices are inclusive of VAT and delivery to UK addresses.
  25. are the coilovers noisy ? what drop is obtainable with them ? what does retain top mounts mean? do the bushes make much of a difference ?
