  1. I have now loaded my music onto another 64Gb drive that I formatted to ex fat. Still no joy, so I will now cease trying - I think 😉
  2. Previous to my new NX I owned a hybrid Hyundai Tucson. The battery system was similar to the Lexus, except that the 12V battery was a small lithium polymer battery, both in size and capacity. That system used to give depleted battery problems also, in that when the battery was running low on charge when parked, the system would cut power to certain functions and settings which would need resetting when the car was next started. It was somewhat aggravating to start with, but as owners became used to it and realised it was normal for the hybrid version, we adapted to the system. Some owners did however manage to deplete the 12V battery to the point where manual entry to the car was necessary. In the Tucson (and the Ioniq) a reset button on the dash was provided to get enough charge into the 12V battery from the traction battery to be able to start the car (I can't understand why Lexus haven't done similar). I had to reset certain parameters on numerous occasions and although I never suffered a completely flat battery, I was bothered that I might as I do leave my car unused for 3 - 4 weeks at a time. And so to my point (apologies folks, I can't do things in shorthand) and I don't really expect people to follow my example. This is for info, whether anyone wants to do it is their choice. The anti theft alarm on the Tucson was abysmal and hardly anyone takes notice of them nowadays anyway. As you probably already know, the interior alarm system is still using battery power when the car is switched off, so I used to turn off the interior alarm when I was away from home for a while. Whilst not directly comparable to the Lexus as the 12V batteries are different, by using this method I was able to open and start my car after it had been left unused for 4 weeks. Some people wouldn't want to turn off their alarm like this, but as the Tucson alarm was weak and didn't last that long I thought was worth the gamble and I did/do use a Stoplock, plus some other antitheft measures. Here's a minor rant; Manufacturers and dealers of cars should be made by law to inform the buying public that their car could be prone to these problems, the same as they may well suffer blocked GPF problems if they constantly use their cars for short journeys.
  3. I'll give it another go if it ever stops raining 😒
  4. No rush and I would appreciate it. I contacted my dealer today, who confirm that there is a fusebox in the passennger footwell as you say, so I cannot understand why I can't see it !!
  5. Thanks for your help guys but I've given up on this now - too many hoops to jump through and since I hardly ever listen to music in the car now, it isn't worth the trouble. I did offload the music onto the computer and did a normal format first, but reloading the music was at a snails pace, so I gave up. Maybe I'll revisit this one day when I'm bored.
  6. Apologies if the above post is a bit garbled. Not sure if it's my fault or my laptop, however I expect you get the gist.
  7. I'd assume the same, but Lexus and Toyota have been prone to theft in recent years, so I wouldn't discount it.
  8. Maybe a bit of useless info, but I've been a bit obsessed with car security since since I bought my last car, a stealable, black Hyundai Tucson. On that car the the key fobs went to sleep after a few minutes of lack of movement and stopped sending signals to the car, thereby preventing relay theft. I don't know exactly how long it is before the fob goes to sleep, but I left my fob undisturbed for 7 mins which was long enough. I asked the sales person when I picked up my car on Friday if my fobs did the same, but he didn't know, so today I experimented and the answer is yes yes they do - I'd have been disappointed if they didn't in this day and age. Yes I know there's a way to disable keyless entry via the fob and this applies to my car and so I can't speak for other years and models, but I'd like to think that any model coming out of the factory recently will have the same feature. I don't rely solely on this feature and keep my fobs in a Faraday box and generally use a Stoplock as well, but it's good to know that my fobs have this feature.
  9. Thankyou Colin, that's very informative. I'll give this some thought before attempting it as I don't listen to music in the car much nowadays. You might wonder why I'm bothering, but it will represent a challenge in my quieter moments, so thanks again.
  10. Tried another memory stick of 8 GB and it works, so no idea at present why the other one won't work ! 😔
  11. I haven't had much opportunity to test it yet, but I did ask it to take me to a nearby town today and it did and it rang my wifes phone when asked. The system doesn't seem as good as my previous car, which is mildly disappointing, but I'll get used to it.
  12. Well I've just been back in there with a torch and I cannot see it. A Google search says it's in the drivers side footwell, but I think that's for the LHD market. For the moment at least I've wired it in using the OBD port which was less than a 10 minute job. Trouble is, there's no light on the plug to indicate whether it's switched off or not. If you get the time is there any chance you could take a pic of where the fuses are ? Thing is, even if they are located behind the glove box there's no room to work in there. There is a fuse box under the bonnet, so I wonder if it's been relocated on the latest models?
  13. I don't know why you assume it's an 8GB drive, it's actually a 64 GB drive and holds pretty much my whole music collection. I haven't read through much of the manual yet, maybe 64GB is too big to handle ?
  14. Thanks guys, all good info. Having used this OBD lead in another car, I'm aware of the possibilty of battery flattening, although I managed to mitigate that then. As said, if battery level drops the plud should switch itself off - but will it ?? Dash cams use a surprising amount of battery charge when car is switched off, as I learned during lockdown. I even plugged the cam into a power pack instead, but that got drained pretty quick as well Dash cams have either a very small internal battery or a capacitor, niether of which will power a cam for long. Thay are designed to just finish recording whatever was happening when power to the cam was switched off. Amit; I did look behind the glove box yesterday and didn't spot a fusebox. Probably me being dopey, I'll have another look later. If I find it, a hardwire kit into it will be the best way to go.
  15. Thanks Andy, I am plugged into the USB A but when I get to SOURCE, it's not highlighted so I can't access anything🥲
  16. Many thanks for trying to help Amit. There are many things in play in my case. I have always managed to self install my own dash cams and I'm certainly not paying dealer prices to have it done and I don't have a dealer nearby. The Nextbase kit you linked to can be had for £7 elsewhere and yes, the cable is routed behind the headlining and down the A pillar. I had seen the install link you added, but as yet I haven't found a fusebox inside the car and I'm not prepared to find a way through the bulkhead to the box in the engine bay. Also, I'm not prepared to mess about with the electrics in a car that has a canbus system, although, if it's the only way I might use a local auto electrician, but I'm pretty confidant I can use the OBD port. Also, that link is American and I've found to my cost in the past to take with a pinch of salt any advice that comes from people who work on cars that weren't produced for the UK market. Whilst the same car in other countries may look the same, very often there's differences under the skin. Some might say, why am I quibbling about costs when I've just bought a 50 grand car ? WelI, I have a credo that says "perceived value for money" i.e. if a product doesn't represent value for money in my head, I'll look for better value elsewhere.
  17. Hi Jim and thankyou for your advice. Just a few minutes ago I wrote and posted this in my introduction thread. Another part of this is that I'm awful at learning from reading, I just coudn't swot for exams at school, which is why I was asked to leave at age 15. I can learn things from reading, but usually I learn fro poking about and repetition - I'll get there in the end. Perhaps I should have written this in my introduction, but it does involve baring ones soul a little, which I'm not prone to usually, But it's my hope that I will keep my Lexus for a while, so I'll be involved in this forum as a matter of course. Very late in my life I discovered that I have Aspergers (a form of autism). Apart from it being a lightbulb moment, it means that my brain has different wiring to the majority of folks, a part of which means that I can be very blunt and forthright e.g. I don't suffer fools easily and can appear rude. It could be construed that I shouldn't be on a public forum, but I have a need to ask questions like anyone else and I feel (and have proven in the past) that I often have a helpful input in this situation. This is not an excuse for rudeness, but it is a reason and so I apologise in advance if I upset anyone. I'd like to say it's not intentional, but sometimes it is because there are people on the planet who shouldn't be allowed out without a carer. Feel free to tell me take a hike if this is inappropriate and thankyou for the welcomes, help and advice so far.👍

  19. I'm being naughty here as I only picked up my car yesterday and haven't had a full chance to peruse the manual, but. In which USB port does a music memory stick plug into, A or C and once there where do I go in the infotainment screen to find the files that are on it ? I've been having a play around with settings today, but I couldn't find how to do this. It's early days but i'm not finding the Lexus system as intuitive as my previous Hyundai. As a for instance; during my playing about I found a way to change the style of the main dashboard, but I'm blowed if I could find it again later on !!
  20. I have one like this, in fact it might be the same one OBD Power Cable for Dash Cam Mini USB Power Adapter Charger Cable 24 Hours Surveillance for Dash Camera GPS DVR: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo The feed from an OBD port is permanently live, but there is an on/off switch on the unit to cut the power to your appliance. I see no reason it won't work with a sat nav, in fact the blurb says it will, so have a look yourself at this one and others to check it's compatible. P.S. Check out the position of your OBD port before ordering. When I used it before it was just a little obtrusive and in my last car it wouldn't have worked as the OBD port was behind a removable cover, although I could've left the cover off, but then it might have been prone to getting knocked with my feet or legs.
  21. Hold hard there troops, I think I've solved my own dilemma. I had a similar situation in the car before last that I owned, so I bought a cable that plugged into the OBD port and I kept it I've remembered. So as long as it's long enough I'll use that and if not I'll get a longer one.
