  1. Thanks for the help so far! :D I had a chance meet with Gord today (well yesterday looking at the time! ) and he suggested that I could get something that alot of people that tow caravans put on their springs to stop the suspension from "bottoming out" due to the weight. It is like a bump stop, but you put it sort of round the spring. He couldn't remember what they were called. It does the same job as a bump stop in that they limit suspension travel but the springs don't have to be taken off so wouldn't have to get a new geometry done. Any ideas what he means? Coilovers are tempting but I wouldn't want to lower the car more then it is now and I would ideally want a soft(ish) ride. I'll look into it since the price seems to have come down abit recently. I know the ride can be pretty hard with coilovers over poor roads which is what most of the roads round my end are like! :duh: @ - Mr Singh Not being able to see your amazing car at JAE was a major dissapointment! Also with your car being so low has it ever "bottomed out" on bumps - or because you have coilovers you've never had the problem?? :D Thanks
  2. I had to raise mine with 100kilos of ICE going in, but now the car is unsettled slightly so will be going for firmer springs. If you are doing this quite regular there is no need at all to fit coilovers if you Don't plan to go lower. Simple solution is to contact Leda Suspension and have them build some custom rear spings with higher poundage which will help keep the car from sinking its a55 to the floor.
  3. Using Adjustable coilovers would allow you to get the peferct height you want and they are designed to to work at almost any height with maximum efficiency, where as lowered springs are only half the solution
  4. Thanks Matt - makes me feel better/worse at the same time! When I got the car lowered I had in fact printed out your excellent guide to lowering and showed it to them. They followed it and it didn't says anywhere the bump stops should be cut!! Is this something to be concerned about? Should I get them put back on? I could try to go back to the garage and try and get them to put some new ones on - Blame them? Trouble is that then I assume I'd have to get the geometry done again!! :tsktsk: :tsktsk: More wasted money!! Its the summer hollidays = lots of family day trips! How would fitting Coilovers be a solution to this? I thought that they mean the car could be lowered more??? Do they not sit any lower with more weight then? Also...why is my car lower now then in NOV 04? Is that just the springs settling? Thanks alot, Anees PS Wish I could afford the Prolex Air suspension!! :D
  5. if there are more people in the car, the car will sit lower (more weight) as for the chassis braces scraping, no need to worry there young man, there made from the same steel that is used in Bridge construction, you think yours scrape, you should see the ones on the drift car. an advantage is that its the braces scraping........and not the underneath of your car. the only real solution to this would be to fit coilovers, and there was no reason whatso ever for the person who fitted your springs, to Cut the bump stop, no reason whatso ever!!
  6. i am looking at somewhere that does a rear brace for the gs they do braces for the is too will let you know its cheap as chips ;) ← This will not fit and IS300 since the engine is closer to the hood. Prolex have been tweaking one for my IS300 and it should be fitted very soon. This is also suitable for cars with coilovers.
  7. Doodlebug's car is a typical example of the.... Asian: Castor setting European: Castor setting GB: Castor setting. There is a need to explain the 'why' factor.... does anyone want to read it? . . . MacRS200, and wheels-inmotion are involved in another geometrical project that involves/ coilovers/ adjustment/ lowering/ adjustment/ and so on, the final mapping will display a scale for lowering and geometrical recovery......we hope
  8. You won't get 20's on there without some serious arch modification. Go for 19's and coilovers - check out Mr Singh's ride
  9. Yup I got em on the IS Stiffer than the standard IS Sport springs and I would say that the handling was much better after fitting, reduced body roll and got about a 20 - 25mm drop against the Sport springs. I would say that they are as good as the coilovers that I have on the Tezza but I have still to get the Geo done on that, so anticipate a change there as the Apexi ride is harder again. Can't give a comparison against Eibachs or TTE's as I have never driven a car with them on. Overall I would say very happy with the PI's :D Hope that helps
  10. Hi guys im new to the site im pickin up my is200 hopefully wednesday i bought these on ebay Lexus IS200 "Coilovers" "TEIN STREET 16/4" The tein street have 16 Damping force adjustment & 4 lowering points. This is a very good setup for the IS200 , this setup would cost you about £600 NEW! They have to go, so Happy Bidding and thank you for looking i got these for £350 any1 got a set of these or know of any1 with a set??
  11. personally i think for a good all round set up, you cannot go wroong with the TTE coilovers, so much so, thats what is currently fitted to the drift car, albeit slightly modified. on the Monster, its running HKS
  12. I don't follow - my lowered ride on coilovers is MUCH harder (plus the odd knock) than with the previous springs setup
  13. "Fact is this!"....... I dont know the reason i went in on Sunday unpaid and worked on the car with you and Neil for "free" is because i have never set-up coilovers before and i wanted to learn, anyone who says they know it all is a liar, even my area i cannot experience every example with every car ever made? logic would suggest "load" the coil "lift" the car, all that read this thread who are thinking of lowering your car what will you buy...."lowering" srings!
  14. nice of you too of let me know you didnt want my coilovers that you asked me about....
  15. I agree, anti roll bars are definately the most bang for the buck handling mod. From the ones that I know of and have had the opportunity to check out, the TRD sportivo ones are the mildest upgrades, the TRD yellow ones in the middle and the cusco ones the hardest. It may not always be the best thing to go for the hardest ones because the ride does get noticably 'choppier' on bumpy, b roads. as for coilovers, there are some relatively comfortable ones. most notably the HKS Hipermax LS, which some users swear are even more comfortable than stock (damping, rebound rates perhaps?)
  16. When you say Wallowly.... do you mean the car is slightly tipsy? like it rocks like a boat side to side? Check your shocks mate, they may well be leaking ;) Std. Altezza is no harsher than a IS200 or IS300.. Although the Altezza seems more glued to the road. Either way i'd save for set of coilovers, some on ebay at the mo too!
  17. hmm... I would save and get coilovers - harsher ride I know but then if you wanted comfort you would have bought an IS? anti roll bars seem to be the best bargain per buck for handling, get those then coilovers if you need later when you have enough.
  18. Personally - it depends on how much you want to spend. Up to £500 - TTE/Eibach springs and anti-roll bars. Over £500 - Coilovers, Anti-roll-bars, chasis braces and strut braces.
  19. The only English speaking dealer of Kei Office coilovers that I know of is www.driftoffice.com (urm, don't believe everything they say on their Kei Office FAQ. They are very good coilovers no doubt, but perhaps not as magnificent as made out to be by the FAQ). That said, there are various agencies over here (singapore) who are very experienced with the Japanese market and should be able to source for items required. The same should apply for the Hongkong workshops. Prices are typically lower than the american dealers. So perhaps you can try that.
  20. The Mrs's Pug had a knock that sounded just like the coilovers. Took it to the dealer who sorted it under warranty, asked what the problem was once fixed and was told that it was the ARB drop link. ← What's the ARB drop link
  21. Looks much better on the coilovers mate....
  22. The Mrs's Pug had a knock that sounded just like the coilovers. Took it to the dealer who sorted it under warranty, asked what the problem was once fixed and was told that it was the ARB drop link.
  23. Any ideas with the "knock".... I have to assume that a £1000 for a set of coilovers does not come with a "free" knocking sound! surely in development any issuses that would/ could knock would have been dealt with.
  24. Independent suspension ie:- not coil over oil has a "bump" stop within the spring, this is not possible with coilovers. I feel the knock must come from a surrounding component, ARB drop link is my immediate suspect..... I would like to "thank you" Fargo for your help today, your experience proved valuable for the success of the outcome......"true" team LOC :D
