  1. we tried this out for real a long time ago on a camp i was based at. One winter the police kept knocking down our snowmen we built near the SQN so we built one around a concrete bollard :D

Not as impressive as the link but it made me chortle at the time

:lol::lol: brillant... did they much damage?

30mph in the snow into concrete the car was very poorly and so was the 2 coppers neck braces all round and a thorough telling off for messing around

  2. OMG

Can my next car be made of that stuff

    :lol::lol::lol:

a mix of that and the stuff they make black boxes from lol

Black boxes are actually orange ;)

  3. I was looking at the manifold gasket on the engine yesterday and there's a good 3-4mm difference. So I would say the difference will definately be noticed.

On the intake side.. Apart from matching the ports up, what else can be done if anything? As the intake manifold is made of plastic I assume that you can't do anything with that?

Be very careful Adie :excl:. We did a lot of air flow testing and research on this head some time ago. The intake port runners do not like being opened up because it causes a reduction in air velocity. All of the gains came from modifications to valve bowl areas. Having said that, if you are looking for power in excess of what the standard port runners can support then they will need to be opened up. This is a science that is calculable.

The exhaust ports are a completely different scenario. The port runners have to be opened up a lot but only in one particular place to avoid spoiling the results.

Airflow technology is a fascinating subject

Effective head porting is not really a DIY job.

The inlet manifolds are made of plastic.

    Hope this helps :)

are you trying to say that the days of standing with die grinder, grinding paste and stick are gone :D (thank *** for that)

yes i agree fluid dynamics is fun if a little mind boggling at times when you get alot of variables.

Did you get the gains from smoothing the valve bowl areas then ?

  4. hi again,

lot's of new topic by me, but really, I just have question that I haven't found an answer for in old threads... :whistling:

anyhow, a cold air intake for my car... prolex one won't fit - I believe - as the abs thingy is in the way.

I've seen somewhere a picture of Monster-Mat's car (an old one, I suppose) where the filter & pipe sat nicely on the right side of the engine bay (lookin from the outside) but I don't know if it was custom made or what.

I then come across THIS but really can't tell if these ppl are mixing up the altezza with the IS... anybody ever tried this AEM Short Ram Air Intake System - 22-464 ?

The page says "parts for IS200", but you're never too sure... ;)

We have a LHD car in at the moment..........can look to makesomething up if you wish ?

    Please PM me if interested

Is there a mod to put the steering wheel on the proper side :hehe:

  5. The more you charge them as well for instance I do everyday the more it becomes weaker over time, I'm pretty sure they are designed like this though. As Fidgits says make sure u use the Hold button as sumtimes it can come on and drain itself.

there is a known fault wit hthe ipod batteries so much so that some stores in america withdrew them and refused to sell them. apple however refuse to acknowledge there is a problem with them

  6. Austin,

I can source Lexus caliper repair kits (got some in for mark 2 GS) they are £60 plus VAT

Can ask my brake factor for you if you want (for non Lexus)

ITs for the Mk1 GS i want them and is that 60 per caliper i want the 2 fronts watching a couple of supra turbo calipers at the min so if that fails i will need them. I will get around to figuring out which rear pads i need too sometime

  7. For my carputer, have got via epia sp motherboard. Testing at home, powered it up, you hear the fan starting, but NO beep from motherboard, and NO vga signal going to monitor. Have tried backup via epia M series board, and also two different monitors. Still the same.

I'm thinking it's something to do with bios/cmos settings??

    Any ideas guys?

have you tried a hard reset using the jumpers and pulling the mainboard Battery?

  8. So you admit you come from DEVON?

    where the fook is that?

    Ahhhh, Mr Morse....

I'm a cornish boy misplaced in London at the moment, and if you ever get the chance to drive to cornwall, the A30 from Exeter to Bodmin is one of THE best roads you will ever drive on, guaranteed.

Winding (but fast, 100-130) dual-carriageway, completley across the moors away from any build-up areas, no police, and bugger all traffic.

It's about the only part of driving to cornwall I enjoy,

Slightly :offtopic: I know, but devon/cornwall, kinda similar :D

Well STFU you gay carrot-cruncher and let the bell-end speak for himself!

Mike i forgot to mention when can i sign up for your diplomacy course :D :P

  9. thanks for reply. i managed to drain the radiator but didn't go as far as you suggested. i have managed to top up with 5 litres. i will keep topping up to see how much i can put in.

i think its 7.5l is the system max when i dropped it and replen'd it i got out about 6 3/4 L in total according to the marks on the side of the container then managed to put another 1/4L in later either way its going to be better than the old stuff

  10. Just noticed that i have green fluid in my radiator and it doesnt appeared to have been changed the last time i had it serviced. since i have no japanese history with the car i have decided to flust the system and change anti freeze. i dont want to take radiator out as i believe in "if its not broken dont fix it".

the other reason for flushing system is that the engine bay feels very very hot but my temperature gauge never goes over the half way mark. car runs fine but am just thinking if everything is ok.

i have bought 10 litres of toyota long life antifreeze (red one). but i want to make sure am doing everything right.

    1. i have opened the radiator cap and opened the drain on the right hand side of rad. i can see fluid escaping but am i draining everything out this way or am i missing something. does the engine block empty this way as i have been told not to mix different colors of anti freeze.

2 what do i check for before or during putting new anti freeze in radiator?

3 how do i avoid air locks?

right disconnecr the hoses from the radiator and whack a garden hose in there and flush the block and rad till its running clear and turn the engine over to flush the block as otherwise you have to remove the pump or thermostat (i'm guessing i did it differently) thats will get most of the fluid out, then simply top up with the proper red coolant. Its self bleeding too so its all good :D .

Just check you haven't got any leaks and you have done the drain up before you refill ;)

  11. Whats the best thing to have done to the cylinder head with regards gas flowing, porting and polishing and what's the difference??

I think! its only done to N/A cars to get more power..........all so if you did it to a Turbo,ed car i dont think you would see much more power out of the car..........some one who knows more about this put me right if im not.... ;)

saves me typing out a lengthy reply :D

  12. Hi,

Yep the RX7 when there running right is a very quick car and the road holding is very good.

But the Engines can be alot of trouble and expensive to put right and there very poor on fuel, not when you look at buying that sort of car your after mpg :D

Heres a link to a engine rebuild thread of a friend of mine who had to rebuild his engine not long after he bought his, might be worth you seeing what your getting into before you spend your money.

    http://www.ultimatejapcars.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=10685

Id have a RX7 as a second car and do rate them :)

    Good Luck..

    Chips..

yep had one and everything chips said is true the reason for the engine rebuilds is that the sintered tips on the rotors go and obviously you lose compression. However they are fantastic to drive look beautiful and corner like they are on rails.

Big downside is you need to know them as specialists are few and far between even with the RX-8 being around.

This is the one car that would make me um and arr about getting a supra :winky:

  13. Just sorted out a high idle problem on the car. The symptoms were an idle speed of 1000rpm and a drop off of about 250rpm when selecting gear, also occasional stalls when braking hard from speed.

I had the idle air valve out for a clean (beware those screws are made of particularly soft toffee) and cleaned the apeture, this dropped the idle speed down to what it should be 500 - 750rpm but it was lumpy as an aardvarks bum and stalled quickly after. After a quick look around the throttle body i found that the vacuum line on the top at the front was split and leaking air so changed it and voila problem solved.

Just thought someone might benefit in the future if they have similar problems

    Austin
