There is also a complicated way, in the first couple of years of these mandatory ZEV rules, to earn credits based on your average co2 emissions being lower than a few years ago. Lexus are in a good position for this as PHEVs will help bring that average Lexus emissions figure for sales down significantly (as PHEV is generally 25-30g/km) - and those PHEV are approx 50% of new NX and RX sales. The UK market had approx 16.5% of BEV sales last year. Lexus aren’t alone in this issue, but yes, don’t have great EV model options.

2023 was a record for Lexus in the UK with 15,963 cars sold. I believe they also had a global sales record too. Toyota cars are also affected by theft issues, albeit less desirable, so you’d hope/think they have the UK (nevermind global) volume to justify a proper fix.

Yes. The 5th generation RX has a signed/encrypted communication for the key and start. It’s called “Toyota Security Key” and all their newly updated/introduced models have a version of this, which means they aren’t vulnerable to the issue with the 4th gen RX, older NX, and current ES models (amongst others!). Jaguar Land Rover managed it on older models going back to 2016 that had similar flaws. Experts have also said encryption for the key elects here (doors /engine start) wouldn’t add significant overhead. Toyota are the world’s largest car manufacturer - they absolutely could fix this if they chose to.

Educating your children is mandated by law. Owning a car is not, and therefore insurance isn’t mandatory and shouldn’t be state provided. The problem is we’ve been too generous bailing out those making unwise life choices (e.g. those on benefits see a financial increase if they have more kids, courtesy of other taxpayers; whereas those earning & paying their way typically see a big decrease in their household finances if they have more children) that it’s now become expected that the government will solve all problems. Any sense of personal responsibility is sadly gone. I fear too many people aren’t aware of how bad nationalised companies were. I suspect we all may have a refresher course in the next few years.

I would try to get a MY24 car if you can, those are roughly registered late March 2023 onwards. an easy way to tell - the glove box colour matches the interior trim (only helpful on non-black options!), e.g. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202309282440388?sort=price-asc&advertising-location=at_cars&make=Lexus&model=NX&postcode=SP102RH&year-from=2023&fromsra or another way to tell is it has “nano-e” as a climate option. MY24 has new UWB keys - that aren’t vulnerable to people trying to scan and amplify your key signal to remotely unlock your car and start it, so you can dispense with the faraday pouch etc. When I was looking, in the higher trims (Prem Plus, F Sport, Takumi) a 450h+ was often cheaper or same price as the 350h. No idea what the market is like now several months later, but, worth looking at. The 6 seconds 0-60 is very nice on the 450, and I have now gotten very used to driving around everywhere locally on EV power alone!

I had this. I had to remove my user and reset it, twice. This gives you a different screen with three buttons (two accept and one decline). it worked the second time I reset it, and then had to re-associate my key and iPhone!

Just to flag, you won’t find NFU on comparison sites - you’ll need to phone them. But lovely quick and efficient service.

I have the standard. No issues or complaints. Seems a good bit better than the system in my previous Audi.

The LBX is a couple of insurance groups higher than the UX F Sport Design, so you’d expect the LBX to be a bit more.

I believe all Toyota and Lexus dealers have stopped as of autumn last year. At least that was the message from two separate dealer groups at the time.

Insure the Box have been around a while, at least since 2020. interestingly, their policies are also underwritten by Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance UK Ltd, the same company Toyota are a large shareholder in. Which given the connection to Lexus & Toyota insurance that they also underwrite, perhaps explains why they have the car in their lists already.

Not familiar with the IS specifically, but on the more recent cars this is a configurable option. Worth checking the manual to see if you’ve got the option turned off?

I managed to solve the problem of data being off… I did have to remove, reset, and re-add my profile twice. No idea why it seems to have worked after the second attempt… but it just has! By re-adding my profile, all my settings seem to have been re-downloaded correctly, just had to re-pair my iPhone.

I have the same issue and error in my NX - but a 2021 dated map! I use CarPlay so haven’t yet raised with dealer to fix… curious how you / others get on!

If it’s from a 2015 model, that won’t be a 350h - likely a 300h - and so you may want to amend your post and thread title so people with the right car see it?

NFU Mutual may be worth a call - they still have their own underwriters and very friendly whenever I’ve called. otherwise, you may want to run a quote for a similar insurance group car. My NX is also extortionate to insure in London - but an equivalent Audi PHEV was almost identical in price. I know you have the canbus issue in your RX, but, with less NCB and a theft claim, I suspect your quotes for other similar cars may be similarly expensive…
