Well, we are all up the creek now that the one of the authors of the tory cutbacks is back in the seat - Lard Cameron.

I more year of useless tory damage to everyone then a Labour government who will likely say that they cannot put it right quickly so it will take another 5 years of hardship.

We are all doomed  -    DOOMED!😮

Didn't really want to get into politics as in my opinion it's tainted ground for conversations that go bad quickly. I just made the point that people selling cars are affected by the current economic climate and that next year may change due to pressure from politicians in power at the top looking to keep a job.

  2. Really weird happenings in the car yesterday.

Due to inactivity and a couple of frosts overnight my Battery was low. Got some charge back from a run on Saturday out to Heysham and back, but thought I would turn it over daily for a couple of days to preserve it. Yesterday I took a book out with me to sit in the car whilst it was idling on my driveway. Over the course of 50 minutes my CD player came to life spontaneously. First time I nearly headbutted the roof I was so surprised. Each time I faithfully turned it of just to have it repeat a total of 3 times.

Obviously I will be monitoring this. For context I have not had this problem before during my ownership of the last couple of months. Moreover yesterday the winds here were very strong and just sat in the car I could feel the car rock periodically from the gusts.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Clearly I am wondering about the effects of the wind and I will be watching now as the weather returns to normal. Still, it seems an unusual occurrence.

  3. I suspect a lot will change when the BOE begin the process of reducing financing costs with their central bank rate. The effect of rising rates is like a giant size Hoover in that it sucks moneyflow from the majority of the economy and redirects it. The effect of course being to squeeze out demand and reduce inflation.

Cars are a type of asset albeit depreciating and thus they are affected like so many other assets. Best guess at this time is for rates to begin reducing during the course of next year so it might be wise if you can to defer making any sell decision. Although as I said it is a depreciating asset so there is also a cost to waiting. On balance though I probably would wait. Election year next year so the much vaunted BOE independence will get tested to the max by little guys running from Downing Street to Threadneedle Street saying " If you want to keep your job Rishi says get cutting".

That's a great point about the increased home security and also the insurance

I need to mention this to my insurers to try and get my diabolically increased premiums down. I am sure we have ALL seen a ridiculous increase. I'm paying way more for my Honda HRV than I did for Lexus 450

If the modern day Insurance Industry is lacking it is that the Algorithm driven systems that determine premiums just fail to accommodate at the individual level. Here's a chap who has made an investment in risk reduction , but where is the offset via the premiums channel that balances the rewards of that investment to both parties involved in the Insurance contract. I hope you get some recognition from your Insurance company for your efforts otherwise this is a one way street when it comes to who benefits and that would simply not be fair and equitable.

  5. The more I read here about the issues with new Lexus models the happier I am to have bought an 18 year old car. Looks right now like another tick in the credit side of the ledger. People seem to be losing more in depreciation in a matter of months than I paid for this car and frankly I don't see the value. Well that is not true I do see it. It's typically called egosation (I just made that up). The value is the intangible need to be seen to be succeeding and letting others know it by a 'peacock' display of what one is driving. I am not criticising anyone doing that. It's a very human behaviour to have and indeed without it perhaps the motivational drive would be some what less than it is. I will however say from personal experience that it is liberating when you have discarded that need.

Well my 2020 Takumi was taken from outside my house last night. The Lexus app shows it as being 2 miles way at midnight. Police are at the location but cannot locate it, I assume the standard Lexus tracker on the app has now been disabled. Obviously I am suspecting the Canbus method of stealing it, I had a steering wheel lock on as well.

Tell me if you want to borrow my hatchet.

  7. I think if people with far more experience than me think a 1.25 ton jack and two adjustable axel stands offer a safe platform to work the underbody then I am not going to overthink it , or second guess their experience. Buying the kit either on Black Friday or running into it. Keen to get going on my job list. Searching for a well reputed coach builder with good experience of working with Aluminium. Going to get best information on taking the roof to polished Aluminium. Just need to know the full implications going into it.

  8. At the weekend I paid a visit to look at another SC 430 recently bought by a really nice guy and enthusiast. Amongst other things his car a 2001 model had the rear light array replaced with the face-lift mod. I have to say I really liked that effect. In my view it just looks like a cleaner more aesthetically appealing design. So, my job book got a new addition, replace rear light array. I will have a deeper look at what is involved in the near future.

Have really decided now that I want another SC 430 to run against my existing car to help keep the overall mileage down. However , my job book keeps growing so I am going to defer that move until I whittle down my works list.

I certainly see why some people are running two cars if they really like them a lot.

Oh my ……. wot ‘appnd to my suggestion to rent a little time on a garage ramp …… and save that 999 call to A&E 🤔

Buying that trolley jack £££££ cost might equate to garage ramp rent time you know !

We’ll miss your Posts you know 😰

If the car falls on my head we should all be concerned for the car.

and of course you need to be able to rub two bits together to get the heat for the flame to light it all 🥵

No, I find somebody I don't like and I use them like a sanding block. Indeed , I wouldn't bother with wood for the stove if I could work out how to get a whole body in there.

I've 'made' kindling years ago. Only thing is I always used a blunt axe. Worked way better than with a sharp one.

Still got the one my Dad had so I'm guessing it's about 80 years old.

An axe with little edge is a good thing ,because the heavier head does the damage. Too much edge as a tendency to stick in the wood rather than smash through it. An hatchet is a bit different. The weight o f the head is what does the damage, but because you are essentially cutting through wood with thinner cross sections you do want to preserve a decent edge.

    Hi all

    Please help.

My roof has stopped working. Got in the car today and pressed the roof switch. The windows go down, the trunk opens ready for the roof, there is slight movement and I can see the unlocking of the hardtop above my head in the drivers seat and then everything stops.

There is then a solid red light on the roof switch.

    Please help, thank you.

Thought I would reply this even though it old just in case someone else gets this problem. First step make sure your Battery is fully charged ,or close to it.

Like the classic theme, I can't remember anyone else taking the car in that direction and the shape does lend itself to it. The white band on the tyres looks smart, works well with those multi-spoke wheels and that lovely blue paintwork does look good. 👍

Does the luggage rack create much wind noise?

"Does the luggage rack create much wind noise? "

None that I can hear. Was not sure about it at the start ,but it has grown on me and have come to quite like it. Bit of a throwback to years gone by.

I’ve been using a 1.25 ton alloy Jack on all my Lexus cars over the last fews years.

why 1.25 ton…well I’m only jacking one end of the car at a time, so no need for a jack capable of lifting the whole car .

It’s only used to Jack vehicle up, as I ALWAYS put quick release axle stands under the vehicle…however big or small the job.
