  1. Ok, will give it a try...I assume you mean physically shutting them ? No 'new' metal on the dash either just the usual car park change in the ash tray. Had a look in history too, i see it has cropped up before, with expert advice from Monster Mat! I went to the dealers with the problem, they found nothing and suggested i went and had a new alarm fitted by someone else (cheaper)hmmm......anyway it has not gone off since Thursday, the sun has not heated up the car (remember the sun? big yellow thing in the day sky, not the talking moon above the naboutique!) ....heat is on my suspects list too.....Taking her on her holidays v.shortly to the Isle of Man, i will see if she behaves with her vents closed, i suspect however that my 'heat' theory will certainly not be tested over there!!
  2. Went off again yesterday....just the once!..had a look in the centre light...absolutely clean and clear, couldn't see the sensor though unless it looks like a pair of thin metal strips ??????, also tried rocking the car...no alarm from that...hmmmm
  3. No chance it is a nasty robber person, I actually was in full view of the car when it went off today, thro a big window! I have been down and had a look at the centre light, and the cover is as tight as an olympic cyclists leotard, but i will attempt to get it off anyway tomorrow to check for any wildlife.
  4. She just keeps going off at odd times, about once a fortnight/10days....at night when I am getting my beauty sleep, just now when immersed in finances, all sorts of times.....where are the sensors? can they be checked? have I got to sleep with the keys under my pillow in case it wakes the neighbours? Any ideas...I reeeeeeeally need beauty sleep! ??
  5. I had a sport it was brilliant, I now have a sportcross which is 'extra' brilliant !! Either way I suggest you are careful to get a good one with a good solid history and with no messing about, anything else and i would walk away, the IS is starting to get messed around with as prices decrease. I love my 300 to bits (apart from a little problem that I'm about to post for advice!)
  6. As a parent with two scroats in their 20's, Dad I suggest you get a 300, and tune if necessary....no scroat of mine is going to be able to leave me at the lights !!!
  7. The 3.0l engine used to have a 60k cam belt service interval, but may have been extended to 100k on newer models (post 2000). Check your service book to confirm. I've not heard stories of worn belts on the series I/II GS300/IS300 as with the IS200. Hi Just asked this question regarding the IS300 on the IS forum, but got no replies, as i was unsure. I have an 02 IS300...it says 100k in the book, but the talk about early changes on the 200 has made me unsure, it seems i can go to 100k with the 300, how can i clarify ? best to get it checked out. what milage have you done, also the is200 should be changed at 6yrs so if the is300 is the same yours would be due now any way with age! :) hope this has been some help 02 plate reg/d march-sept 2002 so it would be 6yrs old Good point, forgot about age. She has done 57000 miles, so close to the 60000 suggestions for the IS200, but a long way from the 100000 in the IS300 manual. If it is a different engine without belt 'issues' then I would usually think about it at about 80000, but if the belt material actually does deteriorate through age then it looks like I should have it done soonish, especially as I want to keep her despite the 100% road tax hit next year. Thanks!

  9. I know...another belt post! I got a bit confused a few weeks ago when on an IS200 belt post it was mentioned that it was thought that the IS300/3L engine did not need the earlier than reccommended belt change...can anyone clarify in nice simple terms, to aid my exceedingly simple brain!
  10. You know sometimes you think you have been going around with your eyes closed, well just had the tailgate resprayed under warranty, and you know that funny filler thingy on the inside that shields from prying eyes (no not the sliding cover, the one on the tailgate itself)...well mine is curved at the ends and it sticks up above the level of the cover...does yours? I can't remember mine doing this before ?? Also looking carefully, on this little filler thing there are two velcro pads, and on the tailgate two slots aligning with them, but these do nothing on my car ???? should there be additional fixings?? The question now is how many of you are as sad as me and will rush out to have a look !!!
  11. Have a look at www.moneysavingexpert.com, I have just gone with Auto-Aid based on recc's via the site. They are unusual in that you pay for the recovery and they pay you back....interested to see what you think, very economical and well thought of, they are also part of a very large broker organisation.
  12. Mid thirties, hmmm I am older generation as per then! Just read thro the posts and you will see that you're on the older side like me ! Oldies car, the IS, NAH ! good for driving, mods, info, reliability, and performance (if you know how to drive it) mines the 3 litre to show you whippersnappers a clean pair of heels ! Just make sure you get a good one, take it to Dr Bones for alignments, and off ya go. I will wear a helmet when driving, Stig style, so I don't upset you if you see me overtaking! welcome to the forum :D
  13. Oh, what a joy this beep beep post is can't resist joining in.....mines an auto and i get a beep.....beep.....beep....etc every couple of seconds when in reverse. Then when the sensors detect I get another beep..beep..beep (note the two dots between each beep this time), then beepbeepbeep (no dots) then beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, then crash, then b***** !!! actually it might be more of a peep..peep..peep....hmmmm another vital and interesting question for the forum ??
  14. Painting_the_Porch.doc This really made me larf!!!
  15. Not sure, but I think the shiny pipey bit that sticks out at the back is larger than the shiney pipey bit that was on my 200 ? (!)
  16. We have just been through the same exercise and decided to KEEP our lex, it is paid for and when you look at the real additional costs she's worth it. We had a look at a Suzki Swift Sport (don't laugh) and they are really impressive for the money.....but not a lex and the hidden costs of changing if you are not buying and selling private made the payback on the deal about 2 years....nah just been to France, up to York yesterday etc etc...she stays on the drive !!
  17. Is the cambelt change a job any decent garage can do properly, or is it a bit specialist and therefore best at a dealer (forgetting price) ??
  18. Yep, agree with that....first define what YOU mean by power....if you want to challenge the green light then maybe look elsewhere...if you want smooth and progressive power from a standstill the 300 is just the job....main thing then is to make sure you get a good 300 that only wants to see the garage at service time, mine is better than my previous 200sport in all respects apart from the impending 400 quid road tax !
  19. I have had both a 200 sport and now the sportcross, again not much difference in mpg, but the 300 power is more accessible without having to use the rev range as you do on the 200, this tends to make me drive quick but smoother...therefore little mpg difference.....looked at swopping the 300 for a more eco car last week but I COULD NOT DO IT !!! even when i was selling the 200 I decided I might have a change...but still ended up with another Lex !!
  20. Thanks Jack, I will have a go....when it stops raining !!
  21. Bit of a problem with lexy's rear wiper, it's going slow and making nasty grinding noises from the motor itself....anyone else had this problem ? Hopefully it's lubrication so any tips about getting the hatch rear panel off appreciated and we'll have a go when it stops raining / blowing a gale !!
