  1. Now theres a Idea and it would be one of a kind for this model car :D

Would that be an Aristo V600 QT? :D

/*thinks of the trouble involved in getting a pair of auto boxes to work in sync - naaaaahh...*/

nah you get rid of the auto boxes and run them into........ no stop now i said no encouragement

so what flange fitting does the standard twin turbo's use i can't move for t4 flanges but i dunno what the standard one is anyone any idea.

ok not to worry a few things have resolved themselves as the turbo's turned up today. However theres a bloody big crack in the flange courtesy of DHL who will be getting some shortly

if i get this up and running does it mean i can use the aristo TT downpipes and decats?

  3. I love and have a big interest in the art of Japanese Kanji writing and had an idea to get creative and do something a little bit different with a graphic yet at the same time try keep the car as unique and true to its jap roots as possible. What do ye think?

I know some will hate and some will love but I just said I'd show you and maybe it might get some people thinking about different ways to get creative.

Apologies for camera phone pic quality.

i assume you know but be wary of using kanji characters for non japanese words as they don't translate all the time might be better off trying katakana

  5. Hi,

Myself i find it more fun driving the car,i dont find it much fun nowadays working on them as most of the time nothing goes to plan.

As to getting a Supra Yep there a cool car B) but you could have yourself 2 maybe 3 Aristo for the price of one TT Supra :D

    Chips..

does that mean i could have one aristo with an engine in the front an engine in the boot and one to spare

imagine the horsepower now that would be a project :D

(i'm kidding please don't encourage my stupid ideas)

  6. i hear what you say about being different ! however someone said buy a aristo TT....I'd second that 100% particulary a series 2.....

If i went for a newer motor i would go for the supra, the lex will always be there to play with though. It would make sense to get the base and work from it but wheres the fun in that

  7. I was looking for this URL: http://www.clubna-t.com/

The Americans do a lot of turbo conversions on N/A Supras and SC300s, not sure about IS/GS300s.

There are a few "NA-T" Supras on http://www.mkivsupra.net/.

its not about easy its about making it your own :D the sc300 and the n/a supra are the same engine as the GS so it should translate

In an ideal world eventually i will get hold of a 2jz-gte but that has to wait so i want something to play with as i'm getting bored

well i won the turbos anyway at 30 quid i can afford to lose them if needs be plus i'll have spares if anyone ever needs them lol

  9. Think it would be a bit of a job IMHO. Prob be a waste of resources.

Do you know the history of the turbos ? they are ceramic and known to fail after 70/80k miles.....

Got some stuff lying about which may interest you...

they are cheap enough to risk and its just the chance to lay down the basics and have a play. Refurbing the turbo's not a problem either if i can get hold of the parts, i have the technology :D.

At the min i'm not looking to spend 5-6k maybe next year rather than buy something else minds not made up yet :winky:

  10. I had a look at the springs today and sure enough they are both broken at the bottom on the smallest coil, about 2-3 inches of spring has snapped off. The passenger side was a clean break and the small part was loose so I removed it without any force.

It looks like they have been broken for a while, there is too much corrosion at the break point for it to be recent, yet they hadn't been picked on previous services or MOTs. That said on initial inspection I couldn't see the breaks and it was only because I was looking for them that I saw them, otherwise they were easy to miss.

The breaks might explain the intermittent creaks that have come from the front of the car since I've had it.

they are easy to change you just need a socket set 14mm for the top mounts i think, 17mm for the anti roll bar links and 20 oddmm for the bottom of the shock (might not be accurate as its from memory) you do need compressors to get the springs on though.

After the first corner it took me about 30 min a corner to change the springs and rebuild so its not too gruelling

Will say that the tangs that you tighten the anti roll bar links against are made of chocolate so be wary of bending them if you do that its either new links or improvisation

  11. well done mate isn't it a greater sense of satisfaction when you can say "i did this" rater than letting the garage do it.

Out of interest how many bits have you got left over is normally traditional to have three odd bolts :D

  12. Im surprised to here both fronts are broken :o

So was I, especially after the car didn't need a B service which saved me £200. There goes that money!

all round that is, Mark may well correct me as it was about 12 months ago i bought them i am assuming the sports front suspension is the same as the normal GS though bar the coil length

  13. Hi Austin,

I think i read a post on here saying it would be about £50 for a kit to refurbish the caliper.

I think the J spec caliper is the same as the uk GS300 car.

From what ive read if you go for the big brake caliper (4 pots) then yes you will need larger wheels.

    Hope thats of some help.

    Chips..

well the bigger wheels aren't a problem now bought some 18's today oops is that £50 a caliper

  14. I had my car serviced today and one of the things was ticked red and amber on the Vehicle Safety Report, it was for Steering/Suspension commenting that both my front coil springs were broken.

I have a 1996 GS300 Sport and believe the springs are shorter than the normal GS, so would like to know the correct part number(s), price and what they are like to change?

    Please can anybody help?

contact TDi and get some eibachs they will do nicely about £214 if i remember correctly

  15. Just recently i have started to get alot of clanks and clunks from the calipers when driving and sometimes when the brakes are applied. I have had the calipers out anti-siezed them repacked bits with grease etc but a few weeks on the problems back. I have an idea that a few of the rattles could be solved with replacing the anti rattle springs and getting some new rear pads (which i will as soon as i know which ones they are).

Really with the age the car is now i think replacing or refurbishing the calipers may be the way ahead so i thought there may be some around here who could fill me in on the details :D

    1. Will supra calipers go on as a direct fit and which ones are better the J spec or uk, also do i need 17's min to run supra brakes

    2. Where can you get caliper kits and how much are they.

    3. Are there any other calipers i can adapt to fit

I'm not looking to go big brake upgrade at the minute before someone suggests it too. Need more HP first to warrant it ;)

    Austin

  16. GS430 just not desirable - it's not a hyped up saloon car. Most saloons depreciate loads.

I bought the import Aristo V300 which is same features/bhp as the GS430 for a mere 22K / 6 months old. I've probably lost 50% in 5 years as a result. Aristo V300 has some additional bells and whistles such as 4 wheel steering and F1 shift - but big bonus is the tuneable 2JZ-GTE engine as found in the Supra.

Personally, if I wanted to save some bucks, I'd slap a supercharger on your GS430 and get the suspension reworked with TRD and Tein coilovers, maybe drop in a limited slip diff and you'll find it performing very much like the new M5 'cept with comfier seats. :)

Remember, M5s depreciate wads too...the safest bet is the M3 for lower depreciation.

this is probably why i will never get rid of my GS i'll just take it off the road and change the running gear and engine etc and definately why i would never buy a brand new car unless i had the money to burn. If i consider how closely i am lookign at supras at the minute and if i part with 10k for one how much of the lex can i change for that. in reality i don't need any more gadgets in the car i'm still in awe of the moving steering wheel :D
