Lots of fun, got 2 new inner track rods, fitted, front realigned and living the dream!

Have been away for half term and left her with my friend who is a fabricator to finally get the exhaust tips done. 1st pic was obvs the obligatory ***** take one 😆 and then following 2 are the end result, very happy with the outcome 🙂

I don't think I have seen pipes like the first pic since I was abducted on an Alien spacecraft. 😏

Just a touch of jealousy that I have not got near mine for awhile. Due to the incredible micro climate of Preston I have been on gardening leave. No, not the good type where you get paid to stay at home. The other sort communing with mother nature whilst pretending you know the difference between a weed and a flower. Cluesy's ,I don't.

Did however, get a trip to Clitheroe in the SC 430 and got her booked in for a couple of minors to be taken care of. This is what I like about the North. Talking about my little list to the lady behind reception (who has probably forgotten more about cars than most of us will ever know). Comes to the ridiculous number from the dealer for doing a bit of brake pipe. She coughs to smother a laugh and says' 'do you know the cost of brake pipe?', "No, I reply". She says " excluding the coffee we don't serve that you don't need it's £2.50 a foot so take away our cost from the dealer cost and you can afford to buy me dinner". Well, I blush as you do 'cos I'm lying about the last little bit of course, it was breakfast not dinner. 😏

We had a very good discussion about winter prepping the undercarriage of the car  which reinforced my idea that I need a motor tent to get this car out of the weather where I can get it jacked up onto axel stands so I can get under there and really give it the kind of sorting out no one else is going to give it. Without the prep I am convinced anything going on top is pretty much a waste of time and money.

Well call me naive, but it never occurred to me that my initial chit-chat with the Sales folk at Lexus MK might affect my future standards of service.

In fact it’s now so long ago that I can’t really remember how my time as a Hitman for the Mafia even came up….

You probably never had to say word. The bulge of your weapon gave it away.

It’s true there is no extra space behind the seats and with the roof down there is very little space in the boot.  However the majority of sports cars are just two seater with no space at all behind the seats so the SC being 2+2 adds quite a bit of space for luggage etc. A lot more than the BMW and TVR I had some years ago.

Indeed, and I think the point is being missed. You drive the SC 430 you either, Fed Ex your luggage, or just buy a new wardrobe when you get where you are going. No, fetching your supermarket shopping home in it is expressively forbidden. Look in the small print at the back of the manual where it states " Persons of absolutely no taste whatsoever may never be permitted to own this car although you may ride as a passenger if you remember not to talk".  😏

  4. I have to say the more I get to know about this car SC 430 the more I change my mind on valuations. A few have come up 2007 -2009 fairly low mileage and appearing to be well maintained. I had at first thought 13k and upwards was overpriced. However, I am changing my mind on this subject. The scarcity and characteristics of the car when well maintained is in my view worthy of the price tag when I look at comparative vehicles. Indeed, unless demand for them drops for some reason I would think the pricing will remain solid.

Obviously there are some out there you would approach with extreme caution , because they are hardly worthy of buying at any price.

……. and after the rugby 🏉

Jeez you don't want to know. Am I irritated, disappointed, fed up? Hard to say. I grew up playing running rugby, but the Boks just try to smother the other teams ability to play. It might win games ,but it will kill the sport. This is already a sport with huge financial problems and the Boks as world champions doesn't help that issue even a little bit.

    Dear all,

Several months ago, I began experiencing a recurring issue with the brakes of my vehicle. Specifically, I noticed a squealing noise whenever I applied the brakes at low speeds < 10 mph. Initially, I sought the assistance of my local mechanic, who informed me that the brakes were worn and needed to be repaired. This came as a surprise to me, as I only drive circa 12,000 miles per year, most of which consists of motorway driving.

Since I was due for a major service at my local Lexus dealer, I decided to have them examine the brakes and address the noise issue. I explained the situation to the technician, who determined that the front brake pads were missing a shim kit, causing the aforementioned noise (yes I had to google it) 🙂. Additionally, the technician informed me that the brakes were not OEM parts. Given their expert or so I though recommendation, I decided to have the brakes and discs replaced, despite the hefty cost of £330.

Unfortunately, within a a couple of days, the squealing noise returned, much to my disappointment. As a result, I scheduled another appointment with the dealer today. They provided me with the customary video of my car on the ramp, and their mechanic narrated he had cleaned the brakes, both front and back. However, they now attribute the noise to two potential causes: 1) chemicals from a car wash that have made their way onto the disc pads, and 2) the notion that this noise is common among hybrid vehicles (which seems like a convenient excuse).

I have owned the vehicle for five years and have not made any changes to my driving habits or the way in which the car is washed or maintained (full Lexus service history). Prior to this year, I never encountered any issues with the brakes.

I have attached a video depicting the noise for your reference. Any assistance in resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Just bear in mind I am part deaf, but I don't hear any squealing noise. I hear some 'clunking'. Have you had a look at rotors?

Looks like a well tidy LS, and I can see why £10K is a fair price - assuming it drives well and nothing in running gear needs a jolly good sort.

I guess most of us got used to buying them for a song when not many appreciated the beauty of these cars, given I paid £2,250 for my Mk4, and in 11 years of ownership would not have come to £10K in total expenditure, but if I had room I would be sorely tempted, but the missus would be an ex-missus fairly quickly

"but the missus would be an ex-missus fairly quickly" well, if you are ever looking for a reason !

  8. Generally a lack of awareness. Easier to 'sleepwalk autopilot' behind the wheel.

It's no different than I get when walking my dog. He's a German Shepherd and typically taught to be people neutral albeit at a distance of a metre. He will react to people or other dogs approaching me closer. Bearing that in mind when I see someone coming with another dog I have my body between him and them. Helps if the other people are awake and see it and copy. The we have two dogs separated by two people. Easy hey. Don't believe it, hardly ever happens. Most people are just sky gazing, on their phones , or away with the fairies not paying attention to  anything. May be I should have posted that on 'what am I ranting about today' thread.

Sadly I couldn’t resist, the green LS400 will be delivered to me on 8th November, then I’ll get it booked into Lexus Guildford for a service and cam belt change. The underside is good, but will go into the body shop after the service to be protected where necessary.

She's barely been doing 1,000 miles a year for the last 8 years. For 1999 she looks very good down below. Not sure if I should rewrite that.

Congrats on your buy I dare say Malc will have something ( a lot) to say about it.

  10. Another one came back on today £500 off the start price. Unusual really 'cos it had only done 30k miles upto 2015 and then it's basically put 100k on since. Benn a main drive for someone. Their problem is at £7k the mileage does not compare well with the market now regardless of any other issues.

I only really looked because normally I would not like that colour, but with the Ecru it actually looks really well.
