  1. There seems to be trend developing here. A strange and worrisome correlation between having worked in a bank and then becoming a Lexus Owner. Is this really a motoring forum, or is it a secret society for retired bank robbers ! 💥dynamite
  2. "pretty good for an elderly 4 ltr V8 eh ! " Car didn't do badly either. 👍
  3. Are they related to Gastroesophageal reflux disease | NHS inform I see some shared DNA in that they both make you want to throwup. 😉
  4. Man with good taste ! Glad you are onboard. I like that colourway of Blue/Ecru. Would have liked it myself, but was not sure I would get it in the same condition that I did end up buying. Like you I could see very few around that ticked all my boxes so I settled for the one that ticked the majority of them. Can't tell if it's a trick of the light or not, but does she have a bit of a scrape on the rear wheel arch and underside of the rear bumper ?
  5. To be fair I paid the full 10k for this ,because some of your spend had already been done to my satisfaction. Like the exhaust, majority of brakes and suspension (coilovers). Also satisfied with the current audio and exactly how good it is I don't know, because I am virtually deaf in one ear and not that good in the other. Stew is probably thinking he had not noticed, but I lip read well as I have been doing it for most of my life. Anyway the Audio is good enough for me. So, my rough guesstimate on buying this was that I would spend circa 10 to 15k doing mechanical/structural stuff, now and future, with the rest getting the leatherwork and body right on point including some dream Alloys at some point. I was inspired by Nigel? doing his leather seats so I am determined to have a go at that as it's my kind of thing to do. Likewise I am going to take the finish on the bodywork right back and rebuild it. Hence, I will have to spend on an erectable outside 'tent' so I can work out of the weather. Depending how I do with that work I might underspend, or just decide it's not good enough and pay for it to be redone. At the end of it, at my age I could have gone out and spent 20 to 30k buying something a couple of years old with not much mileage and been bored to tears, but if I was going to do that then I don't think I would have waited since I sold my last car in 2016 to do it. My wife has been teasing me to buy a new Aston Martin for years, but I wanted a car that 'grabbed' me and motivated me to create a project with it. The SC 430 is that car. Personally I don't care about resale issues I will leave that to my wife/daughter to determine. I am here for a Good Time not a Long Time and the car is a part of that.
  6. I also travelled from Norwich to Scunthorpe using absolutely no petrol. I can tell you keeping the tension right on the siphoning tubing was a real challenge.
  7. First thing I did was create a spreadsheet and wee macro program to show chronologically the spend on the car. Obviously I have the soul of an artist, but the head of an accountant. I suspect that combination means none of best examples shown are going to have serious competition from Lexigirl. Having said which I can think of a couple of ideas generated that will get seriously scrutinised.
  8. Then let's keep them out of the SC 430 otherwise Noah will need to build another Ark.
  9. You are showing great potential. Next editor of the Guardian no doubt !
  10. 😉 Careful, careful, you are one step from being cancelled. Remember this. Could be a picture of you there labelled 19th century man, extinct ! Actually that isn't any of us , he can still see his w...lie.
  11. I am fairly sure the Guardian coined the term 'woke'. it's only a question of time until they create a media issue calling for the ban of razor blades on the grounds of cruelty to hair follicles.
  12. I already don't trust the matching beards and paste on smiles. Don't tell me, they got thrown out of being boy scout leaders.
  13. Currently working on my self discipline to prevent that reoccurring , but failing that I could just break my typing finger. Only one, so all good really.
  14. If you ever see any 18 yr old body transplants on there, let me know. Price no object.
  15. Not sure people would defer for 4 years even if that timetable was accurate. On the otherhand if it were to be truly gamechanging then it wouldn't bode well for residual car value on those cars that suddenly became technologically obsolesent (relatively speaking).
  16. All prices I have seen quoted were well below this. Is it a main dealer quoting?
  17. "I might become an erstwhile collector of Ls400s eh !🤣" I thought they were called scrapyards ! 😉
  18. As an addendum that I really shouldn't have to state. CARS ARE A DEPRECIATING ASSET.
  19. Thinking through the financial aspects is interesting. Clearly major mod work is a cost mineshaft. You won't know where the bottom is until you hit it. Or may be you prefer 'how longs a piece of string'. The operative word is 'long' isn't going to be cheap. So, how long are you in it for might be a question worthy of consideration. 10 grand over 5 yrs equals 2k pa for the enjoyment of participating assuming no capital return and excluding the effect of inflation on the purchasing power of your hobby. Not even the cost of a cruise. Double it and ....so forth and how far are you willing to go should clarify itself. The other question is future resale. This is a problem I suspect. You cannot really sell to someone of like mind, because you have already done what they might have wanted to do to a large extent. Hence , they have pride of ownership ,but without the crucial satisfaction of creation. Selling to someone not of like mind doesn't look happiness either , because at the end of the day you are selling them something that is 'old' by car standards and they probably want it priced like that which really means your investment is much reduced even if you can strip it out and just sell as a stock car. However, in that I could see at least some way of reducing the overall cost of participation. I imagine the only real winning way out is if you can sell it to someone who is a collector of the 'different' , but there are not likely to be too many of those about. This of course is where 'rarity' (classic x age x etc) comes into it. May be the fabled reliability is a liability in this case, because rarity is achieved faster if they are scrapped with some frequency. I am sure there are other questions ,but these are decent one's to start with if you are considering taking the plunge.
  20. Purple guy is driven in more than one sense of the word. Separating personal preferences from appreciating creativity all I will say is if you prefer the Tate to the National Art Gallery then this is probably for you.
  21. The General is a bit of a downer. If you ever thought you were going to have the best leatherwork. Forget it ,it's been done ! I lie, I have one version that might just scrape by, but trouble is it wouldn't fit the colour way of my SC 430. I think what looking at these examples of the SC 430 brings home is if you want to do something special with yours then the fundamentals of the car need to be right for you to build on. Otherwise what's the point.
  22. OTT Audio. Even if you do not even particularly like the SC 430 you should look a what the owner did with that car. Very creative and that's just the leatherwork. Would drive me bonkers driving with that all around me, but fantastic just to stand back and scrutinise what's been done. Just a semi sacrilege moment when you see the row of soft drink cans on the console next to that gorgeous leather.
  23. You know some people listen to whale music to relax. I will just put that video on loop with the sound muted.
