  1. Dark, does the strut brace really make a difference?

The front struct brace was the first modification that I carried out, it was a quick job to fit (about 15 minutes) and the front end is so much better - turn in was noticeably better, could probably carry 5 - 10mph more around the same corner without any problems.

  2. Hi all,

I have just got a lex IS200, after being parted with my 200 SX...

I need to have more power, but not sure i can part with 3-4k after just getting the car..

Can anyone help and tell me what options i have??

Is there somthing in the middle from the 6bhp chip to the supercharger??

    Cheers

    S

Replace the air filter or change to an induction kit: http://www.tdi-plc.com/is200.html

I like the Nitrous idea but has anyone tried Nitrous on an IS200???

Suspension work - not going to increase HP but the difference that a 100 pound front strut brace makes is amazing

  3. well i hope you are gonna install the cancer research software on it.. that will churn out some data!

mat will tell you about it

I've got the UnitedDevices one installed and running - is that the one that you meant or is there another one?

  4. I was coming home from london once at 5am in the mornin and was behind this car... The M3 motorway was empty... looked down at the radio for 1 second.. looked up and the car in front was gone.

tut, tut, don't play with the radio while driving on the motorway!

  5. Either way, it's up to the individual to have this mod or not. Most people know it can/may effect their insurance claim/warranty. Obviously you take that into your own risk. What Geoffer's done is great (actaully brilliant :yahoo: ) and if people want to pay £'ss to have it done then let them. I'll take Geoffer's invention any day  B)

Actually I didn't think about the potential insurance problems with this, doesn't worry me too much though - I've purchased all the components in Geoffer's diagrams and will be building it anyway. If the car gets stolen it probably won't ever come back so the insurance company will never know.

    Unless they read this post...

  6. What a wonderful thread this has turned into!

Geoffers.....I've said it before and I'll say it again - very well done to you. You put in alot of work, and time, and the result seems to be perfect. Though I've not installed it myself yet (will be this weekend) I've spoken with others who have and they're well chuffed.

Chip.....bare in mind we're talking about a Lexus here. In my case, for example - I have a factory fit alarm and drive the car everyday. It's a VERY useful mod that Geoffers has created. HOWEVER.....the cars which I guess you're leaning more towards (the more extreme/modified ones) will of course need bigger and better alarms - with pagers, trackers, anti-hijack etc (I used to have all this on my old car....an Escort Cosworth). My point is that I think it should be put into persepctive a little. For the modified cars you need £500+ alarm systems. For mine (and others similar to me) it's a subtle .....and cheap.... mod which adds to the usefulness of the car.

    Thanks

    Tony

I think Chip is talking more about the fact that you are modifying your car in a way that interfaces with the existing alarm system and could be perceived to alter the system. An insurance company will use any excuse it can find to get out of paying for a claim and this could be one way they get out of it since you are effectively tampering with the alarm system - they could also claim that it caused a malfunction or anything. Even though the added circuit cannot cause any problems the insurance company could probably decide that it does and make up its own mind.

  7. Sadly only one way to find out how much pressure they can take and that tends to be exensive, LOL

As far as the rods go though, a lot of the time rod failures on tuned engines come more from stretching at high revs than from being compressed with lots of power and obviously a turbo is only going to increase power in the middle of the rev range not make you use more revs.

Dodgy ground though with it being an expensive engine to rebuild, but i would have thought that 250bhp was pretty safe.

Piston failure is most often due to temperatures, so providing you throw enough fuel in a the same time to cool the crown, again i dont think it will be an issue for relatively low power outputs like 250bhp or so. (and probably around 300lbft of torque maximum)

    Chip

Fuelling is fine on my car, putting out more than 250 though and red line at 6500. Rods and pistons are my next mod before upping boost again and adding nitrous.

  8. Yeah thats me.

Thats going up through the gears, 0-60 i havent got an accurate time for, we were trying it but kept getting wheel spin creep in at 50mph or so when i came on boost which meant timing off the speedo was impossible as it was whipping the speedo round to 60 with the wheelspin, gave impressive times like that though, about 4 seconds, LOL

In reality i think nearer to 6 is about right though. As a guy i know has slightly modded wrx that does it in 5.1 (timed properly with timing gear not just off the speedo) and i dont catch him till after 60mph when we race from a standing start so it must be slower than 5.1

I havent had a chance to take it up the quarter mile yet, but im guessing its going to run a 13 or so due to the problems with traction, what i really need is to put the engine in the back, 300bhp+ in a fwd car weighing naff all is always going to be hard to put down onto the road.

    Chip

Not sure I'd fancy the torque steer from a 300bhp fwd car :D the Focus RS is bad enough.

Does the car have a torque steer problem or not too bad?

  9. An intercooler isnt going to give you "too much boost" at all, in fact its even MORE essential in many ways on a car with such high compression.

The biggest risk that you have on a turbo charged motor is detonation and a hotter inlet charge increase the risk of that happening.

The more boost you run the more this is an issue.

All comes back to good old boyles law:

    pv=nrt

My own personal recomendation would be to get the kit with the T25, but to then get cometic to make you up a decent multi layer steel head gastket, this way you can drop the CR down cheaply and easily and run a little more boost.

    Chip

Best sort out the pistons and rods first (see pic). Not really built for much horsepower, I'm a bit worried about mine - starting to drag race it so not sure how they will hold up.
