  1. That's my understanding too Ken. I read that this is because Lexus implemented Toyota Security Key (TSK) a unique encrypted key which the ECU's require before executing any CAN commands. This means that the physical key has to be present. However we don't know when or if the criminal fraternity will overcome it. It doesn't stop the scum doing damage to the wheel arch and bumper finding out though.
  2. I thought I was hard done by.....my last year's premium for my 450h was £530. I've run a few exploratory quotes on comparison sites (my actual renewal is a few months away) and the cheapest I found was over £900 😒
  3. So they can tax us more. If they didn't tax it here they would just implement a tax elsewhere to make up the numbers.
  4. AFAIK it's always been 20 minutes for me
  5. So they can keep the OTR prices down a bit
  6. Do you mean Lexus Link+ ?
  7. Ken....I've been very pleased to see 40+ actual miles on a full charge in the last couple of weeks of milder weather. Achieved on shortish urban trips of 5-10 miles at speeds only up to 45MPH.
  8. Wow!....do you live in central London?
  9. Sean....purely a personal opinion but I don't find the USB cable an issue at all....I certainly wouldn't spend money on a wireless solution. Keeps my phone well charged on a long journey too.
  10. No it's not a Lexus part and as Ken says above plenty available on Amazon and eBay also. Fortunately as the port isn't particularly large there are a lot of options.
  11. I reckon as it's not a recall the dealership gets less favourable remuneration for the work. I may be wrong of course.
  12. Ken I use a charging port cover every time I charge the car and it seems to avoid any ice build up in sub zero conditions and keeps it dry should it rain.
  13. An RX450h owner on their forum just received this email from LV instead of his renewal quote : "Over the past year, there’s been a rise in thefts of the LEXUS RX 450H F SPORT AUTO. As a result, we’ve seen a large increase in the number and cost of claims we’ve received for these types of vehicles and have made the difficult decision to stop insuring them." Maybe that's why Aviva and DL wouldn't quote for my NX although still renewing existing policy holders?
  14. There would be damage to the nearside front wheel arch and possibly bumper if a canbus attack. We are fairly sure that the NG NX 2022 onwards is not susceptible to canbus due to using the Toyota Security Key (TSK), however we have contradictory claims about earlier NX models (which don't have TSK) and Lexus will not make any definitive statements on the issue. Most NX models can be vulnerable to key cloning, but we know of ways to avoid that threat. Even without a faraday pouch it's possible to temporarily turn off the signal from our keys to avoid this.
  15. Simon.....do you know if your vehicle was stolen by a can bus attack on the nearside front wheel arch?
  16. John....I believe m/kwh is the best way of measuring efficiency. Whilst it doesn't directly give you actual miles, we know that a full traction battery has roughly 13kwh of usable power. So multiplying trip m/kWh by 13 gives a good indication of actual miles. The range of the NX from Lexus is in excess of 40 miles, plus all the usual caveats of how it's driven, conditions etc. Various independent reviews have backed that up, some getting a lot more than that in favourable conditions. Before this current milder spell I was getting about 2.7 m/kWh though last night on a 10 mile return trip I saw 3.3 m/kWh which shows how variable it is depending on conditions. 2.7 m/kWh is roughly 35 miles and 3.3 about 43 miles.
  17. Found that button to be extremely temperamental. Thought I had it cracked but unfortunately no.
  18. Being a 70+ year old driver is bad news. Although this article is from last September it's even more relevant now. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-12536869/Over-70s-drivers-worst-hit-insurance-price-hikes-make-fewer-claims.html
  19. Aviva and Direct Line declined to quote me without explanation too. I have max no claims and zero incidents. I'm currently with LV and it looks like I'll be facing something like a 70% increase when I have to renew in a few months. My postcode is not in a high risk area either. from Aviva
  20. Ronnie ... wouldn't even quote me on my NX450.....max no claims....no accidents last 5 years....many other quotes from other insurers....same with direct line ☹️... difficult to fathom
  21. Looking on the Carista website it works for Gen 1 and 2 NX, there are just fewer adjustments available for the latter. Carista would have always been aware of the TSK change to Gen 2
  22. It's software per se but due to the fact that Lexus hasn't rolled out a s/w update to affected vehicles suggests it's a system architectural issue that can't be retrofitted to other vehicles. Hence the wheel arch plates.
