High pitch whine noise from LH engine side
Notamech replied to Maxz's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Just so you know. The inverter coolant and engine coolant have completely different water circuits. The pump driven by the belt is the engine coolant pump you check the level of engine coolant by looking at the reservoir bottle on the front above the radiator(red in pic below). The pump making noise from your original post is the inverter coolant pump. This is a plastic electric pump not driven by the belt and is meant to cool the inverter. The level of this coolant can be checked looking at the bottle near the throttle body (blue) So if your engine coolant water pump is leaking that won't reduce the inverter coolant. Also that wont impact draw from the 12v battery as nothing critical runs off the 12v battery. Its only function is to start the car and power the alarm, security system, lights etc. BTW that noise from your original post may not necessarily be the inverter coolant pump and could also be the high pressure fuel pump (for direct injection) building pressure. Anyway good that you caught your warepump leaking. Get it replaced under relax. -
High pitch whine noise from LH engine side
Notamech replied to Maxz's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Yes im pretty sure thats normal. I am not sure what it is exactly but suspect its the inverter pump running. I remember hearing this noise when the car is on but the engine has stopped. But might be worth asking when you visit lexus next just so all of us know what it is. -
Is it possible to make a hole on the original fuse cover to allow the wires to pass but still close it? If so that may be something to consider.

Dashcam Recommendations

Heres another thread that might help with installation. -
Buy they already have other terms and conditions that specifically void your warranty if the car is not used in ways it is meant to e.g racing / towing more than the specified weight etc. Plus there is a mileage limitation + time limitation e.g the relax warranty is valid only for 10k miles or 1 year to prevent overuse e.g driving it as a taxi - But even those that stick within their specified framework sometimes get short changed for "fair wear and tear" which to me doesn't make sense.
-
I didn't do it myself. It was done by the dealer who sold me the car. But from what i understand from others on this forum its a straightforward swap. Nothing needs to be coded. Some early models had an issue with the head unit failing after a battery swap so would recommend switching it off before changing the battery or better yet pull the fuse before changing.
-
I think if it says it is covered and you have the relax warranty then it should be covered. They cant make excuses to get out of it. They most likely cant claim fair wear and tear as its a parking sensor. Dont think it is meant to wear out. On a separate note i dont totally understand how or why warranties have this fair wear and tear clause. Surely if the manufacturer is saying they warrant the car for xx years and they say xx part is covered then they believe that those parts shouldn't go bad within that period?

Yes clean it with a leather cleaner like autoglym. The idea behind a specialised leather cleaner is that it doesnt contain harsh ingredients but can still dissolve and remove stains or grime that cant be removed by dry cleaning like dusting or vaccuming. Also after that you could condition it with a leather balm of some sort like autoglyms leather conditioner. Despite the top coat leather is naturally porus and the conditioner gets in the pores to restore natural oils etc making the leather soft / slightly puffy but this is only if it is real leather. Alternatively you can use a wax polish to shine and protect. Some come with added colours to help restore your finish. If its one of the artificial leathers then they arent as porus or absorbent from what i understand and you could still clean it with autoglym but after that you could use a wax type product.

Confirming the battery linked above is the one I have. One thing though is the vent tube doesnt fit it probably needs an adapter or something maybe it came with one but the used car dealerthat fitted the battery probably didn't bother. I have heard of people calling up yuasa and being sent an adapter free. I have just left mine disconnected for now.
-
I think people should stop buying the original battery if thwy dont drive regularly. Sounds like there are several reports on this forum of issues if not driven regularly. I have a Yuasa sealed silver calcium battery that im sure is cheaper than the original and i also use my car infrequently ie just about 30-40 mins 3 days a week and have not had these issues(touch wood). Ive gone on holiday and left the car standing with the battery connected for close to a month without issues. The wifes jazz also has a yuasa and its been 6 years now no issues.

I did...i bought a wire pulling kit on amazon especially for this it still didnt help. The main issue was even with that method the connectors / plugs on the chinese loom were broad and since there were 3- 4 of them, they would get stuck mid way and i had to put my hand in there to pull it through. But depending on your factory head unit you might have fewer connectors. I think the premium nav headunits have fewer connectors. I have a 2014 executive so mine came with the knob and it had 3 or 4 connectors that needed to be plugged into the head unit plus the sockets for the 3 -4 factory wires to plug into. Also attaching an image of what i mean by it didn't fit properly as you can see it was meant to slot under the top part of the dash but it sticks out a bit. But seems like this is specific to the brand i purchased and a nunoo unit should be good.
-
Good it does help boost your DIY confidence. And its a Toyota in the end its one of the easy to work with cars. The connectors should be fairly obvious as the sizes of each plug / socket are unique. Essentially all you are doing is plugging any wires that originally went into your factory head unit into the chinese wiring loom and then then from the chinese wiring loom back into the head unit again. Basically creating a bypass through the android screen. Trust me all that is easy the real difficult part for me was passing the chinese loom through that tight space from the screen to the head unit. Once installed it does look nice though but for me the novelty wore out quickly and I started to have buyers remorse partially because of the fact that mine didn't fit correctly. Hence if you're buying id recommend getting the 1st option with reviews and pictures of others having fitted it. I think nunoo and navirider were brands i seen that had good reviews but i stupidly went after fancy higher specs.

A TPMS light on the dash is an MOT fail unfortunately. So you will need to sort it before your next MOT. As mentioned above changing the battery can be done as a DIY but it needs time. Like you will need to take the TPMS sesnor home and solder in the new cell. Its not an easy swap you can do at the tyre shop. You can consider ebay etc to find genuine sensors cheaper. Here is one such example https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314744520503?itmmeta=01HZG5FVHP6MNND3Q0HH1M0ZCP&hash=item49483c3f37:g:wlkAAOSwNI9mK1~G&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0GuK%2F%2BN6e0QBbvSWqRObXT0nK6--QeF08obMxMcQF06e3FRMUe%2F51Lk4zAIxbQc6yTiQAfnm3vNU2tzLZuUifFLT7j9Zh%2FykXDpjj3KFWZY%2FPxBUmTcxK1%2B43PjPxHhZmGm%2FAPShejypLlEfpeoZk%2F2QsZwYokrSLiatdZN%2BBmNM3DG447nNjf8BL5qNpI%2BGbgxLnAV7Era5LkI2gnjqb9tl5yGZ2%2BUDFenD3PBLw4nZ5XB1AYqj1zn59EWpgioUC%2BsKUtqhp6UHHX3wchZl1oQ%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR_S4v4X8Yw

Yes you can use the normal factory Bluetooth for audio but i dont think your phone can simultaneously send audio to the factory system and use the Bluetooth to connect to android auto. Also when connected to the android side of things e.g when using android auto the audio on your factory system by default switches to aux. So I dont think there is a way of running your songs through the factory unit while having maps etc up on the android unit. Unless I am wrong. I only had it for 3-4 days before uninstalling it and returning it. Perhaps someone who has one currently can shed more light on this. Also i dont think you can get stuck halfway. At the most you might not be able to push the wires through and decide to call it off and reassemble the factory unit back. The USB you shared wont work as that is a wireless adapter i.e if your system already has wired android auto/ car play then you can make it wireless with this usb. It doesnt add it to a system that doesnt have it. A universal unit might work if you really need a larger screen. But its pretty much the same as using your phone. Perhaps order one on amazon or something see if you like it else return it. I think a brand called carpuride is quite popular in this space. Personally I just find using the phone very convenient. You just need a good mount. You can play spotify and run maps simultaneously when connected via Bluetooth. Google assistant actually understands voice commands and it works for changing artists etc as well on spotify. Plus if you're playing from a playlists you can switch tracks etc using the steering buttons. With the ~500 i saved from returning the android unit and putting in a bit more i was able to upgrade my phone to the latest s24u during the pre order discounts and this phone is something i use most of the time so its not £500 locked in the car and it just made more sense to me than investing that much in a gadget that i would use only when in the car.

I would say option 1 as it has reviews of people who have installed it and it looks like it fits. Some of them do not fit properly if you look at the video in option 2 you can clearly see it does not sit flush. I bought one and returned it because of this reason. Installation is moderate difficulty i would say. Dismantling is the easy part..the hard part is passing the wires from the screen down to the head unit. The space is extremely narrow and the wiring loom supplied is quite thick. It took me a lot of time and effort and i got several cuts because everything inside is sharp. Several videos available on YouTube for the American 3is its pretty much the same just the sides are switched. Here is one such video. But watch 2-3 different ones just so that you cover all bases. Just my opinion but overall I didnt like the unit as the audio goes through the aux input and degraded quite a bit vs the default Bluetooth. Plus i found the whole switching between the two systems i.e the default lexus for calls etc vs the android system for music and maps quite annoying. I eventually switched back to just using my phone + bluetooth with the factory system. Didn't seem worth the close to £500 price tag in the end. Your experience might differ. Just make sure whatever you buy has "free returns" that way you can return it for a full refund if you dont like it. Ali express have a warehouse in the UK that you can ship it to so you dont have to send it back to china. But i think you have only 15 days to change your mind.

Did you by any chance figure out who the previous owner was? Maybe from service receipts or other paperwork. If so, perhaps try getting in touch with them on social media and ask them if the car was in an accident / damaged. Try and make up some excuse for why you need that info. If he admits it in writing, I feel like that might be irrefutable proof that the dealer hid this info and should help your case.

Is300h wobbles / shakes when on smooth roads
Notamech replied to Usmanbashir's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I think early model GSs and ISs had some drivetrain vibration issues. I think lexus had a software update for it not sure if it fixed the issue though. But as suggested above rule out the simpler things first. -
Please help me picking an IS 300h
Notamech replied to DarkKnight's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Personally i think if you plan to keep the car for a while i would recommend getting the premier variant vs the f sport. It has all the bells and whistles so a year down the line you wont feel like your car is old and lacking. If you're getting a lower model but slightly newer consider late 2016 early 2017 after that they increased the tax. One of the main benefit to me of the is300h is the £10tax. I wouldn't buy or consider any car above 2016 just for this reason but thats just me. -
Yeah unfortunately wet cars hide defects very well. I learnt this the hard way too and will never buy a car that is shown to me wet or has pictures where the car is wet. The reason we notice defects is when light bends / reflects differently off damaged surfaces vs the rest of the car. When a car has water droplets on it that sort of different reflection/bending of light is happening at every water droplet that is sat on the car making it much harder for your eyes to separate a defect from a water droplet especially small dings, stone chips, small scratches, clearcoat defects etc. are very easily hidden. One more option to consider if you want to peacefully resolve this is to ask them to buy back the car at a closest possible price to what you paid and sell you another car. Then you can decide what amount of loss you think is acceptable vs fighting it out in court which will also cost you i presume.
-
Sounds to me like the dealer broke consumer protection laws by not disclosing the accident. You can potentially threaten legal action. But i think the hard part will be proving the car was in an accident. Things like body filler new wheel etc., while indicative of an accident may not qualify as conclusive proof.

toyota/lexus service
Notamech replied to gji25's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
I don't get it either. What could have driven this decision? Surely its more efficient for customers and better for their brand to be able to market a larger service network if all toyota workshops can service Lexuses? Also as far as premumness goes.... I am yet to experience their "premium" service quality. So far it has only been average at best. -
New (to me) CT200H - Let the fettle begin!
Notamech replied to Redefined's topic in Lexus CT 200h Club
For your aircon regas make sure they use the correct oil. Hybrids need a different non conductive oil for the electric compressors. If you contaminate the system with normal PAG oil you will likely have issues down the line. -
Looking to buy an IS300h
Notamech replied to Aaron C's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Well the hybrid battery is covered by lexus for up to 15 years IF a hybrid health check is run at lexus annually. So perhaps ask if this is done. Also early models had issues with the waterpump leaking so look under the hood for pink crust. The water pump is in the front of the engine its hard to miss its the only thing driven by a belt. Else not much else goes wrong with these cars if maintained well. Ideally look for one that has full lexus history that way you know for sure that all important maintenance has been done.
