  1. lexus bristol & cardiff charge the same, A service all inclusive price of £250, B service is £450.

only extras if there is additional work required.

seem helpfull enough in Bristol, though they could not do a gearbox oil change so took it to toyota in cheltenham.

    Robin....

I get an A service on a Mk II on tuesday and have been quoted 173, but I guess that is without VAT and consumables (Lexus Stockport),

    I use Stockport alot, A = £170+vat, B= £300 & cambelt change £300.

Never had any problems, they ring if you require any extras fitted and if you book in advance they will collect your car and leave a IS200.

  2. Well, after 8 days off the road I am back up and running, total cost inc vat £693.It took Lexus awhile to resolve the problem, 2 main parts required were an ignition switch and an anti theft ECU comp security or whatever that is.

Lexus said that at some stage the car had had a panel removed and when put back the wiring became trapped and eventually caused the car to fail.

I just have to go along with the story, many thanks to Robin for his help.

Just my luck, had to pay out another £165 for road tax today.

    Rgds

    Ouch !!!

  3. Hi all

This morning I started my '94 LS400 and drove 5 miles to work but the car was making a strange noise from the engine bay area.It sounded like that whistling you sometimes get through the radio when you accelerate(Although the radio was off as well as the wipers lights and heater A/ C). It wouldn't go away and was also doing it while stationary and increased in pitch and volume on acceleration . When I got to work the noise had almost gone. I checked under the bonnet but nothing seemed out of the ordinary but I couldn't locate the sound. I drove 200 miles after work  :driving: so it couldn't have been too serious but has anyone got any ideas as to what it was or had similar whistling?

can you name the tune ?

  4. Thanks for the input so far guys, I have had a word with my mechanic friend and he feels that Bonathons answer maybe near the mark.

He felt that if my key unlocked the central locking that the immobilser may not be the problem so much as say the solinoid.

When turning the key there are two very slight clicks at the same time, one on the lower left side of the grill, which may be a small relay box and the other on the larger plastic lidded box next to the battery.

With hindsight I should have got someone to turn the engine over every few days.

It's disappointing for me because it is the best car I have ever owned.

    Many Thanks so far Guys.

    hi

i have the circuit diagram of the starter circuit if that helps.

having looked at it, there are several fuses & interlocks & relays on the system.

i can fax or scan it & email it too you if that helps.

    Robin...

  5. Read somewhere that condensation can freeze causing a short - when it thaws the short goes.

On a previous car when we had a similar cold weather / damp / thick oil / flat battery problem we park the car with the bonnet up in the sun all day - with the battery charged and engine "sundried" it started first time ...

sounds like the starter solanoid has gone. or the fuse to the solonoid or the relay for the soloniod.

    have your checked these ?

the park sensor sounds like you have checked.

the crude way of checking the starter soloind is to short out & by- pass the solonoid, though you have to be very carfull in what you are doing as large ammounts of current will flow ! sparks will fly.

    a spanner across the terminals.

  6. Thanks guys and thanks aido for the welcome  :)

Sounds like I haven't too much to worry about so long as I keep checking the oil level and  I'll get someone to look for another sensor in the sump.

    Lizzie

do you have too much oil in the engine ?

my other car a toyota - the oil light flashes when overfilled.

this can be worse than too little oil as when moving parts rotate & cant move the oil out of the way, something gives. normally the engine wall.

this is very expensive as you can imagine.

    -

however probalby is just the sensor but make usre car is level & check the oil leverl both hot & cold.

  7. :driving:

Can anyone advise where I can get a power steering oil tube part no.44410-50040 for a 1996 ls400  In france they want over 500 euros  thats 350 quid. then 2 hours to fit it.

also they say it is impossible to get an english instruction book for fitted telephone  anyone got one for sale?

  8. The LS i bought came with no paperwork so does anybody know if/what immobiliser/alarm is fitted to the car as STD,its a 92 LS400.

    cheers peeps.

    :)

on the 96 models it is a scorpion t5000, this was fitted lexus uk.

unfortunetly scorpion went bust a year ago.

you cannot get parts or get them repaired.

i even spoke to the people that took over scorpion, but there only solution was to buy a new system

i ended up getting a toad system fitted, (thatcham approved)

not cheap but lifetime gaurantee & supposed to have good reliability record.

  9. hi

my car for the last week (ls400 96 vintage) has been making a noise from the front off side suspension.

    it is a creaky noise.

it only happens at low speed (less than 20mph), it is on gentle bumps /road undulations only.

seems to be worse after driven a few miles & car is warmed up.

does not effect ride of handling in slightest, just iritating.

took it to garage (toyota in cheltenham- ex lexus).

they think it is the shock obsorber that is causing it.

any other thoughts before i splash out on new shocks ?

  10. I take it you have tested just swapping the disc then Robin?

    not on a lexus.

i have on mercedes cars & they use the teleatlas disks, except for very old cars they all use the teleatlas dx (the old ones non dx disks).

these disks are used also in bmw, audi etc etc.

pioneer also use teleatlas disks, though not sure of which type.

i am not sure who makes the lexus system, wethers its denso or other but

thats why if he could find someone with a 98 model & borrow a disk to try out.

the nav system should be able to upload the data if the correct disk is used.

if it isnt then you will just get an error message.

better to try that than spend couple of grand on an upgrade that may not work anyhow.

  11. Hello all, i have fitted a set of 19" wheels on my lexus and the car has the apperance that it has been raised. Is there anywhere that does lowering springs for these cars. i woul dlike a 30mm drop not to much but just enough to take the apperance that it has been raised away.

    cheers

sounds like it would be better to put origional wheels back on.

set were on eBay last week for £50.

  12. looks like a MKIII.

To get sat nav working you need to swap over the nav unit for a UK one, but as the LS didn't have nav in this country you could only use a 1998 unit which may not work.

Haven't heard of anybody doing this so there may even be other parts that need to be replaced.

Best find a scrapped MKIV LS400 and try swapping parts. Would cost you £2000+ it you got new parts from Lexus.

    Why ?

all you should need is the data disk for UK, however this may be the problem in itself if disk from a 98 is not compatible.

maybe someone could lend you one to try ?

    robin..

  13. thanks Andy ive sent both US companies e-mail

bear in mind that the daizen bushes will result in a firmer ride. Also, the daizen bushes don't include the main bush in the upper control arms, just the side ones. if it's the main bush that's worn in your upper control arms, you have no choice but to change the entire arm. just call sewells in the US, it's a lot quicker to deal with them over the phone. exchange rate is real good at the moment, you should be able to get both arms for less than 400 pounds including shipping and import duty.

i ordered from sewells on a friday afternoon, and monday morning the goods had arrived. I did pay 20 bucks extra for express delivery though.

    that was quick !

  14. cheers for the quick response, yeah the seat is defo not working as i have had the car 3 years and there is no heat coming from the seat.

with the abs sensor and radio i have been searching the breakers with no luck does anyone know of any lexus specialist breaker at all in the uk.

    cheers again

    try these

    robin....

the 2nd one had a 96 model yeat

  15. not having much luck !

i find the seat heating very suttle on my car it is a much more a backgoround warmth rather than in your face (or BUM !).

all my seats front and back are the same so check first that they are definatly gone.

there are several articals about suspension bits listed over the last few days.

    some stateside for replacement bits.

i have just ordered up a couple of small bits from sewells in texas, so we shall see how they go.

as for abs sensor, sounds like you will have to either have to buy new or from breaker, same for radio.

    good luck

  16. hi guys,

ive been told that the bushes have gone on the upper suspension arm on my mark 2 ls.Phoned lexus norwich today and was told that they did not do just the bushes, what a surprise :crying: the new units will cost £314+vat each, anyone know where i can get just the bushes or of a cheaper option.

    Thanks in advance Andy

oh the part number is :48630

these people in US sell the bushes.

i expect you could find in the UK but would probably be more expensive.

i have things shipped in from the us all time, normally less than a week by standard post.

    robin..

  17. I've had my LS400 about 4 weeks now and in that time the touch screen has gone blank and therefore non-functional about 3 times. As I turn the ignition on the green 'Lexus' screen appears and then when I turn the engine over it goes blank. This is normal at this stage as once the engine has fired the screen reappears. But, as I mentioned, on three occasions the screen has remained blank.

This happened this morning so I immedaitely turned off the engine and turned it back on again. This time the engine wouldn't fire! I'm wondering whether I 'flooded' te engine? ie because I started and stop the engine so quicky there was a dump of fuel somewhere? I eventually got it started after 3/4 attempts and there was a lot of fumes from the exhaust. Its ran fine since.

    So, two questions....

    1) whats causing the touch screen to fail to come on intermittently, and....

    2) what caused the engine not to restart?

    thanks

    Al

    hi

sounds like the backlight is on the way out on the screen, these use a high freuqency to generate arround 100v. could be the light, or the individual components or something simple like a dry joint on the board, unfortunetly though these items are a not individualy replacable unless you can find a very competant repair man. lexus will want to swap the whole unit as "there fix". this will not be cheap !!

as for the engine, think you just confused it by starting & stoping so quickly, flooded or confused sensors in engine management.
