  1. I've found with my previous car(s) that an application of this stuff to the rubber door seals helps in the frosty weather
  2. "Timing belt replaced" - isn't it a chain on these? Ad also says "if I get the asking price of £3999 I will sell or won’t" - eh???
  3. Are these the people you were able to contact, but couldn't help? http://www.lex-tekautos.com/
  4. Job done this morning. Took 1 hour all in for both diff & autobox. Diff oil looked almost new and no metal particles on the magnetic drain plug, the autobox fluid was very dark compared to the new 'red' stuff, but maybe that's just how it gets after nearly 80k miles?? Total cost of £202 inc VAT. Too soon to say if I notice any difference as I only drove the mile back from the garage to my house - so watch this space. As I said, oil's cheap for what it does. Got under the car for the first time since buying while it was on the ramp and all looks good with no nasty, rusty/knackered bits to be seen.
  5. Car is booked into garage for next Thursday morning for a drain & fill of gearbox plus change oil in differential. Will report if I notice any difference. Oil/fluid is cheap for what it does.
  6. Many thanks, really appreciate the instructions - it'll have to wait another attempt at cleaning [Brasso etc] and better weather to make an attempt.
  7. Having been diagnosed with enlarged prostate in my mid/late forties I was on tablets for many years until It got to the level of having to pee 6 > 7 times a night. Eventually I was put on the waiting list for surgery - no cancer present. Seventeen months later after making a bit of a nuisance of myself I had 'prostate reduction' surgery. A couple of weeks with a catheter and all is good again.
  8. My camera is, to say the least 'hazy' when R is selected. I'll try giving the lens a clean with Duxsback or similar but realistically how easy is it to swap out the camera for a replacement?
  9. Snap!! The 2nd office/branch I was transferred to 6 months after joining was a 2-man one, the Manager and me. There wasn't even an adding machine, you had to list all the account balances once a week by hand and add them up in your head to agree that the books balanced. Changed days indeed......
  10. All well and good, but their nearest fitting garage to me involves a 45 mile round trip - with fuel currently at £1.57 per litre you're looking at a couple of gallons.....
  11. I have in the past run both Nexen and Falken tyres on a variety of BMW models and found them 'adequate', given that they were regarded as mid-range.That said, I live where the nearest motorway is c 150 miles away and drive like I'm not in a race - NOT suggesting you do]. Garages here charge c £20>30 for 'customer supplied' tyres, in fact some refuse to fit either tyres or parts not bought from them, as there is the disposal fee to cover and the possibility of liability if there's e.g. a crash and they're found to have fitted defective parts supplied by the customer. Life used to be simple.....
  12. I'm very much an amateur who can melt metal and get it to stick together [I def wouldn't refer to myself as a welder] but I thought some of their welding was poor, and given it was to be subject to stress in use, I'd not have passed it out as 'acceptable'.
  13. Thanks, that looks very informative, I'll view it in full and digest his recommendations. My initial intent was to change it + filter like I did with the manual box & diff, but I've read anecdotal on my old forum that it can cause problems [which he seems to confirm]. Really appreciate the input, lads -I don't want to create problems where they didn't didn't exist.
  14. Hi folks, another question because I'm fairly new to the marque, having come a succession of BMWs [I know, I know..] My IS250 which I bought in the Spring of this year at 78k miles has the auto box. Not having had a car with auto for at least 4 decades I'm unfamiliar with the service requirements - I just know that. although my BMW e60 530i SE was manual, other owners poo-poo'd the manufacturers claim that it was "Sealed for Life" which presumably meant in the order of 10 years or 100k miles? In the past when changing cars, I've always made a point of having the g/box and diff oils changed [engine oil I do myself] so I know what I've got and oil's cheap for what it does. I'd welcome the Collective's opinion on whether to have these changed, as I've little knowledge of automatics - just that the technology has progressed by leaps & bounds since I last had one. Apologies for the request, just hoping to get a consensus on whether this is an unnecessary waste of money?
  15. Wasn't Vintage Voltage, was it?
  16. Yes, my comment was re the subject changes in the thread, not the various disagreements in the diversions in the original topic.
  17. I started back reading this thread, but it seems to have morphed into one covering striking healthcare workers and education somewhere along the way/pages?
  18. Geese droppings are among the worse for marking, and you need to be very careful when removing them as they contain grit.
  19. I'm hoping someone here can confirm if this CD will be compatible with my 2008 250SE-L and allow me access to more recent maps/data. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165154121474 . I appreciate it's probably a copy [since the Seller has a few for sale]. I've emailed him as suggested in the listing but am waiting to see if he responds. The reason for updating is I tried to input an address to 'Destinations' but, the property being a recent build, it refused to recognise it. In the past I've used a TomTom for navigation but would prefer to use the in-car equipment. I've watched the YouTube videos on how to swap out the disc and it looks very simple, the current disc [according to the head unit] reads "07-08 Ver.1 West". This seems to cover most of Europe inc the UK and would do me fine. I appreciate some say it's a pretty useless system as installed but I don't want to resort to a stand-alone 3rd party marque of my smartphone. Thanks in advance, and if anyone has a redundant, more recent disc than mine which'll do as an update......
  20. Congratulations on the ticket - always a relief! Someone here recommended a product called Duxback headlight restorer which I bought [ex Amazon iirc]. Follow the instructions and it 'does what it says on the tin'.
  21. No shortage of water up here at the moment, it can rain for days on end - like the forecast for the whole of next week.
  22. This last week I washed, clayed [using a mitt, less chance of dropping the bar on the ground and having to bin it ], then gave her a quick coat with AS Topaz. No pics yet as been busy with more pressing stuff. Topaz lasts quite well, but the 250 really needs a machine polish and a going over with a proper lsp. Next spring, maybe....
