No it was cold. I didn't want to risk opening coolant caps when the engine is hot. I think opening the reservoir bottle released pressure resulting in coolant flowing into it. Might try opening only the coolant bottle and not the radiator cap and run the engine for a bit and see if it get sucked back. I guess this is the procedure they use to fill new coolant as well so hoping it will work.

Hi all i ran into a bit of an issue and was hoping someone could advise. So i opened both the radiator cap (the one where the two black pipes meet) and the reservoir cap to check something. At first when i opened the radiator cap coolant came spilling out and it was filled till the brim with coolant but as soon as i opened the cap of the reservoir bottle the coolant level went down in the black plastic piece and filled up the reservoir. Now i have way too much coolant in the reservoir (almost full bottle) and less in the black plastic where the two black pipes meet. I drove the car and the engine wasnt overheating or anything but just wondering if if this can cause any issues. Also how do i fix this and get the coolant from the reservoir to go back into the black pipes?

Tesla Model 3 Ditched for IS or ES?
Notamech replied to nickb2015's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
The best way to judge would be to trst drive one. But from what i understand the fsport has bigger 18 inch wheels and a stiffer suspension leading to an overall harsh ride. But if a sporty car is what you are after then I think it might work. It has slightly better looks and a better instrument cluster display. If you want all the bells and whistles then the Premier might be one to consider. -
That sound could most likely be the brake pads moving within the calipers. Happens once when you change direction i.e forward vs reverse. If you or the prev owner installed aftermarket brake pads or had brake pads installed from a non lexus garage they probably didn't install them with all the original shims / fitting kit. I have a similar problem on the front wheels. lexus quoted £275 to put shims just on the front. Will probably buy the shims online and get it installed elsewhere.

Insurance testimonials?

I can second this. Customer service is good at LV in the sense that they answer the phone quick not leaving you on hold too long. I haven't had any claims experience. Negative reviews on trustpilot indicate they're just as bad as most others when it comes to claims. I feel like such a massive difference probaby is because for 300 you would be insured on your new car only until the expiry of your existing car policy vs 12 months on the quotes you found online. -

If you read trustpilot all the positive reviews for these companies are around the purchasing process and all negative reviews are around the claims process. So its hard to conclusively say if one is better than another. And from what I understand they all try to wiggle their way out or are slow. Or charge you a fortune to do small things like update your info. So might be best to just go with the cheapest. -
How to remove drive mode selector/knob
Notamech replied to Bartmaster's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Thanks so much guys. Finally did it today. Just popped it out with my nail. It came off quite easily didn't need to struggle or release each clip at a time. There were two pieces that came out one was a silver ring and the other was the cap. All wrapped and now no more ugly scratches. -
Try asking the first few sellers on this link if you havent already and see if they have the stuff you need. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=Lexus+is300h+breaking&_trksid=p2334524.m4084.l1313&_odkw=Lexus+is300h I reckon most totalled cars may have been in a front collision hence lower supply + higher demand.

How to remove drive mode selector/knob
Notamech replied to Bartmaster's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Aah ofcourse. Will try that. I got some fake leather wrap as i managed to damage one of the door panels and plan to do that up. Will try that wrap on the knob and see how it goes. Does the knob pop off easily with the usual plastic trim removal tools?or do i need to pry it off with a really thin screwdriver? The kind they use for watches? -

Looks great. Did you need a heat gun? Or do you just stick it on? In the past if i did it without a heat gun the wrap starts to peel / lift up eventually. -

I would like to know as well if anyone managed to find one. Scoured the internet including ali express but just cant seem to find one. Mine is badly scratched and needs replacement. For now i have temporarily covered it up with a domed gel sticker thats better to look at than a scratched knob. -
Maybe consider a braker in the UK for grill etc. Several on ebay. Also there are several sites where you put in your requirements and breakers reach out with their offers on the said parts.

I had the same issue. When i bought the car they came with bosch aerotwins and they were super noisy. Considered getting the originals but lexus wanted close to £50 so i did a bit of research and it looks like the Denso hybrids are the same as the lexus original so i got those from euro car parts for half the price. They're great no noise anymore.

Good to hear. Maybe I got unlucky during the Christmas rush. -
Aah ok that makes sense then. Here is the colourant. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B008EI81BU?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title Also the process i followed is 1) Used autoglym leather cleaner and wiped down the seats spraying it on a microfiber cloth. Used a toothbrush to remove stuff stuck in the perforated seat holes. Sometimes this is difficult with a brush and the brush only pushes it in further. A vaccum might be a better idea 2) Applied a coat of colourant with a microfibre cloth. Applied a few more times over the chipped parts after each coat dried till it looked like it was no longer visible. Left it for 24 hours and buffed it off with a clean microfibre cloth. Please use gloves. I didn't and my hands looked awful. Fortunately the colourant washed off easily with soap and water. 3) Applied autoglum leather balm with a microfibre cloth. Left overnight and wiped off excess next morning. You need very little of this. I reckon this bottle will last really long. After a few days i noticed a significant improvement in the texture of the 2 front seats which were quite worn before and the leather feels and looks much better now. Will give it another coat of balm after a couple of months. I did all of the above with the steering wheel as well. But that still looks shiny and not matt but like the seats small scratches and chips are all dyed now and not very noticeable.

I had that same concern and wasnt sure whether the leather in the executive variant is real leather or not but even the colourant i used said that it was meant for absorbant leather only but the seats seemed to have absorbed them as some minor chips which were white when i bought the car are now black and are not noticeable so i thought i should use the balm as well to keep the leather / fake leather conditioned and it worked really well. I was surprised to see the leather puff up slightly causing it to look tighter and minor folds and creases have disappeared.

Almost all of my car care products are autoglym as well. They're cheap compared to brands like meguiars and i found them to be equally effective. For the exterior i use spray wax / rapid ceramic and found both to be great and long lasting. Even after several washes. For leather i use the leather cleaner and leather balm. The balm is great and has made my seats almost like new all the creases and folds have slowly disappeard and the seats have a nice matt finish. Also once a year i use a leather colourant from scratch doctor. With black leather i guess its a bit easier as i dont really bother with colour matching and have been fine.

Help confused IS 300H or ES 300H
Notamech replied to goody12's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
No it wasnt me. But I do plan to clean the fan and filter in the summer. Also yes my alignment does feel a bit out. Il be getting new tyres (A rated for fuel consumption) all round in a few months time so will get it all sorted then. Just had a full service last month so assumed they changed the air and cabin filters. Also plan to use the lucas upper cylinder lubricant fuel additive with my next fill. Had good results with fuel economy and smoothness using this in my previous diesel. -

Wow you guys seem to be getting good mileage. Mine is a 2014 with 90k i get around 35-39. But most of my trips are super short 5-10 mile trips. The car came with all weather tyres on the front which im sure don't help either. -
IS300H Impacted by the Canbus theft?
Notamech replied to IS300FSPORT's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Im not very familiar with how the theft actually works but does switching off the smart key functions help at all? We got a flyer from the police in the door saying to beware as thieves are targeting high end cars with the smart entry function by spoofing / boosting the signal from the key and to keep it in a faraday pouch. So i have just switched off these functions and just use the lock unlock buttons on the remote. But sounds like this canbus method is different? Sounds like even newer models are susceptible I have 2 ring cameras constantly monitoring my carpark but have come to realise that cameras are pretty useless as thieves cover up well. -

Doesnt any change in inclination set off the alarm. I thought someone trying to remove the bumper would trigger some or the other sensor and set off the alarm? -
Help confused IS 300H or ES 300H
Notamech replied to goody12's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Thats a very good point you raised about the larger wheels. My IS has 18 inch f sport wheels and they're noticeably harsh. That section on the M25 which is concrete is just too loud and jarring to drive on. -
Help confused IS 300H or ES 300H
Notamech replied to goody12's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Well they're cars from different classes. The IS is more a 3 series / C class type car where as the ES is more a mid size - E class / 5 series type car. Other than the sunroof and sound system i think the decision would largely depend on what you use the car for and what your priorities are. I sold my e class due to ulez expansion and was looking for a lexus hybrid. I knew i didn't want an suv so for my budget my options were the IS or the GS (which i think is now replaced by the ES) but overall similar decision. I test drove both and frankly preferred the GS as the interior was roomy and it was more comfortable etc. But similar to the ES the rear seats didn't fold and the boot had an awkward shape which made storing a childs buggy along with any luggage tricky. In the end i went for an IS as that was at a good price + the looks and storage won me over. Overall for what i use the car for (primarily in the city and school runs etc) it is compact had adequate storage that is flexible and it is easier to park in relatively tight spaces than something like the e class or cars of that segment. But it is not without its flaws e.g its designed to be sporty so the seats are super snug doing anything like stretching over and trying to reach anywhere else in the car e.g. The glovebox etc is a nightmare. Sometimes even trying to take things out of the centre console is super difficult and inconvenient. If i had to do it over i sometimes think the GS would be more comfortable and maybe I should have gone for that. While the IS is adequate as a family car it was designed to be more sporty and is not what you would choose if you prefer wafting along in comfort. Also if you do more highway runs and need the comfort I recommend the roomier more comfortable ES over the sporty snug IS. -
Lexus service experience
Notamech replied to Notamech's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Thanks for sharing. So essentially the service centre is not located on the premises? I thought it was. But sounds like they drive the car to their service centre and bring it back to the showroom. Anyway I echo your experience where they did try to upsell a lot of what looked useless to me e.g. An ac purge apparently they recommend doing this once a year. They also recommend re-gassing the ac once every 2 years i found this really strange as generally my understanding is unless theres a leak the gas should be flushed once every 5-10 years. Also £275 to install brake shims on the front. I do want to get the brake shims done but will probably just buy the original ones and get it done locally. I do have to go back to re-run the hybrid health check as i failed it as the 12v battery was replaced so all the codes got cleared, they've asked me to come back after 500 miles and theyve agreed to do the hybrid health check and the differential oil while i wait. After this i dont plan to use them again.
