  1. Thanks for all the replies peeps.

I went to see the car yesterday and it really does have all the toys. DVD screens in the back with a Playstation included. Ex Lex demo plus one owner. I drove the car for 15 minutes and it didn`t feel sluggush or anything. Nothing special either I might add. Absolutely cannot fault the luxury side though. Just looks the mutts marraccas.

The dealer actually called Lexus and asked about any outstanding recalls or warranted work carried out but they wouldn`t tell him as he`s not the owner?????? Hmmmmmm. All they said was something about a rubber mat. Hmmmmm even stranger

Have to see a 2008 Accord this morning them will make my mind up after that.

    P.S. Here`s the car http://users.autoexposure.co.uk/vehicle.cfm?Account=AETA13580&Style=6&Id=AETV15797032&feature=active_sharing

  2. Just been reading about the 5th valve being replaced. Is this a manufacturers fault to be replaced under warranty, even if the official warranty has expired?

I`m getting depressed now reading about the faults. I was soooo looking forward to getting this car but having 2nd thoughts now. Squeaks etc don`t bother me, just mechanical problems.

I`ve only got until tomorrow to make my mind up.

Is there much difference in mpg between the petrol and diesel?

  3. Hi mate. I'm one of the loyal brand followers of Lexus, so, here is my two-penneth.. I'm getting fed up with those who continually knock the IS220D. Yes there are some small problems, all which are resolvable under warranty if your lucky enough to have one which is still running. I've had the minor problem of squeaky seat, dashboard crack, drivers door rattle and a small clutch problem All have been dealt with in an excellent and trouble free manner by our local Aberdeen Lexus dealer. Fuel consumption in my humble opinion is very good for a car of that size and weight. (40-48mpg and as much as 52mpg on a long motorway run). It is a prestigous car with looks wonderful and has extras that bits and pieces that other so called similar badged models have. I love my 220D as did I my IS200 sport, so, my advice is... forget the continual moans (which are few and far between compared to some other models) and be assured your getting a wonderful machine. ( I do respect others opinions, but just feel there are too many negatives about a car which is really great)....

    Cheers for that Col.

All new cars have various anomalies like you describe, of various degrees. I`ve only once ever bought a brand new car and had more trouble with that, than any other.

I`d expect though, as a 4 year old car would have these niggles sorted.

I was looking for some advice on any mechanical worries I should be looking for on a 50k mile model. Does anything need to be changed out at around this sort of mileage? (I know my original post says 60k but it`s actually 50k miles)

I`m quite happy to compromise a bit of fuel consumption over luxury. I don`t do excessive miles anyway and also have my Supra for the weekends :D I`ve also to look at an Accord which boasts 60mpg or so but I know which car I`ll be buying if the Lexus is a 'straight' car. I like toys :winky:

  4. Copied this from another section.

    ........................................

    Hi Guys,

Haven`t been around since getting rid of my GS300 some years ago but am going back to Lexus again.

I read, albeit some older posts, where people were condemming the 220D as a terrible car basically.

I`m looking at a SE-L tomorrow. 2006. 60k miles and was wondering what peoples opinions were nowadays.

Also, is there anything, problemwise, I should be looking out for?

    Thanks in advance.

  5. hi thanks guys i bought the car i wan to ask you someting about the car

BLACK GREY LEATHER 1999 t reg

4 owners (guy i bought off owned it for last 5 years and paid 21500 for car in feb 2002 from lexus main dealer)

106500 motorway miles flsh at every 12000 miles belts done at 63k

1 year mot 3 months tax

    interior and exterior usual wear

good condition not brilliant just stone chips and bits here and there

    exhaust rattling everything else works

I PAID £5950 DID I GET RIPPED OFF?

oh and its due a B service cost is approx £250

I think you did a wee bit. £500 cheaper would have been nearer the mark but that`s only MY opinion. I haven`t checked Glass`s or owt.

  6. I have reviewed my fuel costs after 11,000 miles in my GS. Average mpg works out at 20mpg, which is lower than what it should be.

Have serviced the car, no check engine lights have appeared. Everything appears to be in order.

I got my codes read on Saturday, turns out my oxygen sensors are :tsktsk:

Worn oxygen sensors lead to poor mpg (up to 30% more fuel used), and poor performance. They can wear out after just 60-70k miles. Mine is now 95k.

Replacing oxygen sensors is a DIY job, and I'm buying mine from the US for 30 quid each.

I feel like such a stupid person, as I've spent £750 MORE on petrol this year, that I didn't need to, if I had pulled the codes when I bought the car.

Learn from my experience, and if you're driving an older GS (or even LS), get your diagnostic codes checked to see if your oxygen sensors are worn out..could save you a packet in petrol!!!

Hey Pimp.....how you doin` these days.

    Interesting post mate.

Well I have the same problem with my GTO and am expecting my universal (well I wasn`t going to Mitsustealer for it) sensor tomorrow. 50 pounds delivered including the special spanner.

I would say that we should change the sensors every say 25k miles as a force of habit because they`re gonna be on their way out by then anyway due to the very nature of their location.

  7. Thanks lads and I`ll still be hanging around the site tho` for a while.

Got a real bargain here. It needs a clutch though but I knew that anyway. Has a good spec list as well.

Was out pricing a paint/graffix job for it this morning so it may look different in a month or two.

Maneesh......what a difference mate. Dunno how it compares to an Aristo but the power is phenomenal compared to the N/A model.

    Supposedly running 380 BHP

Couple of snaps for those who are interested.

  8. Well lads (and lasses if any).........bought myself a GTO yesterday so the Lex' has gone into Autotrader today.

Hopefully I`ll manage to sell it soon and pick up an old Mondeo or something to run around in. Don`t think I`m asking daft money for it but time will tell. There aren`t many Sports around.

It`s been great being on the site and wish I could have contributed more. I`ve enjoyed speaking to you all, especially to The Pimp. Maneesh.......get yourself a proper fast car mate :winky: You know you want to.

    All the best,

    Andy

  9. Yeah.....I like boxing though not so much nowadays.

I loved the 'golden middleweight' era with all the greats, Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Leonard and the numerous other quality boxers of that time. Will we ever see their like again as I don`t think there has been or will be a crop like them over a sort of 10 year period.

The heavyweight division is a joke these days and much prefer going to the 'gentlemens boxing evenings' and supporting the youngsters.
