  1. hello,

ive got the same problem, the engine starts and sounds like a deisel and then it would go quiet after about 5 mins. The problem ive got now is that it sounds like a deisel all day, ive changed oil (shell helix plus), oil filter, even changed the timing belt, transmission oil and ive also added lucas oil to the engine oil.

there has been no change

100 000 mileage done on engine. (but after oil change the engine did quite down for a week and now has returned to the diesel sound.)

another problem that just started was the engine somtimes is seeking ive been told i need another distributor cap (i have iridium spark plugs) and when im driving, after i take the foot off the pedal the rev counter falls below the 750 idle point and then rises back up to the 750 idle.

    thanks for all the help

seeking? do you mean hunting as in the revs go up and down slightly?

i had a similar problem changed the leads and all is now well

  2. Been putting a few bits and pieces on the car recently and tomorrow will see the realisation of a new look front end (at long last), but to be fair i think i have been neglecting the rear.

Now i really like the supra type spoilers but finding one that will fit is a bugger

So if anyone has any idea of sources or sees any decent spoilers to fit a mk1 GS then let me know pics would be ideal too

No humoungous ones made out of wood either thanks :D

  3. I am from Lancs mate.

Jesus i wouldnt be a hard target to spot in woods to be fair...

I have (cant reemember the name at the mo') one of those pressure adjustable air riles so you can adjust whether to give someone a scare or leave them a hole LMFAO!

If you want a real hardcore test in corby go into the irish centre wearing a rangers top :D

If you decide on a meet dates depending i would be up for it my kids live there and i'm an ex resident too so i know the place

  4. As i posted a while ago i aquired a set of twin turbos that DHL have promptly dropped and knackered on delivery, compounded by the fact the sender p***ed about and hasn't bothered to claim or send a report to DHL i am now left with no alternative but to sort them myself and find out who he is on the supra forums as basically he pulled a c**ts trick on me by not sorting out the delivery people.

So i know a few people must have had turbo's reconned basically i reckon i need a new manifold (due to the big bloody crack) and two new spools and the bearings any information is gratefully received and i will painstakingly rebuild them (in work time obviously :D)

  5. OK...some confusion here

Could either of you point me in the direction of either a custom or off the shelf adaptor?

Lol i'll bow to matts superior knowledge he pointed me in the direction of these throttle bodies a while ago i may have seen one being sold with a custom adaptor which is what may have thrown me

  6. What's the size of the TB on the GTE?

Has anyone ever fitted an 80mm LS400 TB to either a GE or GTE?

Mike what you want is an Infinity Q45 90mm throttle body ;) plenty of adaptors available too if its not a straight fit

I think the throttle body is about 3" so roughly 75mm although i could be wrong i am taking an educated guess

  7. Ok i have a question. Can anyone please tell me the main differences 2JZ-GE and 2JZ-GTE? Came up in a discussion and i felt like a dolt! So please help!!

Oh and don't all you clever asses go telling me that the GTE has twin turbos :P

Different internals and compression ratios on the GE and GTE as the GTE is fed by the turbos it has a lower compression ratio, different pistons and rods due to the heat from the combustion cycle and different throttle bodies. A few things are positioned differently too and look a bit different

  8. Why can't you check the leads using a multimeter, to see if they are getting full voltage through or not?

whats the multimeter reading supposed to be ? :duh:

    A couple of kilovolts!

Out-of-circuit they should measure the same as your old ones, near enough.

Right all sorted must have been a dodgy plug connection or the fact the plugs were swimming in coolant from removing the throttle body

Removed the throttle body again took the leads off took the centre cover plate out removed the plugs and cleaned all the plug ports and crud out from between the two cam covers refitted everything and voila everything is ok.

Will say that replacing the leads has stopped the strange rumbling i had when parked in drive at the lights and the stalling problem i had when braking from speed to stand still so thats food for thought for anyone who experiences the problems i did

  9. Changed the leads on the car today and have developed a really strange problem with the car.

Start the car and rev the nuts off it without selecting gear and its fine but after a few minutes it starts to miss. Start the car and select gear and it starts to miss immediately.

I started the car and let it idle and disconnected each lead in sequence to see if i could find a dodgy lead but i get the same response from all leads (ok attatched, missing and lumpy when removed)

now obviously i had to remove the throttle body and the attaching lecky plugs when i changed the leads does anyone know if i could have created a vacuum/electric problem from that.

Needless to say i had no problems before i changed the leads so tomorrow i am swopping them back out one by one to see if i have one duff lead in there.

Any ideas would be welcome i'm a bit baffled at the minute

  10. Just recently i have started to get alot of clanks and clunks from the calipers when driving and sometimes when the brakes are applied. I have had the calipers out anti-siezed them repacked bits with grease etc but a few weeks on the problems back. I have an idea that a few of the rattles could be solved with replacing the anti rattle springs and getting some new rear pads (which i will as soon as i know which ones they are).

Really with the age the car is now i think replacing or refurbishing the calipers may be the way ahead so i thought there may be some around here who could fill me in on the details :D

    1. Will supra calipers go on as a direct fit and which ones are better the J spec or uk, also do i need 17's min to run supra brakes

    2. Where can you get caliper kits and how much are they.

    3. Are there any other calipers i can adapt to fit

I'm not looking to go big brake upgrade at the minute before someone suggests it too. Need more HP first to warrant it ;)

    Austin

    Hi Austin

I have same problem on my GS.

All sorts of clunks and clangs when braking.

Had calipers checked and all ok. Pads and disks are quite low so will be replacing all four disks and pads soon with some drilled and grooved disks and performance pads.

missed this post my pads and discs are quite low too i wonder if its a common effect of high brake wear

have you replaced them yet and if so whats the result has the noise stopped?
