  1. @Ahmed. I like what you've done. Can I ask how these mods/upgrades affect your insurance cover/premium?
  2. I updated my 2008 with a [iirc] a 2019 one, the original one being from 2007>2008. I don't think the 'old' system will accept anything newer. It's obviously not bang up-to-date, but shows addresses added between the two dates. Easy enough to do following the guides here or online.
  3. Update: Had the new screen fitted yesterday, a date chosen to coincide with my latest hospital visit. All good and the chap at the Auto Windscreens place couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Warranted against screen or fitting defects for as long as I own the car, apparently. As an aside, the Struie road which has been closed for nearly 2 months is now open again. On the way south, I came of a downhill section with wide open sweeping curves and spotted a squad of m/bikes heading up in the opposite direction. On one left hand one I encountered a bike on my side of the road, right in the middle. They were well spaced so he couldn't have been trying to catch up with his mates, just inattention I suspect - I think they were foreigners. I can attest that the brakes and steering on the Lexus are spot on, don't know who got the bigger scare, him or me. I suspect his underwear was in a worse state than mine, though. No video clip or screenshots, as the dash-cam was at home, me having removed it from the old screen ahead of the replacement..... Further down on the A9, I passed a string of McLaren P1s heading in the other direction, all of the colours too. I made it a total of c 24 - looked to be heading for the NC500 route. Looks like the silly season is underway already.....
  4. Update on windscreen replacement. Was told new screen was damaged so Wed appointment postponed until tomorrow [at depot, not 'on-site'] afternoon. Called to get time and was told 3 pm. All fine, suited me. Then 5 minutes later I got a call to be told that 2nd screen [from a different supplier] had been damaged also. I'm not sure who's "damaging" these screens - if at suppliers or the local depot. Now booked for 23rd of this month. Mhhhh......watch this space.
  5. Hi all, took advantage of the good Easter weather today and swapped out the disc in the IS250. Fairly easy and all working as it should. The replacement disc is 2017-2018[?], afaik the latest version the 250'll accept. [?] This is the one which came out, probably the original version from build date of the car...?
  6. ^^ No idea, but I'll check when the fitter arrives - to be honest I have been aware of the "exterior clips" until they were mentioned here.
  7. Appreciate all the expressions of sympathy and sound advice, replacement booked with Auto Windshields for 10th April which was the first available date. They're the approved repairer for the Insurance, it being included in my Comprehensive cover subject to the excess as outlined above. I appreciate it won't be a Lexus screen but will have to be by a good manufacturer like Pilkington. Done on site so I'll be watching like a hawk, and subsequently checking for water ingress and wind noise. Here's a pic of the damage, the one to the left isn't as visible as the major one to the right [I have NO idea who the random chap tying his lace is.... ]
  8. On the way back from my usual hospital clinic [when things weren't as efficient as they usually are] today, I noticed that there are TWO cracks radiating from the bottom of the windscreen which, although not YET MOT fails, will only spread. I suspect they happened on a stretch of carriageway which is currently being resurfaced with ramps at the beginning and end of the roadworks where the limit is currently 30 mph. Can't prove it was there though, as they aren't seen from the driver's seat until the light hits them at a certain angle..... My concern is it's a bonded windscreen with rain sensor - I'll be watching/carefully checking during and after replacement. I'm assuming it won't be a genuine Lexus screen but an 'aftermarket' one by a reputable manufacturer. No pics as it's dark out now. That'll be £100 excess on my policy, then. Oh well, it's only money.... Bad day all round really.
  9. AC filter replaced, took prob less than 10 minutes. The old filter was really grubby-looking, so was def needing replacement. Thanks for the helpful posts. I'm slowly beginning to get to grips with the car, next job is to replace the reversing light[s] bulbs with LEDs to improve night-time backing up - and maybe the on-screen camera view when doing so.
  10. Today I replaced the air filter on the 250, quite straightforward [thank you, YouTube] once you remove the engine bay covers....seems like there are acres of them. Old one wasn't too bad, allegedly replaced just before I got her almost a year ago. I've ordered a cabin AC filter which looks even easier. Both replacements by Bosch, so should be decent quality [although everything now is made in China....].
  11. Thanks anyway. Anyone else on here have them? Worth a punt in asking....
  12. Well, the 250 passed its first MOT in my possession today with no advisories, so I'm a happy bunny! Got the garage to change the filter and oil [supplied by me] while she was up in the air, I'm getting too old to be lying in the road under cars now....
  13. Just where the cill meets the rear wheel arch. I think they're covers for the rear jacking points.
  14. @Linas.P Would you happen to have both rear cill covers available, please? Both of mine are missing, or at least one fell off and got run over. This is what I need for both sides, I've looked for part numbers but the only numbers on them I can see seem to relate to parts for a Ford Transit....
  15. They'd probably have been issued with a crime number.....
  16. I carry a tape measure in the car....just in case. That way I can submit pics of the size & depth of the pothole.
  17. Many thanks. Something to think about in the better weather.
  18. I'm pretty sure my 2008 SE-L has the original satnav disc in it, would changing it for one from [say]2018/9 > 2020 be sufficient to get the updates to that year be OK? I did some reading and put off doing so for fear of 'bricking' the head unit which I understood could happen?
  19. Thanks. Finally I got enough mojo summoned and weather without snow/rain & gales/frost coinciding to give this some attention. Played a hair-dryer on the camera for a good while and there was some improvement in what could be seen on the screen, but then a baltic wind got up so I had to stop. Gives me hope that another session or two might fix the problem and save dismantling the boot lid to access and replace the camera. Time will tell..... Appreciate to responses, lads.
  20. @Maxz Good a solution as the ramps detailed might be, be careful if you need to place/fix them to the pavement outside your property. The LA might take a dim view, as might any pedestrians who happen to trip over them. Just saying....
  21. This thread on another forum I frequent is worth a read - settle down with a flask of coffee though....https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/ford-focus-v8.93443/
  22. Looking for a bit of advice/to share the experience of others on this one. My reversing has, over a period of 8 months or so become hazy/cloudy as per the pic below [and, yes I know the clocks aren't in sync....] It wasn't this poor when I got the car in the spring. I've cleaned the lens but not yet [weather and no garage/cover etc] tried anything like compounding/polishing to see if that'd help - I'm not even sure if the lens is plastic or glass - more likely the former though, I suspect. As insurance, I took the chance to buy an original one from eBay, so I can replace the present one if necessary..... when the weather improves in Spring. I'd rather try to resolve the 'fog' on the screen without dismantling the boot trim for access if possible. I should add that the rest of the dash display is crystal clear, unlike my pic(s), so it's not likely to be condensation in the unit. Anyone with similar experience, I'd be pleased to know how you resolved it.
  23. This might give the/an answer, but it's by no means the definitive source. https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/browse/lexus/lexus_lc_500
  24. Have you read the small print? In my experience these after-market warranties sometimes/often aren't worth the paper they're written on.
