  1. I've done quite a few miles in the new LS460 since my Dad got one in January. It is a lovely car. A little noisier than my LS430 but in a "power-hum" kind of way, rather than smelly loud car.

I have a question though, when you are stopped in traffic watching a DVD the screen goes blank when you drive again.

This is a built-in safety measure so the driver does not get distracted. It is very annoying for passangers. Is there a way to remove this safety feature???

    Lexus will not do it.

:shutit: This was one of my "bug bears" with Lexus cars. My Audi's are programable on the move with or without voice control, who wants to stop in the middle of a motorway journey and re-program the sat-nav or make a phone call (through the car system)

Sorry not me. I can give commands with voice and change almost anything (hands free) on the move.

The prices as you say are much closer to the competitions. Lexus are not without there failings either.

The Alloy Wheels renouned to look S*it inside of one year, and the "soft paint" well stone chips a plenty.

10K service interval using fully synthetic Oil is franky a joke. :whistling:

Lets not forget the very poor fuel figures, I could NEVER get anyway near the quoted MPG figures in any Lexus I bought, and I nursed them.

  2. Reading this thread is an absolute roller-coaster.

    I bought a brand new IS 220d SE-L over a week ago.

It's arriving for the beginning of March.

I did a fair bit of reading before buying, but didn't find any real complaints.

This thread is a complete nest of them, though, and I'm quite worried by it.

At some points during it things looked up as people vouched for the build quality or service, but then a choir of discontented customers would retaliate with similar stories of woe.

I bought Lexus becaus of the renowned service and build quality.

    I test drove several different Lexus before buying mine - 1 GS450h, 1 IS220d sport and 2 IS220d SE-L.

I purposefully took them over uneven roads which have caused my previous cars to rattle.

I have to say that not one of them made a squeak.

I truly hope that I don't have any issues with my new purchase,

and that if I do I encounter much better responses from Lexus Brighton.

My condolences to all of you who are having trouble!

I picked up my 220d SE-L on 5th Jan. So far it's been great apart from the fuel consumption (34.3 average) and the 6th gear / low speed problem. It's early days yet of course but I'm hoping as the car loosens up mechanically (it only has 1040 miles on the clock) these things will improve. Of course I hope things don't loosen up so much that I start hearing creaks and rattles.

How would I tell when the car was actually built? It was in the showroom and available for 'immediate' delivery when I bought it, so I have no idea how old it actually is.

:tomato: I'm afraid things will not improve, 1000 Miles is enough to run these cars in. :winky:

  3. Here it is - the lighter grey strip (as it appears in the shot, running across the dash at the base of the screen).

    dsc04381wk4.jpg

In reality, it looks absolutely OK, and does not stand out at all. The piccy does not do it any justice. It is actually pretty good and I am just soooooo glad that the technician managed to do it without a full on dash out job, which he and I did not want (at the risk of installing additional rattles...).

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing, with hindsight:

    1) the car should not have been manufactured like this

    2) this and Matus's thread proves that 2 cars (one LHD and one RHD) have a similar dash problem - how many other have?

    3) Whilst I am happy it's all fixed, it is, lets face it, a slight bodge up (though it works)

    4) I could have been petulent and insisted on a complete new DASH with all the correct trimmings but who at LGB would have listened? I haven't even had an acknowledgement to my email from LGB...lets face it this was the 3 rd visit into the dealer for dash rattles - I was told it was two strikes and then Lexus techinical...still waiting on that one!

    5) Some vindication that there was a problem, and the dealer did actually do their bit to fix it

and the biggy final two...

    6) would I ever buy a Lexus again :excl::question:

    7) would I ever buy a new car at all, or one that is in it's first 18 months of production?

That final question is already answered...we just bought a pre-reg'd Nissan Note to replace the Honda Jazz.... :o and yes it does rattle a tad! And no it's a Petrol one!

PS - Matus - the rattle from behind the vents is likely to be the centre dash speaker - mine sounded like it came from behind the vents at the start, then it got worse...when you pressed the speaker cover down, the rattle stopped. Try it...just press the speaker down a little (obviously get a passenger to do it when you drive/hear it rattling) and see if it fixes it.

The cure is simple - some added insulation/padding around the speaker assembly. It only takes a few minutes.

Sorry to bump this old thread back to the top - but I had my car in for service recently and I got the Lexus bods to look at my dash rattle - I even sent a link to this thread to the rep and pointed out the fix applied to Jamboo's car. I said they should get in touch with the guys in Leicester to get the info.

When I arrived with my car they told me they had spoken to the people there and they were told that the customer had told them what to do! Anyway - they said they'd do the same. I got my car back serviced, vacced and cleaned and also with a bit of what looks like low density grey foam wedged inbetween the screen airvent and the windsceen. They also had removed and padded the speaker grille. I thought OK - lets see...

After driving the car for a while it seems that the speaker padding was unnecessary, and the low d foam is useless, and deforms the vent -making for poor airflow. Also they left greasy hand ( and head!)prints on the windsceen. Waste of bl**dy time!

So - Jamboo - can you let me know the exact type of foam used? It looks like the rubber around car doors in the photo. I want to tell Lexus exactly what to do, or if not, do it myself (my preferred option as I'm beginning to think all auto technicians are numpties!)

An aside- I got a lift back home from the garage, as they didn't have a courtesy car for me. A new Yaris. Same indicator stalks as IS! Quality.

:tsktsk: This stinks......... It's at best a "Bodge-up", get a proper job done on it,make them strip it out properly or take the F**king thing back :crybaby:

  4. Just got out of the new LS460SE_L.

Well lets be as practical as we can on this, I drove the top of the range 460SE-L £71K worth. Kept it in sport/Power mode all the time. It has 8 gears and the box is very smooth and easy to use, the car is very quiet and powerfull, I gave it some and it went well ( was quite supprised)for a heavy car kerb weight 2055Kg, 0-60 5.7 and it felt not too far off that.Boot space is reduced!!, the ride hight seems very high for a saloon!almost 4*4 like, the rear electric seats have the control units behind the rear seats in the boot! so you will struggle to get two large cases in it.The SE does not have these and may have a bit more space.

Interior layout was good, and very much better than the new "s Class" even nicer than my A8 sport and thats an admision I did not want to make. The SAT-NAV is all "touch screen" and very informative, but still will not allow you to use on the move!! , the extent of kit is massive. Driving it is a doddle.

I hope the finish on the new IS-F 500 is as good, and the performance should be miles better with more power (5 litres 425BHP) with much less weight and of course 8 speed box, I will be very keen to try one :shifty:

  5. sorry but it looks **** from behind, cant wait to test drive one tho,btw isnt a new audi comin out, which is gonna kick everytings ***** including the m3 and rs range.

Yep :D It's coming and it's going too "Kick Arse" :winky:

isnt the RS the audi range anyway ???? lol

:) It's the RS6 that is coming and it will have V10 power with 500+BHP twin turbos and "monster grunt" :winky:

  6. sorry but it looks **** from behind, cant wait to test drive one tho,btw isnt a new audi comin out, which is gonna kick everytings ***** including the m3 and rs range.

  7. Realitycheck77, that was some post:

Here in UK, ALL Lexus cars NEVER come anywhere near there supposed 0-60 figures.

The BMW 3.0i covers 0-60 in 6.0 dead in the UK.(BMW's are usually quicker than quoted)

The closest Audi is the A4 3.2 none turbo and that gives 0-60 in 6.4

The new LS460 reputed to cover 0-60 in UNDER 5.5, we tested on a track and it would NOT make 6.5 never mind 5.5

The GS 430 V8 only manages 6.1 secs too 60MPH

We do not get the 350 in the UK but I cant see it past the V8 can you?.

I hope the "f" IS is very fast, as if it is I will be very interested. :winky:

    Best regards :)

  8. I was under the strict impression it will be more powerful than both the new M3 and Audi, and it FOR SURE has more ft lbs of Torque which is very important.

 There is absolutly no chance it will be quicker :winky:

Let's not forget the 350 is qucker than it's BMW, Audi and Mercedes equvilant, and the IS-F is Lexus's first real attempt at the performance market, so again I woudn't be surprised if it's a fair bit quicker than it's rivals.

Who told you this????, which 3.5 ltr Audi/BMW could this Lexus get near?. :winky:

    NONE

  9. i think its an awesome lookin thing, and cant wait to test drive, although i dont think audi/bmw will be taken over by Lexus in the performance dept. The new M3 will have 430/440hp and is designed to cane the latest rs4 ofcourse. The new m3 is available from sep/oct this year and ofcourse a new audi will be launched to cane that.i think the is-f is a great idea, but unless it can hands down beat the new rs4,it wont even be worth producing,if their intention is to steal audi customers.the new rs4 has seen plently of traded in m3s on its behalf because the car completely rubbished the e46 m3 and so therefore it is likely that if you drive a new rs4,you were once in an m3.i dont feel many is-f drivers will be coming from previous performance cars(bmw customers normally only look at audi or porsche as alternatives).also i cant wait to hear the isf,its gonna be intoxicating.I will defo be intersted in it,but dont think it will grab everyones attention.

:excl: It will depend on two things: PRICE and PERFORMANCE.

If it is priced well under the oposition and can near equal them in grunt,it will sell well.

If like many other lexus,it stated to do THIS :winky: and then in fact does NOT then it is doomed.

  10. "F" division will not come to uk as only limited numbers are to be offered for sale, ( I have seen 500 max) sorry, and until they come up with the price and real performance figures I would hold back. They said the 460 would cover 0-60 in under 5.5 secs, at snetterton we could not manage more that 6.6 secs, which is MILES OFF.

I think you'll find F division will come to the UK, all Lexus Dealer Principals were shown the car in Portugal last year and all sales and aftersales staff were shown video of 'whats coming' which included the IS-F and the LF-A.

I've taken a deposit on one, thats how confident I am that its coming. It's awesome.

    Mcuk23

I agree the CAR is coming, but I dont think it will be produced here.

  12. If the hybrid prices are going to be in the region of 80 - 100K, at that price i'm sure people will consider the majestic S600 V12 Limo before taking a final decision. If you can afford £100K on a new car and afford to take a massive hit on depreciation, then fuel economy probably isn’t that much of an issue.

:) A very good point taken, but the price range is high and LWB 460's are in that price range also!, I can't understand these car companies, this year in particular is going to be a hard one for them and poeple are going to get another rise in interest rates this summer (predictions). I think with reduced labour costs on most newly produced cars, that the purchase price could be kept somewhat lower.

  13. no way do i want a test drive. i would end up robbing a bank in order to buy one!

GOOD POINT. MIGHT MAKE OUR LS400s SEEM SLUGGISH & NOISY.

HAVE YOU ANY EXPERIENCE OF DRIVING A GETAWAY CAR, MANEESH? MAYBE WE COULD COME TO AN ARRANGEMENT?

I can help! The way to do it is drive steadily, and look normal! (Well, that's ME out on the latter!.....?)

we launched the ls460 today, ive driven the car a few times now and turned someheads with it !!! i like the car really up to date and all the gizmo's on it is brilliant the ls460H isn't out until later on but that should be a proper flying machine if the gs450H is anything to go by !! i LOVE driving those cars !!!

:winky: Yea If you can afford 100K + it might suit, but thats "Supercar" money, and don't forget that on the recent road test of the 460 V8, it only acheived 17MPG!!!!!!! now that's POOR :winky:

  14.

I once bought a Vauxhall - an Astra Starmist in 1990, brand spankers too.

Put it this way - I have never touched a VX since! It lasted 2 months (It needed a new dash (after 5 visits for rattles!) and even the gearbox packed up after 650 miles) and I bought a Toyota Corolla - best car we ever had...6.5 years of TOTALLY trouble free motoring (72,000 miles, same brake pads, 2 sets of tyres and a new exhaust...that's it)...

VX are renowned for poor customer sat and poo quality (sorry should say poor quality)

But I believed Lexus would be fine...it is a prestige brand, so I expected good service. So far it's at least as good as Audi/VAG, but the build quality of the Lexus really cannot complete with Audi - who really are top notch.

@ Lexusjohn - how do you rate your A8s' build quality? I'd love one...

:winky: Fantastic, I had 3 new Lexus cars, 2 RX300 SE and the new GS300SE, none compare to this it's the best build quality out there. I was going to have a look at the New IS500F when it comes out, I may have second thoughts on that now though, happy new year to you all.

  15. welcome back, its been very quiet without your posts

 "blessings in disguise"..."clouds and silver lining"...take yer pick!!

I was lurking around and reading the posts...

Matus - where you've placed the white cloth is where they've put the Density foam (but all the way along). I will take a picture and post it. You can just see it, only just, but it is a good colour match, and the car is finally TOTALLY rattle free, except for the Satnav screen suround which does creak. Nothing can be done about that, however. The car is on the 2nd Satnav screen/system and it's just as bad.

I actually feel totally exonerated! I knew I wasn't "rattling" for no reason. Each test drive proved to the technician that I wasn't just whinging...The car is now crisp and tight, just what I should have had having told the dealer in january that I wanted mine fixed on the production line...something I was sort of told would happen, but never did. The rest is history!

Once again - a big thanks for all of those that have added threads, PM'd me etc - I really do mean it - THANKS

PS - Scott - buddy I do think it's your 5th Injector. The symptoms sound too familiar...the workshops are normally like a ghost town at this time of year - take it in for early diagnosis...

:tomato: Funny you should mension "Foam", I test drove (with a veiw to buy) the CLS AMG55 merc, on the drive within an hour tyhe glovebox assy fell out on the floor!!!!, I stopped and looked at it and it was "packed" behind with this foam s*it, I took it back and complained of poor build quality and they shrugged there shoulders and said "dont worry we'll stick it back". Needless to say I was off like shot. That car was £73K basic price!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :tsktsk:

  16. I hope im not tempting fate by writing this, but i have a IS250 its an 06 year.

So far all i can say is that this car is the best car i have ever driven, i have the Navigator model with all the good stuff, cant say enough about it. drives like a dream, plenty of speed and power and the interior is a really nice place to be, i recently went to Manchester and found the drive to be great.

Please i hope i havnt spoken to early.

I will however say that the Lexus guys at Leicester are useless and would be better suited to seeling burgers in burger king but i guess you cant have it all.

:o Is that a diesel?, greef thats poor, I have the 4.2TDI Sport A8 new and I get more than that on a run and it's just run-in. :shifty:
