  1. Hi all Looking to get a Ghost 2 fitted to our NX300h. Can anyone recommend a good reliable installer for the East Midlands? Thanks Jim
  2. Was that specific Lexus advice, or jumping 12v in general? I just had a look at the Noco instructions and it does say you can connect to the chassis or the negative terminal. The leads would be long enough to find a suitable connecting point if necessary.
  3. Hopefully down your way days like that will be very much the exception to the rule. We’re in the Midlands and it is generally mild here, as you mentioned wet grip and water clearing properties are probably more relevant. I popped into our local dealer, who wanted about £900 to fit 4 Cross Climates. They want £1400 to fit a tow bar too. I’m just sitting on the tow bar install for now. Wanted a dealer to do it really but that’s a lot to stomach. I was thinking £1000 tops…..
  4. Something like Stepppy recommends above will do the job. I have one from Aldi which I suspect is a rebranded version of Stepppy’s as the display screen is identical. I used that overnight in the garage once I’d jumped my 300e to get the battery back to a full charge and balanced. If not using the car for a while I would put it on again, once full it will just sit and occasionally condition the battery, it’s designed to be left attached. I used mine on our Kia EV and our Honda during the pandemic when the cars were often not used for weeks and weeks. About once a month I would put them on a float charge and never ran into any issues. One of these, plus the Noco, covers you with prevention and if the worst happens cure. No need to worry about the 12v letting you down then 👍
  5. I have a Noco Boost GB40. It fits in the glovebox. I can confirm it jumps a totally dead 300e. You just connect it to the positive and negative terminals on the 12v battery. Turn it on. Press the boost button if the 12v is too dead for the Noco to detect (I had to do that). Start the car. Then with the car still on, turn off the Noco, then disconnect. NB positive first, then negative when connecting. Negative first, then positive when disconnecting.
  6. Hi all My NX should be coming this week, and it has the Yokohama BluEarth tyres that are stock Lexus fit. I tend to fit Michelin Cross Climates to my cars, and so intent to do so again here. I note that as well as better wet performance, the Cross Climates are B rated for efficiency vs D for the Yokohama’s. Has anyone switched between these tyres and noticed an improvement / reduction in mpg? Thanks Jim
  7. Hi Andy Like you I have just purchased a late example of the 300h, and am also a double Lexus owner as we bought a UX300e a few months ago. I did know about the Canbus attacks prior to purchase, and figured that at home at night is when our cars are most vulnerable, and so have been garaging the UX. My garage clearing skills do not amount to getting another car in the garage, it was already an impressive feat to make room for one but with a trailer and other stuff it’s not possible to get the NX in too. Just taken delivery of a Disklok which will not stop the determined thief but should deter the average chancer. We are in a quiet village and I noted that in the next street there are two NX’s, one of which has been there for years. Hopefully we are low risk. I am also fortunate to be able to park next to the garage keeping the passenger side front wheel arch inaccessible. When I purchased the NX I asked Lexus about CAT theft, and they assured me the NX and UX were not vulnerable to this. She told me that the CT was highly vulnerable to it and they kept all their CT’s locked away at weekends. She actually then volunteered the canbus theft issue, going on to say only the RX was being taken. For the sake of £500 a Ghost 2 immobiliser might be a cheaper and quicker fix than taking the fight to Lexus. Yes the wheel arch may get damaged but the car can’t be taken then and that gives a certain peace of mind.
  8. It may be under the car setting menu (top icon in your photo) rather than that one, possibly even in the display settings. Apologies for not being precise but it will be in there, just not in the car today to check it.
  9. I have a 21 Takumi 300e too, you can adjust the treble, mid and bass balance for the ML, and centre the sound in the car. You can also turn on and off surround sound. It’s all in the audio settings, from the Menu button on the touch pad. You also have to use the touch pad buttons to make the adjustments. Mine is set with the “dot” to the middle of the rear foot well. Sounds better than the default placement.
  10. Thanks both, much appreciated I’ll get the order in 👍
  11. Alternatively, I’d be grateful if someone could measure the diameter of their NX300h’s steering wheel which I can then check against the Disklok size guide.
  12. Hi all and Happy New Year Thanks to help on this group we’ve established that our UX would require the small Disklok. Does anyone have one on their NX? Wondering if this also requires the small size. Hoping to order one for when the car arrives next week. It’s an Nx300h not the new shape. Thanks Jim
  13. Thanks Dave. We had an FRV in the past with the 2.2 CRDi in it, it certainly had a lot more low down torque than our petrol CRV has. Hopefully, if the NX performs more like the FRV did with the same engine as your CRV, it will be an improvement on what we have now 👍
  14. My car history is not exotic, but shows a consistent trend of buying for reliability and practicality, our current cars are a treat after always buying for affordability or to ferry kids! Nissan Micra Toyota Yaris Toyota Corolla Honda FRV and Honda Jazz Another FRV and another Jazz Toyota Prius Honda CRV Nissan Leaf Kia Soul EV Now UX EV and NX (coming next week)
  15. I would have likely done the deal had they moved £300-400 on either the NX, the part ex or some accessories. Was a good shout above about trying some complimentary servicing, that was going to be my next tack, but they’ve ended up doing me a big favour in the end. Too greedy. I’ll be dealing with the service and parts staff from now on and they are great in there, they’ve already sorted me out for some bits for our UX (extras not issues)
  16. This one is a Premium Sport so definitely the AWD version so hopefully we are all good
  17. I’ve literally just got back from buying one from another dealer instead. £2000 less for a year newer car, 10,000 less miles, better condition, and identical exterior colour and interior trim! FSH. They also gave me more for my part ex than Lexus offered. I had initially skipped it thinking the VED would tip £40,000 being a year newer but the dealer checked on Gov.uk and confirmed £170. I will ring Lexus on Tuesday when they are back open to politely explain that I’ve gone elsewhere.
  18. Thanks that’s really useful to know thank you. I will stick to dealer fit in that case 👍
  19. Because it’s not turbocharged it’s pretty gutless on hills. Tows the trailer nicely enough on the flat but big hills require care and when people are filtering on to the motorway I always have to back off as there is so little instant shove to blend in the best way. It’s been bulletproof in my 9 years with it, which I suspect a diesel would not have been, so it’s been all in all one of the best cars we’ve had and kept the longest.
  20. Hi all About to pull the trigger on an NX300h. How well would it tow the below trailer please? We currently have a 2.0 normally aspirated petrol Honda CRV and it tows it ok, but on hills it’s not great, especially the A30 to Cornwall. With the bikes especially due to the extra drag. Think the NX would fare any better? There is also the possibility of a small caravan in future. I really doubt the Honda would do well there. Also, the NX does not have a tow bar, and Lexus main dealer want £900-£100 to fit a detachable 13 pin. Think it’s best to have them fit it, or just use an independent Witter fitter? The dealer mentioned warranty implications but I can’t see that? The dealer is playing very hard ball, will not knock a penny off the list price of the car, and will not throw in boot liner / mats etc. Trying to find something they will negotiate on 😂 Thanks Jim
  21. Likely very true Paul, I won’t hold my breath, but worth feeding back in the hope someone listens….
  22. Fantastic, thank you
  23. Hi all Does anyone know a way to view old NX brochures from previous years please? I think I have narrowed my search down to a specific model, the Premium Sport from 2020-2021. This has the white cabin accents I’m after, but with a few more features than earlier sport models from 2018-2019. It would be handy to see the full specs for those model years, and also which exterior colours were offered. Thanks Jim
  24. Good question. I wonder if this is a case of Toyota testing the updates out first on the BZ before applying them to the RZ? You’d think they’d want to get them on the Lexus ASAP. I saw the BZ update also added some useful things like showing the SOC as a percentage on the screen. The UX is still missing that. I hope the UX doesn’t become the poor relation and not get the benefit of updates applied to the RZ and BZ.
  25. Does the RZ have a heat pump for the heating? I know the BZ4X does. That certainly helps with winter range. Our Soul EV had a heat pump and the difference between winter and summer range was only about 25-30 miles. With the Lexus I can see this being more like 50-60 miles. I suspect that the charging issues could be improved with software updates. I suspect that Lexus, being pretty new to full EV’s, have gone super conservative on the battery management and charging curve. My hope is that as they gain real data on how the batteries perform, they may relax the parameters and let the batteries charge harder for longer, and may also release some of the unusable buffer to give access to more range. Certainly the UX has a 9kWh buffer as well as the 45kWh that are useable. I would hope they could unlock another 4-5 kWh to us. I had a chat with the service dept at our dealer and he said they are being conservative with the servicing too, for example changing coolant, brake fluid etc every year, until they learn the optimum intervals. He said they are knowingly over servicing them. Again this is their conservative approach prioritising reliability over everything else. No criticism with that philosophy, just a shame they didn’t do all this 10 years ago when the likes of Nissan and Kia etc were. I have already emailed Lexus UK with some suggestions for the UX, and was surprised to receive a reply that they agreed with them and had forwarded them to their app developers and software teams. Great that they are listening, but a shame they need input from someone who has had the car for a few weeks rather than coming up with them in the first place
