  1. I've always wanted to be able to manually override an error with the press of a button. The only one that works is the one that switches it off altogether ! Alan
  2. I was too busy to shop around and have just renewed with General Accident. Fully comp, NCD protected wife and me to drive, 11 years NCB, social pleasure only and a total £650 excess. Car is 69 plate Takumi. Paid £343 but promised myself to do a bit more checking next year. Tesco Bank sounded very reasonable if the cover is good. Alan
  3. How awful for you Barry. I hope this all gets settled and you are exonerated. Just shows what people are like but your insurance company must be able to see from the damage that the other party is at fault and that you are completely innocent. Alan
  4. Sorry as well Barry. I remember the problems you had last time. Can't see the other party having a leg to stand on - unless they try to prove you were driving sideways at them ! Alan
  5. I'd remembered the post Herbie but not the detail. I ought to have known it was you. I thought you'd cabled from the battery itself. What you did was ingenious and Lexus ought to have incorporated your design into the 4RX. It was sunny and warm yesterday but getting at the jump start posts on a freezing or wet day would be quite another matter. Alan
  6. I had a dummy run today to see how I'd release the rear seats to get at the battery. Mine is the Takumi and the only way to drop the rear seats is via 12 volt power. No mechanical release available. I was going to ask Herbie the name of the thread he did on having a wire from the battery into the cabin. Then I remembered there's a 12 volt terminal in the fuse box under the bonnet. Could this be used to charge the battery or deliver emergency power to get into ready mode ? Alan
  7. I'm a bit stunned by this. If Herbie gets locked out then what chance do we stand ! I thought there was a a release lever in the petrol filler cap but was getting confused with my washing machine. Didn't someone connect a set of leads to access from the cabin ? What do Lexus do to open the boot ? Can't you apply 12 volts to the OBD socket ? My battery was over 14 years old on my beloved RX300 and this thing fails after 4 years ! I'm heading over to the Austin website to see if the latest A40 is due soon or maybe the latest Morris Minor.
  8. HUD is excellent - when I can see it ! My flip up polarised sunglasses eliminate the display entirely. I had no idea that the screen is special to avoid blurring. Does this mean a replacement has to be from Lexus ?
  9. I had a Mercedes GLC for 24 hours a while back. I couldn't wait to take it back. An enduring memory of hitting the back of my leg trying to get out of the thing. They said I could pay to have them taken off !!
  10. Sounds awful. No wonder you're taking it back. Wonder why they never noticed that on those reassuring, totally comprehensive Lexus checks ! ?
  11. When my 4RX decides the batteries need charging it spins the engine between 1,500 & 2,000 rpm. This is usually when I'm stationary and is quite noisy and I can feel a kind of grinding vibration. I don't like it but I've lived with it for 4 + years. I've read that the new engine is nowhere near as smooth as the original V6 but does give me more miles per gallon. I'm amazed at the mpg of the 4RX but regret the vibrations. The worst vibration happens at just over 1,000 rpm but only occurs when the car is hot. Seems strange to me that the first mile or so on a cold morning there's no vibration at all. Smooth as silk. Then something warms up and off it starts. I have to knock the gearbox out of D to increase the revs and the vibe goes. As you spin the engine up the rev range then the thing is like a red hot knife going through butter. So smooth !
  12. I had a 17 plate Premier and now a 69 plate takumi, neither has/had an OFF switch on the light stalk.
  13. At least you can turn this auto function off. There is no OFF on the lights. Just going under a bridge and on come the dipped beams. I've seen this nearly cause an accident ( guy thought driver was flashing him to come ). I try and remember to turn to side lights at a bridge and then back to Auto to stop the main beam LED's coming on. If only they'd kept the OFF switch.
  14. I asked because I thought it was an important safety issue and I know the spare wasn't removed at first service. I also know it wasn't removed at second service despite mentioning it. The pressure cannot be checked without removing the wheel. That's the best part of £750 for very little work on 2 services. Ah well, it says to expect Amazing. I am certainly amazed. Alan
  15. Thanks for the replies about the Gold membership. Does anyone have any views on the spare wheel part of the question ? Is it checked at service or just left for the customer to do ?
  16. Have Lexus dealers stopped giving GOLD members a discount on annual service costs ? Also, does anyone know if the space saver spare wheel's tyre pressure is checked at service ?
  17. I worked on Sunblest bread vans during the summer holidays as soon as I passed my test. There I saw drivers double de clutching without touching the clutch pedal at all. They were able to sense the exact speed etc when the lever just jumped almost on its own. I did manage to do it but mine were much more clumsy. As soon as I bought my own cars the novelty seemed to wear off !
  18. On the subject of children : If I had my time again I wouldn't have any children. I'd only have the grandchildren !
  19. Are you referring to the kind you grow ? Or the kind that sit round tables deciding our future ?
  20. Thanks Mike. I'll have a look at that. Also just had a nice letter from the DVLA come today. Seems I've got to pay them lots of money as well !
  21. Exactly the same here but I'm a few miles behind you. I wonder what the full service costs these days ?
  22. A good few years ago there was a guy on here named Chris - someone will remember his full name. He did AMAZING things to his RX and posted lots about it. Then his rear subframe failed the MoT. He was unable to fix that and then we never heard from him again. Maybe a search might take you to his posts ?
  23. Same as mine. Glad it's only on RHS as I would have to use both hands on the trim to stop the rattles/squeaks !
  24. I have exactly the same and find it annoying too. I currently have small credit cards jammed in by the pillar by the screen and a long black shoe lace pushed in all the way to the front. In the recent heat it was squiggling just as bad. Hardly a squeak out of my '05 RX300 over 14 years.
