  8. a friend has one of the early 80's porsches and its still going strong. its probably one of the very few 80's porsches that wasn't reversed through a hedge buy a yuppie!
  9. I've just hooked my subs up to my home stereo (Krell KAV300) and I'm very suprised by how low they are and how much they are moving around considering the Krell can only supply about 1/3 of their power handling capability. I've decided that I'm probably best getting a professional to do the install in the car so can anyone recommend a good company to do the install. The install doesn't have to be too fancy at the moment just need to be able to get it done quickly and be somewhere near London.
  10. i had no problems with that dealer (i think it was the same one - near bmw and porsche garage?), very helpful etc. i did scare the poor sales man during the test drive though other cars that i test drove either before getting the IS or since i got it (thought about changing / getting second car a few times) Audi S3 - Two doors put me off Honda S2000 - Again too impractical Lotus Exige w/ 190hp kit - Nice but no creature comforts that I'd got use to (power steering, power assisted brake, air-con, switch controls not from a Mini!) Ferrari 360 Spider - Lovely car, great to drive but a 4 year waiting list for the spider. Lamborghini Diablo - Too wide, driving through central london made it feel like a small bus!
  11. At 1.2 bar you will run into a lot of problems though, I think you would want to change pistons and conrods before going to 1.2 bar. You will probably hit problems with the standard fuelling well before 1.2 bar, I think you would need at least a new fuel regulator, probably pump and injectors as well otherwise you are not going to be able to get the AFR you need. Gear box could also be a problem, see this thread for a bit of a discussion about it http://teamlexus.co.uk/forums/viewthread.php?tid=1921 How far have you got in this conversion so far and have you run into any of these problems yet?
  12. pot holes and bad roads are a big problem, i've often been going quick enough to hit the front spoiler on a bump in the road
  13. claire, you need 500 to get four stars, keep posting in this topic and see how close you can get before steve shuts it down! i think that LOC should do a deal, anyone with more than 5000 posts gets a free supercharger
  14. just wanted to post to get a third star!:D
  15. my car is almost three years old and has corroded discs and the same wheel problem. its been kerbed quite a few times (bad driving when i first got it). i have 2 months before warranty runs out, do you think i will have any problems changing? anyone that saw my car at JAE will vouch for the fact that i keep my wheels in tip top condition won't they? ;)
  16. i've just done the conversions on TRD328's dyno and the power loss from crank to wheels is very high on the auto box: wheels: 79.8Kw hp to kw conversion: * 0.746 HP = 79.8 / 0.746 = 107HP Engine HP = 155HP Loss = 30.97% !! Now: wheels = 140.8KW Engine = ( 140.8 / 0.746 ) / 0.6903 = 273HP The manual box from dboey is more like 19.9% I will be getting a dyno done soon, I'll post the results once its done.
  17. [Police Siren] Excuse me sir, could you explain what was going on back there? The wife was listening to the gear stick Why was she listening to the gear stick? To try to find a strange noise But this is a Lexus, it doesn't make strange noises, your nicked my son.
  18. i think that crank a 0.8 - 0.85 is a good approximation for a manual gear box (15-20% power loss) for automatic i think it it more like 0.75 - 0.8 (20-25% power loss). it is much more complicated than this but is probably a reasonable approximation.
  19. you get about 200-210 at the crank, I think the 170 dyno is at the wheels
  20. is this still going or am i too late?
  21. mine originally came with the potenza's, as matt said they wore out very quickly (about 9000 miles). changed them for michelin pilot sport, grip is better and more progressive but noise is definately up. i will change to either toyo proxes, advan neova, need to do more research first or advan 048
  22. i had an err3 on mine as well, the dealer replaced the whole unit at the service but had to send the old unit back to get the cd's out of it (still haven't got them back - 3 months waiting now :() i've not had the same problem on the new one. the last problem occurred whilst driving in the lake district, pressed the change disc button and went over a bump whilst the disc was changing, whole lot jammed up and got an err3
  23. hmm, 21, do you think she'd be interested in a 25 year old with a very quick lexus?
