I did, but like Malc has said, for it's age one would expect it. My MR2 is slightly older than this SC and although in good nick, has some corrosion underneath.

Were you able to see clearly underneath?

The last MOT advisory stated undersealed and this typically just means "we can't inspect it, because we can't see it".

I understand your comments. My concern was not is there some superficial rust. You would expect some of that. No, my concern was is there more than that, but how do you know if you cannot see it through the sealant?

Just interested in how transparent this issue was, because in essence what the rest of  car is like doesn't count for much if it is structurally compromised.

That's why you wear shorts, you are saying, "hey world look at me" 😅😅😅

OK, I agree ,but in fairness my legs are exceptional. Funny story. Just walking along with my wife on the seafront (in shorts). Old chap walking along stops a few feet in front of me and says "You've got better legs than my wife" . Colour me confused, because I am seldom lost for words ,but in this case duh nothing !. Anyway, needless to say my wife was merciless for days.

Fascinating quote from yet another" expert" no doubt! Perhaps they can also explain why there are no blue zones in the Arctic? 🤣

Hey, I have worn shorts through winter virtually all of my life and look at ME ! Oops.

Methinks you're expecting some sort of miracles with these cars .............  Guys, this one is nigh on 23 years old ...  it's a car with 105k miles ......  it's living in the uk climate .....  cars have a habit of rusting, they're made of metal .........   this one looks probably all ok from what I'm reading here 🤞

    Malc

You need to reread malc. Moreover some of the cars at circa this age are in great condition ,because their ownership created that situation. Others not so ,because owners basically did what they do with property, they 'squatted in it and just looked to pass along the problems they didn't bother to rectify.

No over expectations here. Good example, the chap selling his Grey at that price...wonderful ,why not, he's shown it 'the love' which doesn't come cheap. No reason why owners with benign neglect should not be held to account on the auction block.

That's quite good especially in the way the talking head keeps coming back to his script line. What sort of irritates me about all of this as the information flows is just too typical of govt. Lack of due diligence, flaw in policy clear, no recognition that they got the policy operationally wrong, and finally no way back that now does not leave them looking foolish. Let's write it in big letters for them.......CLIFF EDGE POLICIES ARE OFT IMPLICITLY OWNGOALS. That is , in this case they set the testing bar too low and because it isn't an incremental approach it's catching a lot of people on the wrong side of that bar. Answer ,shift the means test bar higher. You will save less money, but most people will at least understand you are not taking money away from people who can afford to see it go. Hardly rocket science is it?

The other notable example of this issue was the WASPI issue. How can you lose 6 years of state pension simply because you were a day younger? How stupid can you get designing such a policy.

I found the car on Auto Trader , did you look at the mot history for the car ? Under body corrosion mentioned many times .

Corrosion, indeed and it looks like an advisory style underseal after it's been brought back for an MOT a few years later. If that's what it sounds like, 'blacking', I would want that removed so I could see what corrosion was like under there before I did anythingelse.

We will insert a caveat just for you Malc. Cold increases longevity as long as it doesn't kill you first !

Hi all, you probably gathered she sold very quickly, first viewing. Lovely lovely vehicles but you need to be able to use them to enjoy them. Good luck to those of you still looking. Thankyou for all your comments.

    Richard

Delighted for you. Looks a great example and care should bring it's reward.

  9. Looks like it has spent a number of years post 2019 off the road. Prior to that number of concerning corrosion advisories and more strikingly first MOT 2023 it's been undersealed in an advisory. That issue would make it my view that it has to be seen on a ramp power washed to a fare thee well so I can actually see the full condition of the underbody without any sealants masking it.

  10. Could be tough love gone fiscally wrong. Given, longevity + equals Healthcare costs +. Based upon;

"Cold activates a cellular cleansing mechanism that breaks down harmful protein aggregations responsible for various diseases associated with aging. In recent years, studies on different model organisms have already shown that life expectancy increases significantly when body temperature is lowered."

    Rachie cares, Who'd thunk it.

Tells you a variety of info re past ownership ,plate changes, keeper history, accident etc etc reporting.

Actually, i have one voucher unused and I have no anticipation that I am going to use it. Hence, if any regular here finds a need let me know and I can use it on a report for any car you might be interested in.

But all in all I had a most amazing marvellous one month trip driving around and Top to Toe holiday throughout Italy  .....  but it did take me a whole month 👍

    Malc

In truth I am envious. I really really like Italy. The wine, food, culture just ticks all my boxes. A country wide tour would be bellissimo. Don't get me started on their shoes !! Absolutely, the best in the world to be found there combining outstanding design with finishing work of the highest order. I'm rambling !

I was fascinated at the Motorways enroute 😂🤣 occasionally they just STOPPED in mud and gravel and continued as a B road whatever ……. but that was some years back ……. Surely they’ve improved 🥳

    Malc

    "Surely they’ve improved 🥳 "

Yes, they've removed those annoying dinosaur bones that used to shred your tyres.

  15. So ,she is back and whiffs a bit ! The Corrolan sealant smeared liberally all over her underside and every cavity imaginable contains Lanolin extracted from sheep. Apparently there are pictures of before, after prep and after completion ,but they have not yet been sent. Neither did I get a chance to see it on the ramp. Consequently, had it jacked up this morning to have a look see. God awful colour until it has cured. Actually looks the colour of Rust. Who thought that one up? Couple of pics I just took, but I won't post more than that. Looks awful. I understand in about 6 weeks it will darken. Roll on !.

Meanwhile, whilst it up let's do a little housework down there. Pics.

As an aside going back to an earlier conversation with Bob the tyres are 245 allround.

Yes, I did wipe off the streak of corrolan on the exhaust, but it shows you the colour (shudder).

Cleaned up the alloys inside whilst at it. Stripping the callipers to have a look see.

    Malc

I was nodding along until " and ALWAYS met really nice happy people too, everywhere ".

I have booked a house in France for the whole of March. Not the south of Spain admittedly!

    But £27 a night.

Sounds good to me. I did some AirBB search and found at least some choice in Spain for around £700 to £800 a month. Mostly appts. Got to say I am 'warming' to the idea. Still August and the weather already feels like end of Sept.

What area? Closest town? I've always been in interested in that triangle Poitiers,Tours, and Angers. Seem to have managed to drive past it numerous times thinking what a good area that would be to set up for some daily touring. Amazing amount of history in that area.

All the economics is doing my head in, but the idea of spending some winter months in S Spain looks particularly attractive. I must do the sums.

My brother does this each year. Disappears a few days after the New Year and comes back around the 1st March.

Not just mainland Spain though. Last year he went to Madeira. Costs all in were approx £3k per month. By his admission you could do this for considerably less. They just like to eat out a lot. Also moving around quite a bit costs them more for the accomm.

No Linas, I haven’t!  As I say, the accompanying invitation details all the current and relevant Lexus models to which the ‘Event’ applies - none of which appears to offer me any benefit over my current car.

I could go just to do the usual tyre kicking and wheel twiddling and indulge in a bit of pampering by the Sales Staff.  On the other hand, I might have encountered the same appalling behaviour that you’ve detailed here!

Clearly, these ‘Events’ are organised centrally by Stephen Eagell but they are personalised to the extent that they claim an exclusive ‘Manager’s Offer’ that will only be revealed upon my attendance.  I’m always surprised that it doesn’t require presentation of Birth Certificate and/or Passport as well!

But all this faux image of exclusivity is damagingly counterproductive if incompetent administrators haven’t organised the local Dealers involved!

I had just such an Invitation quite recently, which I simply binned.  But now I’m tempted to accept the next one just to see how the experience compares.  What deters me is that selling cars is not the easiest of ways to make a living and I would feel guilty taking up Sales Staff time.

When I first bought the car, Lexus MK used to do a full complimentary valeting with the service - and a very good job they made of it too!  They have their own car wash on the premises.  But then I had it Detailed and to protect the ceramic finish that was a no-go area.

That meant that it came back with only the interior done - which was fine by me.  Until…a couple of service’s ago when I reiterated the No Car Wash request when the car was collected from me.  Later in the day I had a very concerned call from the Service Manager explaining that the message hadn’t got to the Car Wash Executive in time who had proceeded to do their stuff.  He asked that I checked the car specifically for any marking on its return and they would undertake to rectify it.

Firstly, I was impressed that he made the call.  If there was no marking then how would I have known?  To then accept responsibility in advance was equally impressive.  Now how this compares with other Lexus Dealers, I have no idea.  It’s all so dependent on the attitudes of individuals  -  and your experience suggests  that even Lexus has a way to go in this regard.

I have rarely chastised anyone for making a mistake being a believer in the 'to err is to be human'. For me the test is having made a mistake what do you then do about it? Do you own it and without further ado try to rectify it?  I liked your Lexus story ,because of the latter.
