For portable garages, look at motorsport garages/awnings, you can’t bang spikes into a tarmac/concrete paddock, I’ve use shelters from Hamilton Classics, metal plates under each leg that can be weighted down (cheap plastic buckets filled with postfix and then stacked on top on each other, the buckets are easy to move and each leg can have 25/50/75/100 kg on each leg depending on how many buckets of set postfix you stack).

The awnining company have some fantastic marques, seen in many paddocks and can supply metal weights for each leg. These collapsible structures can be easily stored and are always wanted by motorsport guys, so have resale value.

I'm on it, and thank you very much. Appreciated.

  2. Yesterday was a tad frustrating. Trying to get setup to tackle the underside of the car. Watched quite a few youtube tutorials to get an idea of what's involved and what equipment you need. Could see a 'bottoming' job might take me circa 50 hrs or so. Can only work 2 hrs maximum these days and certainly no more than that given most of it is spent horizontal under the car. Having just been doing some ground cover work around the garden which is also on your knees etc I concluded it would be 2hrs a session and only every other day ,because I need a recovery day inbetween sessions to throw off the aches/pains. So, 50 hrs ,2 hrs session, 25 days, every other day equals about 50 days. There will be commitments elsewhere so round it up to 60 days, 2 months ! Certainly a through winter project that's for sure, but that's ok as slow and steady will still get you there.

To begin I need a portable garage to erect to work out of the weather. Frustration be thy name. I have a cobbled driveway so I cannot just bang retaining pins into the ground to stop it flying away in a high wind. As it stands I still have not found one that appears to be well reviewed and one which i can actually use on a cobbled driveway. If I could see one erected at least i would know if I could literally sandbag it to the driveway.

Feel like I spent the better part of a day and have made no real progress. That's not true I suppose as I think I am leaning more towards using Bilt Hamber rather than Lanoguard. Portable garage recommendations welcomed. No, I don't want to farm this out, because the satisfaction of doing it myself is part of what having the car is supposed to provide.

HeHe, I wonder if the wife would buy me a shipping container for xmas to go on the driveway 😏

    Peace of mind is priceless

Maybe priceless is the wrong term to use ……. Your garage has taken “ advantage “ of your loyalty methinks and certainly not been slow in expanding their bill

I just fail to see 28hrs labour charge tbh ……. that’s probably 4 whole, one-man working days worth of effort …….

    You’re very trusting …….

    Malc

Yet how difficult to validate what is involved. If not to take in on trust you need either extensive experience yourself to understand the extent of the works, or you need to have shopped around and may be have 2 or even 3 quotes for the same work. Unfortunately, the latter does not tend to reflect that many of us tend to want to use the same people repeatedly when they have done something for us to our satisfaction previously. That of course does leave us exposed to abuse of trust.

I will say I have not got the first clue how many manhours would be involved in the above works so is 28 hrs reasonable I cannot say. I will say that at a rate of £52 ph the rate is not in my view unreasonable. Indeed, I couldn't get a decent gas/electrician etc for that money these days. and they don't even have the same fixed overheads to pay for. So, may be overall not such a bad deal?

  4. Carla Thomas - the first Soul artist I ever saw live.

Funny story with this one. A friend and I were trying to attract the attention of two girls on the edge of the dance floor. We were stood right behind them. I was wearing a woollen reversible sleeveless V neck sweater on top of my Ben Sherman shirt as you do. Mid song fed up of us they decided to dance and walked off. Halfway across the dancefloor they suddenly stopped and swung around to confront me with 'are you following me?'. To which I honestly replied 'I'm attached to you' which got a are you taking the proverbial stare. So I points to the floor where there is this pile of wool and repeat ' I'm really attached to you'. My sweater had become caught in a brooch at the back of her dress and has she walked away to my chagrin my sweater started to unravel behind her. I can hear the unasked question and the answer is , nope she blew me out on the spot tearing the wool with her bare hands. Tough these Lancashire girls.

None of the SC430’s had rear sensors fitted from the factory although some had them fitted by the dealership before they were sold. Consequently very few have them fitted which is why many owner’s now go for having a rear camera fitted instead.

I had assumed because my car has them it was standard, but obviously not the case. Some of us need sensors AND a camera.

The wife is always reminding me of the speed limit when I am doing 41 in a 40 zone. I got her the pink hat for her birthday.

This is me on the bike when I was a young tearaway.

I'll avoid visiting the West Country thank you .............. never known the roads getting there to be an easy drive !

A man/driver of your calibre and huge experience might welcome the challenge of a drive that is not 'easy'.

Seems to get good reviews whereas the cheap ones get generally poor reviews. You can even buy a separate adapter to plug it in to th OBD port.

So now I know what a OBD port is and what it does. Not anywhere close to the wharp drive afterall.

With your being a "facelift" model with quite low mileage and a rare colour then you should no problem selling it.

Even better if it was registered before April 2006.

Are we going to get a photo  or two? I am intrigued by the colour. Does not sound like one I have seen before.

Boomer54…… are you putting your Sc in the hands of an Indy to sort out the brake pipes ?
Or is she only going to the  Main Dealer for All ?

    Malc

Got to be Indy 'cos next time she has to buy me breakfast. No, seriously I like to build relationships with people for things like this so if I go to one place for something then I will go there for everything. The dealer would not deal with any repair that might involve working on none OEM stuff so that means I won't go to them for anything.
