  2. Well actually I can contextualise that perfectly. On the same forecourt there was a 2011 VW Passat 2.0tdi with 130k and it was £3.25k. Those were the only two comparable diesels. And my Lexus was mint, the Passat average to good.

  4. Also it was clear to me after a month or two of joining this forum that as with anything in life, many contributors have an agenda, especially the anti-diesel/ environmentalists. If you search diesel/dpf/egr or anything akin to that and trawl through the previous posts you'll see the same names pop up time and time again, basically saying the same thing over and over again, that diesels are universally bad and you're an idiot for buying one
  5. I couldn't agree more. I bought a 06 IS220D in Feb with c.30k miles on the clock. I then proceeded to read the horror stories on here about how bad they were, having owned various diesels before (Mondeo, X-Type, 3 Series) I started to panic that I'd made a mistake, but fast forward 7 months and 24k miles later and the Lexus has been absolutely faultless, better than any previous diesel I've had, 3 services in, no gremlins, no trouble, averaging 46.6mpg across that 24k miles too with a 70/30% split of extra urban/urban. Yes the gearbox is agricultural and ratios too long, but they're easily driven around. Diesel cars need to be meticulously maintained (prevention rather than cure) and used for their intended purpose (long continuous journeys) I can only think that all the horror story contributors on here either were severely unlucky, didn't use their diesels as intended, instead only doing small journeys or simply neglected their cars. I must have spoken to half a dozen IS220D owners in person since I bought mine and the same amount of people on this forum and everyone of them was/is over the moon with their Is220d, the only common denominator I could ascertain was they were all used predominantly for long journeys and preventative maintenance was definitely part of all their MO's.
  6. Post amended (because I can't edit) with the omission of a quote from a tuning company pertaining to DPF removal. Thanks @steve2006for the heads up. So after completing 6k miles since having the car serviced, I decided to switch engine oil from Quantum 5w30 to Millers Nanodrive 0w40. An oil I've used many times before in both petrol and diesel engines. As well as using Oilsyn Release-Tech engine flush. Since said change, I've completed approx 500 miles (450 motorway miles) and I have to say I've noticed a remarkable difference in smoothness and a huge uplift in mpg, the car also seems to start instantly, whereas before it would labour very minorly. Previously I was averaging 53-54mpg on motorways with a tank average of approx 49-50mpg and a full range of around 530 miles per tank, but on this most recent tank I averaged 57.5mpg across the 500 miles and full range is now 580 miles. Obviously a huge improvement and with driving c.800 miles a week, I stand to save around £15 a week. I will report back the tank average on a more indicative week where I would expect to do 70/30 extra urban/urban. On another note, I've noticed a couple of minor flatspots in 4th and 5th gear, which my existing mapper can't iron out, blaming it on the DPF, so I've booked the car into Japanese tuning specialist in Plymouth, for a custom dyno map, they say they will be able to fix the issue easily enough and will inspect the DPF too to make sure that's not the issue.

The tuner I spoke to explained that a properly maintained car without DPF/EGR will in all cases be less emissive than a poorly maintained car with a DPF/EGR and infinitely more reliable, he said "I've seen it with my own eyes on hundreds, if not thousands of examples, all you've got to do is stick an emissions analyser probe in the tailpipe and you can see for yourself. The reason DPF's came about was to mitigate all the diesels that aren't used for their intended purpose or aren't properly maintained"

  13. Hi y'all Can anyone shed any light on a fuel filter seized on an IS220D? Apparently I have one that is seized and trying to remove risks breaking the housing. Can the filter and housing be sourced with ease and is it costly? Thanks in advance

  17. Can anyone shed any light on fuel filters being seized? I've just spoken to my garage today and they explained there are two fuel filters and one of them was seized so unable to extract without potential breaking the housing. Does anyone know if this part is easily sourced and whether or not it is costly? Many thanks Miles
  18. I should add this figure was achieved whilst in 5th gear maintaining a speed of 66mph.
  19. Today I embarked on a 130 mile motorway journey as my quest for the best mpg continues. Before setting off, I filled up from empty with Texaco. The end result was very surprising, I averaged 53.9mpg across the entire journey. I can't be sure if this increase was a result of different fuel or whether it was that my ECU took longer than quoted 500 miles to learn its new map. One things for sure, it wasn't a change in driving style. I'm pretty sure this wasn't an anomaly and as as such am really happy with the figure. If I can maintain 50mpg+ on the motorway, I'll be well and truly pleased and it will fall in line with previous similarly sized diesels I've had before. Loving getting to know and understand my first Lexus.

  21. Hi James Yes I am rather enjoying the IS220D, its been faultless for 1500 miles thus far and as you say with such low mileage, should serve me well. I really like your SE in Burgundy, a very underrated colour I feel. And yes I agree wholeheartedly the build quality is something to behold. All the best

  23. I would personally call them, explain that you know the fifth injector is a generic problem with IS220D'S and what can/will they do about it? What's the worst that can happen.
  24. Well that's fair enough my friend. Fingers crossed Ar6400 settles it down, if not then as you say maybe a fifth injector replacement. Have you tried contacting Lexus to see if they can help? Apparently there was a fix for this issue, a modified part I assume.
