but the ES seemed to lumber, and the top speed only 112mph seemed to be a mental barrier

I had exactly the same thoughts. Was I making a mistake by trading in my BMW 530e for a slower car. Took the plunge and purchased it from Lexus Cheltenham (friendly bunch) and not disappointed. I use it in Eco mode all the time but when I select Normal mode the Battery kicks in and you fly by the slow movers. Same for the motorways. It will fly up to 90+ if you want to with ease. Something I wasn't sure it would do. I'm not likely to ever do 112 mph. Fuel consumption is amazing up against the BMW. When it's Battery ran out the fuel consumption rocketed downwards. A trip out yesterday in the ES resulted in 69 mpg.

ohhh... what a hero we have here! Now you going to cling on one single point (from literally 100s I made) where I may have been wrong to prove your point!

Great - I concede, you proven one of my points wrong... 99 to go!

I even give you a little treat, throw you "a bone" let's say... it doesn't go 0-60 in 5.1s either... it is actually 5.9s! I can hear a little Toyota ES owner gremlin screaming "hang and quarter!"

We again getting into fallacies territory - faulty generalisation types to be specific. So you now implying that I am always wrong, because I was wrong in one (or two) cases. And as well you cherry-picking... you can't defeat my argument as a whole, so you picked on what little wrong there is and you pretend to be victorious! Well done to you!

Isn't that a little bit lazy?

I have come to conclusion you have a problem somewhere as you rantings on here are not normal. You seem so desperate to be right about everything. I really can't be bothered to discuss anything with you. Carry on believing the rubbish you spout.

Last time I checked BMW 530e is as well plug-in hybrid, lower tax, ULEZ and congestion charge exempt and has 0-60 in 5.1s ,as well it is RWD and rather fun to drive if you wanted to?!

I've just checked, and the 530e is not exempt from the congestion charge. (I looked up a used example on the BMW Approved site, and put the reg number into the TfL website

You're right the 530e is not exempt from the congestion charge and never has been. It is ULEZ free only. But remember Linas.P is an expert.

your opinion is no more valuable than mine because you own something.

I'm not the one making ridiculous comparisons between Lexus or BMW or offering any opinions. You really need to find something else to do. What an utter load of nonsense.

That I don't own either ES, nor competitor allows me to more objective and less biased. In short I have no stake in it so I don't care who wins and who loses - that is objectivity for you.

No it means you don't know what you are talking about. Your comments are just your opinion, which is fine, but that's all it is. I don't know why you think you are an expert on car reviews. While you may find the ES inferior to a BMW even though by your own admission have never owned one means I take what you say with a pinch of salt. There are a number of reason why I traded in the my BMW (which I bought from new) after only doing 10k in it. I did plenty of research on other cars including the Jag XF before making my choice of the ES and I will see if my choice was correct as I get to use it.  I really don't know why you are on a Lexus Owners site slagging off the products?

just sit in 5-Series and ES and it is obvious right away - it stands no chance against BMW 5-Series

Sorry disagree. I have just come from a 2020 BMW 530e and also own an E Class 220CDI and the ES is far superior to both of them. I have had E Class's for 14 years now.

  7. I'm baffled as to why there are not more ES's on the road. It must be one of Lexus's best kept secret. You seldom see them promote it other than maybe FB. The main problem in my area is there are no local dealers. For me it's either Reading or Milton Keynes both of which are nowhere near Oxford. The one I wanted came from Cheltenham. MK will be the chosen service option but in this area I never see a Lexus ES and very few SUV's. Having had Merc's for years this is my first venture with a Lexus and I am very pleased with it so far. Bargain price for a lot of car.

  8. Thanks for the reply. Mine doesn't have the ML sound system just a standard audio output. I have looked under Sound & Media settings but nothing there for Bass,Treble or Balance. Very odd. I guess I will have to speak to Lexus dealership I got it from and see what they say. Even the basic of cars these days have Bass & Treble settings.

  9. Recently bought a new ES300H and it has no Bass or Treble settings for the audio. Is this normal for the standard version? Can find nothing in the display settings. Never come across this option missing in any other car I have had before. Any advice?

Yes I have the same car on 17" wheels and it's not brilliant on cabin noise but quieter than the ES. I have been spoiled with the BMW which is far superior to both on road noise. The bigger the wheels the worse the road / cabin noise gets as the tyres head towards low profile. I have a Saab 9-5 on 16" wheels and that rides and sounds like a Rolls Royce inside. I test drove a Jag XF on 20" wheels and you could hardly have a conversation on certain roads surfaces.  For me big wheels and tyres are not for me as I like a quiet cabin these days.😁

it's a much cheaper car overall compared to a 5 or E class

That maybe the reason. I have had E Classes since 2008 and the BMW up until a few weeks ago. You get what you pay for I guess and cabin sound insulation is not part of it. I chose the ES as I was sick of plugging in the 530e and it was claimed it has great soundproofing but not the case. The positives are that it was under the £40k road tax liabilty and the MPG reports were great.

Compared to a BMW what? 7 series.

No 530e with 17" wheels. To be honest had I not taken a punt on the Hankook's that have helped with the cabin noise the car was going to be sent back as it was purchased new.

It depends on what you are comparing the ES against.

530e's with 17" wheels are exceptionally quiet at motorway speeds whereas now with slightly less cabin noise I now get the the wind noise that has been reported on the ES. Can't really win with it. 😄 Next time it will be back to a BMW or Merc and that maybe sooner rather than later. It's a shame as the car itself is really nice in all other aspects.

Therefore the selling dealer must have been told and aware of the shortage BEFORE delivery to the premises, and as already said they should have informed you [the purchaser] of this shortage BEFORE any funds and signatures are collected.

I was not made aware of no second key fob until it was all signed and paid for they then gave me the box with one key and fob plus a spade key. I asked where was the other key fob and was told they were in short supply. I have never bought a car before without two key fobs but then this is my first venture in to a Lexus. But after that confusion about who was to supply it as in my post.

  14. Still waiting for my second key fob for my new 300H. Major confusion about who is supposed to supply it. First was told that Lexus would send it to me direct. Rang Lexus direct and they said no they don't, it's the dealer who has to order it and you have to go back to the dealer to have it programmed to the car. Dealer I bought from is 65 miles away. Then they said the local dealer can order it. So now the localish dealer have supposedly ordered it and will come in to them on July 14th. Farcical really.

    Did you feel any difference?

It's just more noticeable with these tyres that the bumps in the road have a harder feel to them on the same stretches of road. Tyre pressures are the same as previous tyres. The ride on the Dunlops were softer. But at least the cabin is quieter.

I hope you come back on here with your findings, good luck with the swap.

Hi Neil, Have now got the new Hankooks on and yes it has made the cabin / road noise far less. In fact you can now hear the wind noise on motorways whereas before I couldn't. I would say the ride is slightly harder as the tyre walls are stronger for the EV's that use them. What I have noticed is the MPG. I was getting around 53mpg as I ride it around in Eco mode but today on a long run I was getting 64 mpg which seems over the top but the car display said that as did the app. These tyres are supposed to reduce the rolling resistance hence greater MPG. Could be that it's just a hot day but I would say I am pleased I have changed them. Now have four new Dunlops to get rid of.

As for road noise, I can't comment as I have nothing to compare it to. However it doesn't seem unduly noisy.

I'm comparing it with the BMW 530e I traded in which was on 17"wheels and my E Class which is also on 17" wheels. Both far quieter on motorway speeds than the ES.

So the Hankook tyre is rated at 3db less than Maxx 050. On the db scale that equates to a 50% reduction if I've understood it correctly. I hope you come back on here with your findings, good luck with the swap.

Thanks. Yes I will let you know after Tuesday when they are being fitted. According to Hankook the db levels are for the noise that is generated as a car passes by. A lower level is a good start but it will still depend on how well the ES is insulated in general as to whether this will resolve the issue.  I'm hoping that it will make the cabin noise acceptable.

Can I ask what you are putting on?

Yes after talking with both Michelin & Hankook technical I have decide to go with these. They are for EV's and according to Hankook work well on hybrids as well. Michelin do E-Primacy Acoustic but don't have stock. Really taking a punt and if they don't help then the car will go back. My previous car a BMW was far quieter. Love the ES but not the motorway noise. https://www.hankooktire.com/uk/en/tire/ion/evo.html
