most certainly not  ......  only the Bentleys around here and you don't have to be rich to buy one, just a bit mad and have lots of dosh for maintenance and petrol at 8 mpg maybe 🤣

    Malc

Yes I would agree. You don't need to be rich to buy a Bentley. Running the damn thing is another matter and the 8mpg, well that is the last of ypur concerns

Following RCF's video above,I was parked in the local supermarket car park a few months ago.A guy pulled up near me in a F430,got out and had great difficulty getting the car to lock from his key fob. After a short while he started swearing at it and eventually it locked. As he walked past me,I suggested he learned to swear in Italian and the car may understand him.

Some people have no sense of humour as he stomped off in disgust.(He was wearing a Richard Mille watch which,if genuine, was worth more than his car).

Yes it is true some people are arrogant and think they are better than others just because they own a flashy car.

I regular have people looking at my other car (Bentley) I have had father's with kids and happily invited them to take pictures sat in the car and some of them have been surprised (don't know why).

Also I believe true rich people don't show off

  3. I think if you can afford to buy the Ferrari, then  set aside money not just for maintenance and wear and tear, but other issues.

I don't think mpg is a factor, but depreciation maybe.

Parking - these cars are wide, also not forgetting how low they are, speed bumps  are a no go.

Nor trying to put you off, but possibly most ferrari drivers only drive their cars in the dry and in spring & summer, so not an all year round car.

So it comes down to.. is the Ferrari special and makes you feel good and if answer is yes, go for it and enjoy... Something that most of us can only dream of.

I loves it, i really do, every micro piece of dust be gone I say, and never darken my sill again! I literally wash, polish after every trip. Even to the shop down the road.

Unfortunately as I rack up my biblical three score and ten I can't really convince my knees , hands ,back (I could keep going), that the joy goes further than the neurons between my ears.

Excellent and well done for persevering.

I have all the kit, the brushes, clay bars waxes polishes. But love using my hands rather than the polisher I have.

After a hard day working in IT (yeah right!!) I love cleaning and weather permitting washing and polishing my car.

I have owned over 50 cars (never made a profit) so am a creature of habit, it has been said more than once by my wife I love my car more than her....oops.

Mate, you really cannot know how happy I am to have not just a SC 430 ,but this particular one. Every time I read a new owner fixing something ,or other on their new toy I go how lucky am I , buy , drive and only a new battery required which I had been informed about beforehand. There really is no substitute for buying from a real, straight up enthusiast who has not been afraid to spend the money to do the necessary. Save me from one's that basically cannot really afford to run what they bought, because for sure as a buyer you will end up paying for everything they did not do.

Excellent. I understand really, I have had my LS600hl  for 3 months and was determined to see faults, nope. A 13 year old car and everything works.

The Bentley is a money pit just spent £300 on a new Battery, list goes on an on. The previous also spent money on the car including £1600 for major service. The only good bit is if you run these cars daily then they are more reliable.

You make that sound expensive, Niaz.  😊

But to be fair, you do get two 200ml tubs of carnuba wax, a nicely rolled bit of paper tied with a red ribbon, and an acrylic case with an engraved 900 silver plaque.

Unfortunatly, it doesn’t quite stretch to an applicator or polishing cloth.

    https://swissvax.co.uk/collections/autowachs/products/divine-carnauba-wachs-62-vol

For people who do these things on the cheap, SWISSVAX does offer a single tub of Carnuba Wax at the everyday price of £1400.

    https://swissvax.co.uk/products/carat-81-vol-carnaubawachs-mit-ptfe

Makes a few days of professional Detailing with ceramic products look like quite a bargain!

Oh, the one I was referring too was possibly more than £5k and came in a special wood box, going back 15 years or so.

    It was for Concours cars.

I think this issue is like many other of a similar nature. For example, you just won a property worth a couple of million in a lottery. For many they will sell within a year ,because they don't have the income to maintain it.  In other words 'buying' it is where it starts. You might for some reason have the capital (may be a relative died leaving you a wedge), but if you don't have a commensurate amount of income you should just move on.

Before I bought the SC 430 I looked at some Maserati of a similar age. Took  almost no time to work out the maintenance costs were going to be beyond what I wanted to spend on this particular indulgence. Guess it's an Italian thing , great flair, shame about the practical aspects of owning the flair. Hence, long live Lexus !

Buying the  Lexus over an Italian exotic car? Lexus is the right choice. Just imagine days of grief trying to run around for parts etc. I bet you are smiling eveyday with the Lexus

I would take the Bentley any time against a Ferrari. Maybe I appreciate the finer things and comfort as I get older.☺️

I like the Bentley Interior and design, but it's a big (slightly fast) barge and not a supercar which the Ferrari is.

However, if you want to go in any weather to Europe and back ( and afford huge fuel cost) then I would say the Bentley anytime.

People say its not the money but the experience, the thrill of driving Ferrari (only around a track,a few times) for me was priceless

  9. Hello

    Interesting thread..

I have used swissvax products (swissol) and  I bought the cheaper carnauba wax for £50? Fir a small tub.

Swissvax also sell wax for over £5k for a small tub!

You can't just use the wax after cleaning drying the car  you need an application agent and then the wax, which smells beautiful and is best applied by hand.Very painstaking work.

For me it is not about a mirror or shiny finish, but the overall effort and enjoying the finished result.

Over the years there have been a few long term products like diamond bite and now ceramic coating, which are great.

But for me I just like the old fashioned but therapeutic version

  10. My thought, with a ferrari, you need a garage, a trickle charger when you are not driving it. if  you need any parts or work, it's mainly ferrari. I would budget £10k maintennace per year.

Obviously if you are getting new or a couple years old then am sure there will be some maintenance/ servicing package and warranty. But you still would need to budget min £5k for tyres, clutch etc etc.

I own a Bentley Continental GT and it is very expensive to maintain, but there are specialist garages that help. So not the same.

    In terms of fun, well...

I won’t be at all surprised …… either way. Technology moves apace and Toyota one of the best motor innovators with big budgets for all sorts of developments

I think my £125k will be safe staying in the bank 😂

    Malc

Keep that money ready. I will be your chauffeur!

Hahahaha  nope, there’s a relatively new Japan centric Toyota hydrogen power big saloon Ls type genre

I’ll be buying one when it’s proven and it can be refuelled at say a BP petrol station ….. BPs developing their hydrogen vehicle fuel capacity somewhere in the north of England …… to probably roll out to their 1200 stations around the UK …… at some time ……. for trucks anyway !

I’ll rebadge my new Toyota hydrogen car to a Ls700 if Lexus don’t beat me to it 😂

The hydrogen Mirai in the UK was Toyotas trial ….to. police forces whatever

Let’s see ……. maybe £125k will sort it for me …… a new company car for me in about 2026 maybe 🥳

A dream or it might become reality …… my simple existing  2 X Ls400s will suffice in the meantime I’m thinking ….. I’ll not stress over it for sure

    Malc

Technology moves fast my friend. Perhaps running on water or some fusion.

But then again aren't there small planes with folding wings that can drive?

Will watch out for your ls700 and hydrogen fuel stations if they get setup here up North

If it’s always the same rear passenger foot well - and you’ve eliminated the roof as a source - then I suggest checking underneath the door on that side.

it’s possible that any drain holes have been blocked by rust and water collecting in the door can’t drain out, so seeps inside past the door cards.

Another option is water seeping in via the boot - or even past the rear screen - again due to blocked drain holes.  Take out the mats and boot floor linings and check for signs of staining.

I ditto that. Drain holes first. Then look at any rubber seals. The cheapest and easiest options first.

For Christmas, I received a genuine Lexus boot liner for my NX350h. I kind-of knew about getting it anyway so it wasn't a real surprise - but an excellent and well received gift nevertheless.

I should have got one with the car in September when I collected it, but idiot me decided against the idea at the time of ordering - and regretted it ever since...!

Looks very nice and practical too.

I have my boot with two weekend bags and two black zip up delivery boxes, so I can put shopping in and no need to vacuum. Lol.

Years ago I had to replace the rear cover of one of my mirrors  - I had to remove the mirror glass from the front using brute force - If I remember correctly this only gives access to the heating and mirror adjustment side of things. - y gut feeling is you may need to remove the mirror from the door for full access - this will mean removing the door card - which is very easy on the LS430.

Thank you and that makes sense. My other car is German and to replace the glass, I did like you mentioned.

The door card should be simple 3 screws and unclip window housing and then undo the clips on the edges.

Happy to pay £100 for a secondhand one. Just not happy ascit will be exact colour match, so if can undo it and replace internals Bbrill.

Perhaps a bit of lubrication and help might get it working i.e press the fold button and push the mirror in.

From experience the mirror motors are quite robust

    Thanks definitely a good idea.

Also just wanted to know  (like most German cars)  if the mirror could be dissembled by taking out the mirror first and accessing the internals - rather than the bigger job of  taking out the door card and undoing the bolts?

As the auto fold works ok and the drivers side mirror retracts ok then I'd guess a controller malfunction if it's just that one function that doesn't work on that side. The mirror isn't getting the command to retract on locking , replacing the mirror isn't likely to fix that.

Oh, I think the cause of the issue was mechanical, so imagine the car reversing out of a garage and the wing mirror hits the wall and folds out the wrong way. I accidently did this one month ago, but the issue was there beforehand so I think I just replicated what may have happened!

Also 3 months ago when I bought the car, the drivers side mirror did not automatically retract either. However, a few weeks ago, it healed itself and the mirror now fully retracts automically, everytime...Again, I think this was mechanical as I could hear the motor working, just no movement.
