Yes they're genuine. The part nos are the same + they're made by the same company (pacific industial co). Perhaps toyota sells them cheaper for their budget cars. I have never used techstream but im pretty sure you can indeed program them using techstream if the shop cant do it.

If one has failed it is likely that the others are of a similar age meaning theyre on their way out as well. My recommendation would be replace all 4 sensors when changing your tyres. You can buy the sensors yourself on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314744520503 Its much cheaper than lexus charging £70+ per sensor. Then most reputable tyre shops should be able to fit and program it for you when you change your tyres. Perhaps just google tyre shops near you can find the ones with the most positive reviews. Call them before scheduling an appointment to check if they can program new original tpms sensors that you will be supplying.

Thats a good shout. Will look into RAV4. Also not clear what you mean by newer engined is300h? As far as I am aware the engine on the IS300H has remained the same since launch until it was discontinued. One of the reasons i have held on to the IS is i love the way it drives. My heart wants to upgrade to a GS450H but the head says i need to succumb and get an SUV / crossover.
-
Its because most of the world is moving to SUVs and crossovers. While they are relatively more expensive to run they are more practical for daily family life. They also end up being more comfortable. The demand for sedans is very limited in todays market with mostly people looking for a sportier edge going with them and even those people mainly buy a german brand. Which is why even lexus have only 1 sedan offering and they even changed their entry level car from the CT to the LBX and previously the UX all crossovers. I have an IS300H and as my kid grows and i turn older i keep finding it harder to get her into the car seat because of how low the car is. I suspect i will need to start looking at buying an NX soon too. Im just a bit worried about all the lexus thefts that have been going on lately. Hopefully there will be a solution soon.

100% agree with this. Pricing is one thing. Even the terms of insurance are also so heavily lopsided....just so that they can force us to declare stupid things like stickers, spoilers etc. to raise prices further or get out of paying when the time comes. If our policy makers truly had public interest at heart and were not lobbied by the insurance cartel we would have a system like australia where the basic mandatory 3rd party insurance is covered as part of the annual VED. Truth is we live in a corporatocracy and nobody cares about the common people. Were just consumers to them. Also china might be communist in their political outlook but their economic system has a role for private capital and is very exploitative of its labour which are clear capitalistic traits.

Repairing door arm rest
Notamech replied to wharfhouse's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Yeah that could work. The only issue is that the colour of the trim is some shade of grey and not black so its hard to match it. -
Repairing door arm rest
Notamech replied to wharfhouse's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I sort of did...not the armrest exactly. But just above the armrest, i managed to burn a hole in the fake leather of the door card(same material as the armrest) when trying to take out a scratch with a heat gun. You can use specialised leather glue you get online which is flexible. You also get patch kits where you put the patch on the underside of the cut making it less visible.Or like you say you could use superglue and tape. All of which will be visible. Short of having it re-upholstered or professionally fixed none of the DIY solutions will be perfect. In my case i bough 2 small lexus logos (the epoxy gel type) and stuck it over the hole to cover it. I put one on the other door card as well just to give the car an even look. But in your case i think superglue would be good to help prevent the tear from spreading then put a cool sticker or vinyl over it to make it invisible. -
As stated above this sounds like the vvti actuator rattle. Common on most toyotas of that generation. The only real fix is a new vvti actuator. For a lot of engines toyota updated the part at some point. Its not worth fixing on most old cars. You can ignore it. By the time any meaningful damage is done the car will probably be at the end of its life anyway. Here's some more info

5 years with the IS 300h
Notamech replied to TomLC500h's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Gives a whole new meaning to regenerative braking 😂 -
I agree. The forum is rife with peoples batteries dying too often that too on brand new cars like the LBX, NX, Yaris etc. I feel like Toyota has had enough time and experience to learn that these batteries die within just a few weeks of no use. I feel like they should have updated the batteries accordingly. Also im not very familiar with battery chemistry but it seems like these newer AGM batteries are to be thrown away when they fail. I remember when lead acid batteries would last virtually forever with people using old school high voltage chargers to just boil off the sulphation. Add distilled water and its good as new.
-
While you are right you do need an AGM battery for start stop vehicles yours is a hybrid not a conventional start stop vehicle. The 12V battery is only used to boot or power up the computer. From that point on all battery needs are handled by the traction battery. Your engine starts are done by MotorGenerator1 in the gearbox which runs only on the traction battery. My advice to people looking to get a new 12v battery would be to avoid the genuine battery if your usage is not high. Theyre too small and fail too frequently if usage is low. But if your usage is high you should be fine with the original battery they do last long if the car is used regularly.

Lower Mileage Older IS300h
Notamech replied to TheModiesel's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Yes the waterpump can be an issue on older cars. I had mine replaced too so check to see for pink crust around the waterpump. Its easy to spot its the only thing that is belt driven. If the car you are buying was serviced by lexus within the last 1 year it should have the relax warranty and should be covered. Just so you know lexus offer 1 year or 10k miles of warrany for up to 10 years or 100k as long as you service your car annually with lexus. -
Help with paint coming off
Notamech replied to DarkKnight's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I agree with the above. Official paints tend to be of a higher quality. While the aftermarket ones do do the job as well the end finish is much better with the official one. I didn't try the lexus one yet but have used official paints from Mercedes and it was better thickness wise etc. But some after market ones come with a needle which helps with better application vs a brush. Also yes while they dont have an expiry date in my experience the colour becomes darker after a while. Might be down to the fact that i store it in the car and the heat from the sun etc denature it in some way. So maybe dont do that. -
Lower Mileage Older IS300h
Notamech replied to TheModiesel's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
The battery warranty is for up to 15 years and unlimited mileage as long as you get an annual hybrid health check at lexus. This costs around £50 or 60 and is free / included in the cost of an annual service at Lexus. As long as you clean the hybrid battery fan filter once every few years and dont let your battery overheat it should be extremely reliable. Very few of these batteries fail prematurely. There are many members here on the forum that have 2013 2014 cars havent yet heard of any battery failures yet. Even if they do fail you can opt for an aftermarket reconditioning service which costs £2k or so. Anyway if you buy a 2015 and plan to keep it for 5 years sounds like the battery will be under warranty for that period anyway so you should not have much to worry about. Also if you buy cars pre 2017 the tax is lower only £10/20 depending on the variant. After 2017 its an extortionate £180 or around that. -
Help with paint coming off
Notamech replied to DarkKnight's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Touchup paint is basically a small nailpolish like bottle but you can buy the exact colour for your car by searching for your colour code on ebay. The aftermarket ones are generally paint and lacquer mixed in one and is generally ok for touching up small spots like the ones you have. Lexus also sell official touch up paint with a separate lacquer bottle. Typically you just use the brush or needle in the bottle to dab a little paint to fill the white spot. If done properly touch up paint wont come off with washing and can be almost invisible. -
Lexus 10 Year Plus Extended Warranty
Notamech replied to wharfhouse's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Yes thats my understanding and others on the forum have even got an email confirming the same. Might be best to clarify with them. Mine turns 10 in Nov and i plan on doing the same thing. -
10 year warranty. Mileage slightly over
Notamech replied to Casa1862's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Honestly if you plan on changing your car in the next year or 2 might be worth the gamble. But if you plan to keep it for the next 5 years go original. Else like the saying goes buy cheap buy twice. -

I may be wrong but i think ending 40 is left and 41 is right or vice versa. -
Are you sure the white stuff is mold? Asking because i had a similar issue on my IS300H when i first bought it and it turned out to be a leaking waterpump that splashed coolant all over. Coolant dries to a white powdery substance on black backgrounds. Look inside the engine bay and check to see if you see any pink crusty residue. Either way if its a car you are looking to buy perhaps look elsewhere as water should not be able to get to the isulation under the hood unless is coolant from the engine or someone tried to drive through a large puddle.

Lexus 10 Year Plus Extended Warranty
Notamech replied to wharfhouse's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
On a separate note you can get the 11th year free. E.g if your car was registered on the 15th of Oct 2014 for example. Get it serviced before it is 10 years old so maybe on the 1st of oct and you get 1 year more of service activated relax for the next 10k miles or 1 year. -

Notamech replied to DarkKnight's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Those look like stone chips. Fairly common on all cars in the front. Especially if driven a lot on the motorway. You can buy touch up paint from ebay or lexus and touch them in. I have similar marks on the front bumper they're way too many so i touched up the obvious ones ignored the ones that cant be seen from a distance or that are not on a metal surface -
Got it in that case maybe try carista. Seems to have worked for someone in this thread

You cant delete it with an obd2 scanner. The error pertains to a safety system and is permanently recorded in your airbag ECU. You may find people on ebay willing to reprogram/reset your airbag ecu. But you need to fix the problem first i.e replace your pop up hood struts if theyve deployed or are malfunctioning. If they've deployed you probably need a new hood as well.
