The filter for £87 was the air con filter.

The clue is in the filter 'con'. £87 for a filter that costs Lexus a few £ and takes 5 minutes to change . . . . not exactly value for money. Held to ransom to maintain the warranty.

Changing air filters only at 4 years on a high performance car doesn't exactly sound right but Lexus in their wisdom deem this to be acceptable. Seeing as how air filters are relatively inexpensive to buy, I would replace them myself after 2 years.

  2. The wheel should be turned all the way to the beginning to allow the old disc to be removed easily.

After you fit the new disc you will need to adjust the wheel so that the brake shoes are making just the slightest of contact with the disc.

Do you have a new set of brake shoes or just discs and pads? The shoes may be ok but after 100k miles, I'd be tempted to replace these as well since you will have the disc off.

  3. I have personally bought 2 cars from them, the most recent being July 2023.

The sales staff were very nice but the workshop needs to improve in my opinion.

Issues I had were 1) tyre pressures all completely different (checked a few days after buying) 2) Had to change key fob Battery a month after buying 3) engine oil overfilled 4) road wheels seized onto hubs.

I recently changed the engine oil and filter. The oil filter was seized solid. I had to remove the O/S road wheel and plastic wheel arch trim to get better access. Had to use the oil filter cup removal tool with a breaker bar.

  4. Like you say, find the leak first. Most likely to be one of the metal brake pipes or flexible brake hose rather than the caliper.

Brake pipes can last around 10 - 12 years before certain ones will need replacement. Bear in mind your car is around 14 years old.

I got my road tax reminder this week & it says in red writing that tax on hybrid & ev cars will be going up in 2025.

I received my reminder yesterday and unless yours is different to mine, the red writing actually says - From 1 April 2025, vehicle tax rates will change for electric vehicles and low emissions cars.

Link to the Gov UK info on this - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/vehicle-tax-for-electric-and-low-emissions-vehicles#:~:text=From 1 April 2025%2C drivers, pay a fairer tax contribution.

  6. I was on a call to Lexus (Glasgow) yesterday as when I enter my registration on the Lexus Vehicle Safety Recall Checker, it states -

We have identified that your Lexus is subject to a voluntary customer service campaign or outstanding safety recall.

The service manager checked and told me there was no recall on my car. I asked about protection plates for the UX but he had no information on when, or even an estimation of when this would be.

Try your registration through the checker - https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/about-my-lexus/vehicle-recall

a basic expectation is that the damned thing comes with a real life, non virtual, pick it up and thumb through it handbook.

Maybe this is your expectation but please take into account that many people don't want the paper version and instead, prefer to use an online / downloadable solution. Another part of the reason manufacturers don't provide paper manuals anymore is because people don't wan't to clutter their home / car. After all, I personally feel there are better things to store in the glove box than a 700 page manual.

In any case, enjoy your new car and I hope you master the functions on your sat nav.

  8. As mentioned I don't believe it's all about making things 'cheaper' for Lexus, or indeed the vast majority of global car manufacturers. Having the manuals online means it can be edited without having to print new manuals every time there is a change.

It's also more to do with policies relating to sustainability and being more environmentally friendly. After all, Lexus (and Toyota) are producing high quality hybrid and electric vehicles that are very fuel efficient. Does it not make sense to reduce deforestation by not including very large paper copies of their manuals?

Think about your car service record too. This can be accessed easily online and again saves wasting paper. It's the same with the M.O.T history, all documented online.

You can also download the manuals on your electronic device so that you don't need to rely on a signal.
