Which country to follow one might ask

Both Italy and France have enough cause to follow that move. Both are politically swinging to the right as is indeed is Germany.

As usual we appear to be out of step.

    From May 1793

During the insurrection, Robespierre had scrawled a note in his memorandum-book:

What we need is a single will (il faut une volonté une). It must be either republican or royalist. If it is to be republican, we must have republican ministers, republican newspapers, republican deputies, a republican government. ... The internal dangers come from the middle classes; to defeat the middle classes we must rally the people. ... The people must ally themselves with the Convention, and the Convention must make use of the people.

    Sounds familiar 🙁

"rally the people"...translated for Starmer speak this clearly is no problem has he so obviously does not want people anywhere near cars.

Speaking of revolution you raise an interesting thought Ed. What are Starmer's view on a Republic V Monarchy does he have form here? I am then inextricably drawn to thinking about Robespierre and his part in the French Revolution and denouncement of the King. He was also a lawyer could he be Starmer's role model.?

    Anatomical differences ... Robespierre had b..s !

    Malc

Malc, without a doubt, with age, I have lost a step so to speak. However, I would know the underside of this car anywhere if only because of the exhaust system, but there are other clues of course. I paid him yesterday in full so unless the garage give me a totally bad report it is over. As to the latter I really don't see that happening. Even with these pics it looks like the job I was expecting. In addition, I know cavities were done with Active Corrollan ,because they don't plug drainholes , and I have been soaking up seepage with  sheets of plenty padding under the holes.

With matters like these you should attempt to stay the right side of what the law reasonably allows. After the pics there really was little reason to retain his payment. Moreover, I also know IF in the unlikely event this turned out to be a bad job I do always have the option of going back to him with the option that he correct it. Failure to do that fulfils my obligation to him and the next step is to obtain a quote from the garage. Get them to do it and then claim against him in Small Claims for that cost. That is the way this process works to stay the right side of the legal line. Decades in business my friend and I have been down this path multiple times like anybody in business would do. That is experience and knowledge bought the hard way, but it's a useful thing to have in situations like this, because I knew exactly what to do.

Below are a couple of dirty ones that I personally didn't have to deal with (just photos from Google) but I have had more than my fair share of dirty ones to deal with during my days as a self-employed computer repair technician.

Smokers are the worst ones for me. I've never wanted to even have a single drag of any tobacco product and I absolutely abhor cigarette smoke, finding it acrid and horrible.

If it was really bad I would put up the price of the repair. I've even refused to take on the job if it's really, really bad, but assuming I took it home, the first thing for a smoker's machine would be out to the air compressor and a good blast with the gun.

Brainpick. (Wow had to go back and manually amend that computer generated typo).

So, mysterious mouse freezes, random pc crash, occasional blue death screen that disappeared so fast you can't even grab the error code. Does that all sound like a problem created via heating not being able to be vented quickly enough?

My pc is a tiny ssd silent one. Little box under the screen.

    IMG_20240907_233219.jpg

Yes, these are called mini pc's. SSD is solid state diskdrive which keeps the noise level down and in the main provides a higher data retrieval rate.

Mine packs a higher processor than a I7, along with 32mb DDR5 dual channel ram AND 500 gb SSD all easily plug and play expandable. As if I am ever going to need more than that!

I guess if I have any concern it might be longevity rather than obscelescense.

I know the feeling. I put a shelf up in the garage and had a sore foot ( like a sprain )  for a week afterwards. It's called old age.

No, I don't know why my foot kicked off either.

Foot..hmm...you do know we have these things called hammers for that job right?.

@Phil xxkr All candidates should be aware of the legislation, and I’d be surprised if their agents and party officials don’t provide some form of briefing or training.

The issue with this legislation as I understand it - and why it looks fierce on paper but isn’t simple - is that it specifically pins the obligation for candidates on damaging the reputation of other candidates through untruths. Thus, the reason the leader of our Council wrote to our new MP and HINTED at the legislation rather than explicitly referencing it, is that during the campaign she promised particular things while seemingly expressing that other candidates would not support those things. She’d have to have known - and it would have to be proved - that she also knew at the time about potential Government policy when coming into power.

What does all this mean? It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that all it really means is that the words of politicians during a campaign (frankly at any time) mean nothing.

One final point. During the campaign Rachel Reeves noted in a couple of interviews that Labour would have “…the worst economic inheritance since the war.” Yet now the supposed “£22bn black hole” is a huge surprise to them. People will draw their own conclusions as to the honesty and integrity of her and her party.

I cannot make up my mind . Are

    1. Politicians thick

    or

    2. Smart enough to know their lie,but stupid enough to not understand that we also know the lie.

    Take your pick.

Tough choices are words that have nothing to do with which choices you choose to make. You make the choice from an array of alternatives on offer and apologising for the choice you make does not make it right. Now when I put that with another of their favourite spins "will be paid for by those with broad shoulders". Exactly how does that follow? Does depriving a few million of the poorer OAPS's who don't qualify for pension credit align with 'broad shoulders"? Rhetorical question , because the answer is of course it doesn't. It is just a bad choice. I do not include  myself ,or anyone of similar financial status in any of this. We don't need the WFA and never did. Take it with my blessings. However, it is clear there are literally millions who don't fit that profile and they deserve better choices/decisions from our politicians.

Wes old chum before you make an asre of yourself educate yourself. Take at look at Japanese debt for just a starter. Look at their age demographics. Explain why they don't feel a need to follow your 'tough choices' down the nearest toilet.

  11. Was dealing with what is known as the 'Blue Death'  screen something  you don't want to see appear on your PC. This is a problem that can have so many causes it really is hard to know where to start if you don't have an error code.

Anyway worked my way through causes eliminating step by step. As a last resort I thought may be it's overheating so for the first time in about X years I opened the tower up and shock horror enough dust to fill a mattress. Hoovered it clean starting with the fans and vents. At this point, success, that appears to have cleared it all up and we are now back in business with no mystery crashes and freezes for 3 days.

I had been thinking about a new PC to put at my daughters for when we are staying there and also a good backup for when this PC goes 'bang'. Wow, I cannot believe where the hardware has gone in the years since I last bought. I only posted all this to show you just what they have now got available. No more PC tower the size of a large briefcase. Look below at this little diddy. I posed it alongside a 7" Kindle tablet so you can see the size. Monitor speakers are crap ,but I just connected up my old Altec Lansing (nothing special), fiddled with the advanced setting to optimise and bang Beth Hart never sounded better.

Lexigirl just became the new screen shot !! Do I like this car....just a lot lot.

No more car shows for me. I just won't be able to drive on the grass anymore in case Lexigirl decides to eat the turf.

Presume you have watched all the videos?

Yes, the first thing I did before approaching the chap was to go to the Rustbuster site, read everything, watch everything. I did think the Corrolan after spray colour was 'unfortunate', but I understand it darkens down after 4 to 6 weeks of curing. That curing time is also why I was happy to Sorn the car after treatment and give that curing process a chance to complete without being affected by road debris etc.

I will say where they write that it does not smell like some treatments they are misleading people. It really does whiff a lot to begin with. I actually wrote down and printed off the entire process from their website and I handed a copy to the chap and deliberately asked is that what I can expect from you. To his credit he looked it over before saying yes that's the process and it only varies depending on my judgement as to where to apply the FE 123 converter.

It's far too early to say if I will in the future recommend Corrolan. We will just have to see how we go in the next couple of years.

The good thing is it should hit half a million signatures before Tuesday’s vote in parliament on the cut. It will hopefully focus Labour MPs minds….

Yes, big fat round numbers just catch the attention better. Half a million voters telling you they don't like what you are doing ought to mean something. Trouble is politicians frequently talk about listening only because they do not actually listen.

  17. I actually tried to make a start on the prep. However, reality kicked in. The days I could get into those positions and work are over. I did however do my own leather and the money that was earmarked for covered the undersealing so I am OK with it all.
