  1. Heard a rumour that I am getting the flash wash system thing for Fathers day. - but still have the chance to direct the wife towards something else. Got a black car so unless I dry it and usaully polish it every time, it looks very streaky. So it could be good for me if it works. Anyone got one and does it stop streaks etc ? (dont get me wrong a love polishing it, but sometimes you need a quick fix)
  2. Yeh, I ignored it, but then washed the car just after a long journey, they must have been almost on fire, when the water hit the caliper the whole area around the car disappeared in steam - I was very concerned to say the least (being polite) - not being polite - I s**t myself. I went to Ayr the other week up the A76 and them some B roads, put it through its paces, did about minus 20 mpg, but it was great. great county great roads, but definately would not want to get stuck in the middle of the night with no street lights, no moon and no signal - and the possibility of Scottish werewolfs.
  3. Probably warped discs, but I had this with mine, found that when braking hard from high speeds, it juddered and "moaned". On the front calipers there are two pistons that push the pads onto the disc. On mine the top one was being pushed out when the brakes were applied, but was not sucking back a bit when I took me foot off, thus the brake was actually binding a bit, but only on the top half which caused the pad to judder against the disc, and not enough to pull. I freed it by levering it back in and pressing the peddle again and again for 20 minutes,Its been fine since. You could check this as your brake/wheel will become very hot, and on a very slight slope you will not roll and the brake will grab just a bit. It probably is warped discs though, but worth checking before you spend a load of cash.
  4. Yeah nice one, better than mine, and I have done quite a view to variuos manufacturers when I ran a fleet. Post the reply 1
  5. Last option : send a fax to : Masayori Hattori General Manager Overseas Operations Department Toyota Motor Corporation Customer relationsions Division Fax number 00 81 52 561 6236 He will advise Toyota Motor Marketing Europe, who will contact Lexus GB, who will contact you. Make sure you include all information in your fax including chassis number. Telll him you have always understood that Toyota invented Toal Quality Management program, to ensure as close to zero defects as possible, and that they are reknown for being the world leader in technological advancement, yet they are refusing to replace/repair a CD player that is well known and documented for its failure and is clearly not fit for purpose. You are dissappointed with local dealers attitude, blah blah .. would like a replacement cd, as the previous replacement only lasted .... I got a full days inspection at the local dealers cost with my fax. They never sorted the "coolant/heater whooshing noise", but you might a free cd as the local dealers don't like a kick up the a..e. Nothing to lose.
  6. I am very familiar with this problem - cuttin a very long story to the min - i crashed in july 04, had new ac, rad, water pump, timing belt plus other stuff in front of bay. its been making the water rushing sound from 3500+ revs and gear + neutral, INS co could not sort, went to lexus leeds, after a Cat, an alternator and three more visits, all on the ins co account that goodness, its still does it. Ins co force fed the coolant system with some gizmo, it was ok for 4 mile then its back. They still havn't sorted it. To bleed it you have to get the front right up aboth the top heater hose, difficult, but easy with a fork lift. Didnt make any difference. Lexus dealer clamped the top hose from heater and it stopped(in neutral) thus apparently proving its the matrix. Apparently not covered by ins co, yet it was not doing it before the crash. Bought a K+ N Filter hoping it would drown it out, but it doesn't. Only answer - turn the CD up, and worry about it when getting rid. If you do sort it , please let me know, as its caused me a lot of hassle and heart ache, I even had contact with Toyota Japan over it. I have driven 10k since and cars still ok.
  7. As i mentioned above, dealer says no. Too far over the 5year deadline :( ← Try ringing Lexus GB, tell them you know it is a common fault with the CD and now that many have been changed under warranty, tell hem you will not consider another Lexus again. They might blow you out but its worth a call or fax. Mines V reg and they changed it in 12/03. I was lucky. Goodluck
  8. I got a longer one from Motosave - £ 20 , It was the right diameter, cut it down (at the box end, then put two holes in it and fastened it with a jubilee clip. Looks as good as a real one, cheaper, but a tadge difficult to drill the holes with a hand held drill. but got there in the end.
  9. am I reading you post correctly? your spoiler has INCREASED your power and top speed? ← Perhaps I did not explain myself to well, did not mension top speed ???? I have not measured it to behonest, but it some how SEEMS to have increased acceleration maybe from 3rd up. Only thing I can measure it against is the same cars I always tangle with, and in those cases and against of IS200's, I am definately a nadge quicker, I do not know the theory of spoilers on rear wheel drive cars, maybe I should look it up and make sure I am not just dreaming, or maybe the downforce just improves the handling so it feels quicker. Who knows who really cares other than the insurance company who think it makes a difference on rear wheel drive cars. It has made a "Load of difference to the amount of knobs" wanting a go. It looks good and thats whats counts. If I had wanted a very fast car would I have bought an IS, er no lets face it they are slow. As for the wife, well she has in the past pulled the handbrake on at speed, not very amusing at the time as we were on a bend.
  10. I got mine off ebay but it has a light in it, and it was scratched though (£65 inc post), a mate at GFS AUTOS LEEDS repaired, painted and fitted it for £50. It makes a load of difference, not only in grip, for for all the knobs getting up your a**e, including other IS200's, in the past every standard IS 200 is exactly the same speed, and I mean upto the limit, but now I pull away, when wife + kids not in see photo Get one if you can.
  11. voted for IS but will be here all night trying get it infront of the audi. Reminds me of the S4 I watch dissappering in front of me most mornings. Yet I beat an RS6 .Er It was parked though, and I thought it had me for a few moments.
  12. I got a p/ex price against the same car one year younger, and 15k miles less. They wanted 5k more than they'd give for me. Nice profit for them. Bad loss for me - and they think I'll buy another. No. Not even the diesel. Next car = S4 , sorry LEX, IS looks great but - its to much fuel, to slow for the amount of fuel, and horendous deprecition. A mate got an X3 (loser) on contract hire for less than I have lost on my car. May be this is the way - get a great deal on a car that no one would want to buy. His X3 is starting to look good, and as he's an accountant he is constantly pointing out how my lex costs.
  13. Cant' believe you hve just spoilt the ending for me !!
  14. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, don't be coned into think its the retaining springs - i was , paid 30 odd quid and it storted knocking a few weeks later, i think it stopped for a bit because of the new copper grease. have a look at the springs, any one who pays £36 for these has been totally ripped off, even at Lex prices. tHEY LOOK LIKE A STRAIGHTENED PAPER CLIP. Get some pads for £20 and fit em. If you can use a spanner you can do it in a suit trousers on your dinner - like me !
  15. This has been discussed many times. Generally speaking the noise goes if you have new pads fitted, and there is copper grease on the back, this seems to stop it, it did on mine. I actually think what happens is that when your linings are low, the front calipers have two pistons in each, one above the other, and when turning with almost full lock on in a parking manouver say, I think the top one comes out a fraction slower than the bottom one, which then makes the pad catch and click in the caliper, when you are turning and manouvering you are really only just applying the brakes and so the top ones not actually out enough to brake. This is my theory, never proved it though. Change your brakes, grease em up and make sure the new pads are free and not catching inside the caliper at the top or bottom. The brakes are a doddle to change, there is an explanation in the tech pages of this site.
  16. [ i had a set of neon ones (don't laugh) could be worse - you could have had a neon exhaust trim
  17. I have locking ones, look good and have not been nicked yet, after losing several sets, including ones you can tighten with a spanner. I even nicked 'em back off some kids bike ! Only thing is, the little key, which is not an allen key, is awkward, its easier to take it off the key ring to undo them. Don't be in a rush its a faff to do - but definately worth the £5.95 plus post I eventually got them for.
  18. if it sounds like air in the coolant, and you def have no leaks, then the water pump impeller could be slightly out of tolerance causing aeriation ( bestway to decribe is like a spinning ships propellor under water causes airbubbles due to friction heating the immediate water around the propellor) the waterpump impellor blade angle is carefully designed to prevent this, but it is possible that yours may be slightly out. However it is a lot of hassle to replace it just to see if it cures it. ← Thanks - whilst I can put up with it and have for 10 months, there would be little chance to sell it with the noise, unless they trest drive it without going over 3500 revs. which lets face it is fairly unlikely. The water pump was replaced as part of the insurance repair so may be they will change it foc.
  19. Has anybody got a clue about this - its been going on for almost a year - and I have nearly succummed to buy a BMW - HELP me before I become another BMW winner (edited now i have one :winky: ) !!............... Bumped car in July last year - fairly minor, but had new rad, water pump took a hit -had new, plus other bits at the front. Cars makes a noise over 3500 revs - in any gear and neutral stood still. Insurance co and Lexus Leeds can not sort it, and I think they are avoiding my calls. We have all tried bleeding it ( I tried it - didn't work - great photo though front 2 foot in air - I'll post it when its sorted). Ins co bled the system, with some gizmo that actually forced coolant through, rather than just jacking it 2feet at the front to bleed. This worked for four miles, now its as bad as ever, It has a similar sound to NOS on Need for Speed Underground. But unfortunately to me sounds terrible. Lexus Leeds clamped the top heater hose and the noise went (although only tested when stationery) So we at least know its coolant now -- oh thats after a new cat and a new alternator - thank g at the ins co expense. Any ideas - or things to try/test ????????
  20. i had same problem, it really p***d me off for ages. Garage (not lex) said the pads springs were missing, Charged £ 37 - yes £ 37 for them + fitting. I had not had it long and did not know what they were. Anyway it stop for a bit and came back. Changed brake pads my self about 3 months ago , and when I saw the springs the words "robbin b*****ds came to mind. Never heard it since. But I think its just a case a copper grease on the back. Just grease the back of the pad and the shims - the instructions to change pads are in the technical part of this website - its incredibly easy. Minor set back today (nothing to do with clanking brakes) more like glowing brakes : Unfortunately, when washing the mud off this morning after sons football game, could not see front wheel for steam. Top piston in caliper not pulling/sucking back when pedal released. Seems OK now after 20 minutes of pedal pressing and pushing it back in
  21. Confirmed - air in the heater core. The dealer bled the coolant lines. Took several days to rectify in my case. They usually jack up one end of the car to remove the air pockets. However, since the car is lowered they were unable to jack it high enough, so it took longer. Dealer asked me to check it over the next few days just to ensure it's all clear :D You will notice the blurbling sound just as you start the car and/or while accelerating. ← Still got my problem (see later post 8.1.05), but I now know it is the heater matrix, although Lexus Leeds say it is debris from the crash got into the matrix. When pipe clamped no noise. Is this a thick question, but to bleed the system - how exactly is that done ? Presumably jacked up the front end ?
  22. Don't know about GS, but in my IS handbook the wattage is same as dipped beam, so at least IS's don't dazzle anyone. That said I only use em when need to speed, oh yeh and when foggy as well. So thats all the time really. Er sorry.
  23. Ring Genore at Briggate Garage Hunslet - he might know - he told me someone a year or so ago. This guy is best body work man in Leeds. Tell him Richard says hello
  24. I searched every where for one, as Lexus was £ 44. In the end I went to Motosave, I suppose you have these in London. Got a longer one, cut it doen to right length, put to 2 square(ish) holes in it at the back end and fastened it with a jubille clip - total cost £ 20 + £ 0.99, Bargain - its tough to cut with a hack saw though, but it looks great - as good as a lexus one. :D
