  1. Funilly enough, the detailer I used is in the process of investing in the kit for dry Ice blasting. Definitely something to consider next year. When I enquired about the cost he wasn't sure but gave a ball park of around £700-1,000 which i don't see as a great expense if it keeps the car in the road for another 30 years with some new underseal
  2. Yeah they've done a great job on the arches, I did notice some rust in there. Doesn't look to bad but will definitely be keeping a close eye on it. Looks like it's almost designed to hold crap like a cradle
  3. In preparation for the Scottish winter I've had the car in to a local detailer who cleaned the undercarriage and sealed with Lanoguard. Quite impressed with how the car cleaned up for being 26 years old. Probably down to it spending most of its life in London. Hopefully it'll stay that way for many years to come.
  4. Hijacking this post to see if anyone might have the knowledge/experience I need to diagnose an issue I've started to experience. Only had my LS400 for 3 weeks but I've already had over 2,000 miles in it! Took a dent to the wallet in fuel but smiles all around. However, I have noticed that the car seems to wander slightly even at low speeds. I've had the car jacked up and looked for play in all 4 weeks 12-6, 9-3 position trying to move it and nothing obvious. I have noticed though that I seem to have a bit of play in the steering, I would say 1-2degree of steering where nothing happens at the wheels which I'm suspecting is my issue. Only seems to be when the wheel is in the centre position leading me to believe it's wear in the pinion/rack gear itself? I've confirmed no play in the actual steering column at least from the steering until the column enters the floor near the pedals. I've had the car 4 wheel aligned using a hunter system. It was spot on after this for about a week. Anyone experiences anything similar? I suspect the car is mostly original in terms of suspension as it's relatively low milage at 90k.
  5. I took the car out a run today up to Glencoe, Oban, down to Crinan, Lochgilphead, Inverary and then home, a good 230 miles. Absolutely love this car. Have managed to put 1,600 miles onto the odometer since I got it on 26 October. I decided to "exercise" the aerial by forcing it slightly up and down, gave it a good clean and put a bit of lubricant on it and it's absolutely fine now! so that is a result 😁.
  6. Thanks all. Picked it up from a dealer in Middlesbrough last Saturday. Nice people. Car has just over 89,000 miles on it at present, has at least 23 Lexus stamps in the service book, not bad for 26 years old and will probably continue with Lexus myself just for the history. New cambelt / tensioners last year with receipt - no waterpump mentioned however. Judging by the service stamps it's lived most of it's life in the London area. Looks not bad underneath rust wise, all arches in good nick. I plan on taking it to get treated with Lanoguard as I live on the outskirts of Glasgow and enjoy a odd drive up into the highlands in the winter. The roads can get very salty up here 🙂. Has the satnav (not sure if these were standard in 97-00?) but can't imagine ever using it. Purchase a CD burner for my laptop which came today and have enjoyed some nostalgia burning some CD's for the cd changer which I enjoyed on a drive up to Dundee to pick up my other half's new car 🙂. Cars ariel does not go all the way down and the headlight washers don't work. The low fluid light is on and I've been told by a fellow owner that the headlight washers don't work when it's illuminated, so he reckons the sensor in reservoir must be stuck at bottom. First two DIY issues to resolve already on the list 🙂 .
  7. Hello Thought I would introduce myself and my new car. Wanted one of these for ages and so happy with it so far (had it a week and already done over 800 miles just enjoying it). Unfortunately, I have a puncture at present otherwise I would probably still be driving! 😛 Patrick
