Depends on how you define artifically low. The pricing was in line with it's pricing in the USA (after taking the 20% VAT into account and currency exhange rates). I know shock! It's just most auto companies are sure they can keep fleecing British motorists with above market pricing across the board. So now Lexus have brought the ES in line with the other fleecing models.

    https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/business-dealership%2C-sales-and-marketing/uk-one-most-expensive-countries-buy-car-study-says

ES trim lines aren’t directly comparable UK vs US. The base ES hybrid 300h (US has non-hybrid models that are cheaper, due to lower government emissions requirements) starts at $44590 - this is less well specified than our Premium model - and works out at £42560 after VAT. £1000 less than the new UK ES starting price - if you add packages to make it equivalent, you’d be paying more in the USA.

  2. I’d sell the car with the stock wheels. Anything else would require (in theory) a modification to be disclosed to insurers, and premium possibly going up - so putting people off.

I had a set of OEM winter wheels & tyres for my previous Volvo - they sold for peanuts after several months. Thankfully I’d originally got a bargain from a dealership for them (basically the price of tyres) so didn’t feel too hard done by!

That is quite a price jump and pushes all grades of the ES into the luxury tax paying category.

The Premium Edition had been kept artificially low for more than two years , presumably to stay below the £40k luxury VED ceiling as long as possible - while nearly every other Lexus model has seen jumps of £4-5k, the ES Premium Edition only moved from £39.3k (plus cost of metallic paint) to £40k (with free paint!). The other ES trims kept increasing in line with other Lexus models - e.g. ES Takumi has gone from £52k to £57k in two years.

Sadly it seems Lexus UK has decided that’s no longer possible to maintain. So a large jump, yes, but really just catching up to where it should have been if not artificially kept low.

Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to get Navigation System-linked Display on a 2024 NX, it is mentioned in the handbook (if equipped - I have Takumi spec so was hoping I had everything) and I saw it on a YouTube video - it shows the turn by turn instructions from your Apple CarPlay navigation app on the dashboard and HUD.

On my NX, it works with apple CarPlay and apple Maps - the next turn (ie turn right) and distance will display in the driver display and HUD (possibly not if you have the minimal HUD view). It does not work with Google Maps on CarPlay - just apple Maps in my experience.

Dead right. Apparently Lexus think we don't deserve them and won't buy enough to warrant supplying them anyway.

Just my two pennysworth - there is no new Lexus vehicle that I find attractive now that the petrol IS is gone in the UK - Maybe go back to VOLVO but they re pulling out of non-EV cars as well. I will probably just have to keep my old fashioned ICE vehicles - lovely jubbly.

I’m afraid Volvo has also dropped all saloons and estates in the UK over the last few years - just SUVs and “crossovers” in their range here now!

Our CT200H is nearly 10 years old and we have owned it for the last seven years. It has never missed a beat and has now done over 130k miles. For the seven years we have owned the vehicle it has been insured with LV with no claims during that period. The insurance is due to renew in a month or so and, to my surprise, I have had a letter from LV to say that they will not be offering a renewal of the insurance as CT200s are the subject of high levels of claim due to theft. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it just LV?

Lexus cars, as a percentage of those on the road in the UK, were the most stolen cars in 2023. They have taken that “accolade” from Land Rover… and their insurance and theft problems are well known!

lots of Lexus models are at risk of a vulnerability that allows thieves to plug in a device, open your car doors, and drive off in less than 60 seconds. A bbc watchdog report finally promoted a response from Lexus earlier this month:

    https://mag.lexus.co.uk/lexus-uk-statement-on-vehicle-theft/?fbclid=IwAR2u1DC_0mAo4_kSpK_1FLViLNyHJq0nAKctwfXCMxQi1CwuNiGBA10yY0w_aem_ATXzc0mSafM1xX72JZyfSo-7KpoTKXtkPQjmf6ToRhjQ_4GsDaGMH6Nf5ACoFWEW2pE

given Lexus themselves have only recently shared that list, it’s unsurprising insurers have taken a blanket “no Lexus” approach to underwriting.

I think, from memory, when the 2nd generation NX arrived in the UK the base model was a snip under £40k

Yes, originally NX and NX with premium pack were just under…but I’m not sure (m)any were actually delivered before the list price increased? The VED is based on the list price the day before new car registration rather than point of order. first deliveries were due January, and by April 2022, all were listed over £40k. The NX FWD also then appeared, but, quickly also moved above 40k and so unclear if any were delivered before that.

What a surprise; call from dealer yesterday cancelling appointment to fit protection plate. Reason- they don’t exist unless you have an RX or NX. Add in the fact that the Lexus + app has not worked properly since about October 23 and my conclusion is that Lexus just do not care.

Sorry but it shouldn’t be a surprise at all… as noted in the Lexus statement, and as others have shared in this thread, only the RX has a protection plate currently. A solution for other models is being communicated to dealers at the end of April (although it seems the statement now reads “coming weeks”)… https://mag.lexus.co.uk/lexus-uk-statement-on-vehicle-theft/?fbclid=IwAR2u1DC_0mAo4_kSpK_1FLViLNyHJq0nAKctwfXCMxQi1CwuNiGBA10yY0w_aem_ATXzc0mSafM1xX72JZyfSo-7KpoTKXtkPQjmf6ToRhjQ_4GsDaGMH6Nf5ACoFWEW2pE

I know it’s not great having a vulnerable car, but Lexus was rather clear a solution wasn’t yet available.

Well the article posted by Colin states your vehicles qualifies, are you planning to show them (the dealer) the document from the Lexus UK magazine?

The list is of affected vehicles. The article is clear Lexus will be communicating with dealers about their solution at the end of April. It should have been obvious there was no solution to book in for at the present time - obvious to both Neil and his dealership…

They are a very nice car indeed. Must be by far the most sold model of a Lexus as since owning one I see so many - but they always look so good!

Not sure if you were talking about F Sport trim specifically, but in terms of the UX.. Lexus have sold approx 23k UX (hybrid & Ev) vs 34k CTs, 89k IS, 41k NX, and 61k RX in the UK. Some of those will have been scrapped by now, but, I suspect perspective may be skewed slightly in terms of what you’re noticing on the road!

The UX (hybrid & EV combined) was (just) the best selling Lexus in the UK in 2021, 2022 and 2023 - around 1 in 3 Lexus cars sold those years. However, it was only just the best selling model - the new generation NX (hybrid & plugin) was only a couple of hundred units behind the UX in each of 2022 & 2023

I don't know how you get to £2000.

I bought a space saver for my RC last year for about £270.It sits on  my boot floor and doesn't slide around. It still leaves ample space for luggage or shopping. And,no,the RC doesn't have a large boot. Was your spare gold or some exotic material?

I assume it’s for all these bits… “Raise the floor, all new panels. wheel and tyre,  jack, wheel brace, wheel nut spanner, spare wheel bolt.”

someone in the parts department was taking the p*ss.

The thing I don’t get on what is a “premium” vehicle is no hooks in the boot for hanging shopping bags from and no height adjustable boot floor so it can be completely flat with no lip or set low to maximise boot space. These are really low cost additions and competitors, including VW etc., have both. Why?

Never had these on my Audi or Volvo. Not something I consider as being necessary.

But having said that the number for sale is not disproportionate. Last year the market share for EVs was 19.7% of all new car sales. Autotrader currently has 18.8% EVs for sale out of all the 2023 cars listed.

In 2023, in the UK, only 16.5% of new cars registered were EV - in percentage terms, this was down slightly on 2022!

^^ I think it’s likely that EVs will remain ‘zero cost’ in terms of VED, but that home electricity will incur (a further) surcharge for those properties with a home charger installed. With all new build properties required to have a charged installed from new for the last 4-5 years (and some prior to that) if you’re paying the surcharge then you may as well get an EV…but who really knows at this point?!

Other than that I fully agree with your post and am in a similar situation. The initial cost, added to range anxiety and fears over depreciation mean I’m happy to wait for now.

The government has already announced that EVs will start paying car tax (existing and new) from April 2025. New EVs from April 2025 will also (again) pay the luxury car tax if list price is over £40k. We can therefore expect nearly every new EV to be paying north of £600 per year in VED, and more as this increases yearly by inflation.

    Cur666,

Thanks for your comments on AWD I will note them and if I REALLY like the LBX and choose to upgrade I will try and AWD model.

    Colin,

I had a discussion with a technical specialists and she told me that the Takumi has 5 levels of sound insulation 2 levels more than other models. So I think you are right. I was caught with a cosmetic dilemma my wife ( who will own the car ) wanted the 2 tone look, hence a premium plus design …..I felt going to a Takumi Design which was fine started to introduce a suede interior which would have been catastrophic for Grandchildren duties. Sigh….such are the challenges of life !

Remember that there are different special order seat options on the price list… perhaps possible to have the grade you want with seating trim you are happy with!

You would have thought Lexus would have donated a "capture car" to apprehend the thieving scumbags by now with the damage its doing to its reputation.

It’s not just one group. The technology is hidden inside a Bluetooth speaker, costing £2-4k. Great ROI so both devices and vulnerable cars are in high demand….

  17. 9 minutes ago, Sadz said:

Wouldn't it be locked in based on when the car was registered? Or, will it just follow whatever the price is on that time?

No, you pay the current rate.

The VED “scheme” you’re on is (broadly) “locked” based on year of registration (e.g. the last change was April 2017, so cars before then pay a different set of figures and rates to cars after April 1st 2017]. But the rates in that scheme increase by inflation each year, so I’m afraid we can all look forward to higher prices, both for the standard car tax rate and also the luxury element. They are also removing the £10 discount for hybrid vehicles.

I was happy to finish paying the extra £390 on my NX last December. Now, I need to start paying extra again from next March for the LC. Hope they don't ask for £410 since that's starting from 1st of April.

The luxury car tax element is for years 2 to 6. So you don’t pay it in the first year, but do for the following 5 years. VED typically increases by inflation each year, including the luxury element.
