  1. I let my insurer (Direct Line) know yesterday that a Tracker had been fitted. Thank you, they said, continuing with, "like dashcams, we don’t count it as a modification so there is no extra premium to pay". I was hoping for a reduction, no chance apparently.
  2. You need all that time to read the manual! It runs to hundreds of pages. 😉
  3. 1. Not if it's done properly and the installer doesn't break any clips or not clip them in fully. 2. Not for me. 3. The actual camera is easy but the wiring could be tricky, you can't just pull it. The sticky pad securing the mount to the windscreen can be difficult to remove bit I wouldn't bother as it cannot be reused. I would leave it in place unless you felt it would affect resale.
  4. I agree with Len that a rear camera is a good idea. I wired my own front and rear cameras and videoed what I did with the intention of editing and posting a complete install to help anybody wanting to give it a go themselves. Unfortunately, I haven't got around to it yet! I'm unwilling to try and describe it here as the dashcam wiring did pass through areas where the side airbags are located and it is very important from a safety perspective not to interfere with their operation.
  5. When checking out suppliers, it is worth checking NextBase's own website (as linked by Len) as they often have special offers. I got the top end 622GW front and rear with high speed SD card for about the same price Lexus were charging for a fitted mid-range dashcam. Of course, I had to fit it myself but you already have the wiring by the looks of it.
  6. Looks like a Nextbase fitting to me, although I guess many models will look similar. Lexus offer and fit Nextbase dashcams so this does seem the most likely.
  7. I thought/hoped that in my second year of ownership I would see an improvement to the predicted range but I haven't. Last year, I achieved a best of 51.1 and 50.6 without and with A/C respectively. This year the best predicted range without A/C was 50.9 and with A/C was 49.9 The difference is probably too small to be statistically significant but I wondered how others had fared?
  8. I agree that the App could and should be a lot better but I wouldn't describe it as crap. Until I got this car, I had never had an App with a car and never felt the need for one. The car drives fantastically and the App neither adds nor detracts from that experience. I use the App for my trip history, EV range and vehicle location and those functions all work fine. I guess it depends on what you're use to and what you expect.
  9. My NX just back from its annual service. I had asked for the tyres to be rotated, as indicated in the manual but the garage said that tyre rotation wasn't included in the servicing schedule. The tyres had been rotated at the last servicing and I had rotated them at the 6 month point. I wasn't worried about the TPMS; if I had a tyre with a low pressure, I figure I would see which one it was; if not, I would have used my tyre pressure gauge to check. The garage kindly rotated the tyres at no cost but did say that their manual allocates 0.8hrs for tyre rotation; swapping the wheels/tyres was easy but reprogramming the system was the bit that took the time.
  10. My car was built in 2022 and first delivered and registered in September 2022. I was proactive in asking for the tracker after reading on this forum that some dealers had offered it to Gen 2 NX owners. I live about 150 miles from my dealer so they may have prioritised mine to save me a long return trip at a later date.
  11. My car just back from its annual service and for ZGG47 to be done and a tracker has been installed. I was given a card with a number to call if my car is stolen but no other details were provided, although I was told that I should receive something in the post in the next couple of weeks. No mention was made about any other security enhancements. I don't think the tracker is related to CanBus, the Gen 2 NX does not suffer from this but I guess the thieves don't always know the difference. I'll post more general details about the system if and when I get some information on the tracker that's been fitted. For now, I'm just treating it as a tracker; there isn't even a sticker to warn thieves, but maybe it will help in the recovery of my car if it does get stolen and may reduce my insurance when it comes up for renewal (forever the optimist).
  12. Do the AA still offer a service where they check a potential new car for mechanical defects? A potential buyer for my Discovery had this done years ago and it included a check for being stolen or being an insurance write-off. The check was extremely thorough and the mechanic found that the crankshaft pulley was loose and would have resulted in catastrophic failure if not rectified. I hasten to add that the car drove perfectly and I had no idea of the fault, which had been caused when Land Rover did an engine change for an unrelated problem when the car was just a few months old. The check (which cost around £50 IIRC) potentially saved the buyer £1,000s. For those needing closure, the story had a happy ending. Land Rover accepted that they were responsible for the loose crankshaft pulley when the engine was changed and fixed the car for free. The prospective purchaser was happy with Land Rover's response and assurance that the car now had an engine 'as good as new' and went on to complete the sale. We exchanged £16,000 in cash in the car park at Stanstead airport which, in retrospect, probably looked like a dodgy deal had anyone noticed!
  13. My dealer told me last year after my cars annual service that I would get OTA updates several times a year. I couldn't find my map version when I had a quick look yesterday but I do wonder if there is a difference depending on which screen size is fitted. Mine is the smaller screen and it appears to use Tom Tom maps. Certainly some of the comments I've read about the satnav system dont accord with what I see on my screen. My display doesn't show speed camera locations for example.
  14. You are correct in believing that you need an annual service (and battery health check) to maintain the warranty. My car is 2 years old in September so I was referring to its second service and therefore classed as a full service (as opposed to the intermediate service it had last year). The screenshot Colin attached to his post above shows the pricing (same as showing on App). PS the App doesn't seem to be aware that I have a Service Plan.
  15. It's true that the battery will deplete at a faster rate at higher speeds than lower speeds but it is also true that you will use more fuel at higher speeds than lower speeds. I think other factors would come into play. At a steady 50mph, the petrol engine is pretty efficient but not so much if there is a lot of acceleration and deceleration that gives rise to an average of 50mph (if this is the case, the EV might be more efficient). There are so many variables, that a fixed rule is probably better considered as a guide.
  16. Lots of berries on the Rowan trees this year which some would have you believe is a sign of a bad winter to come. Maybe a good reason to go for the Cross Climates!
  17. My App is showing that I can book my next service (2 years) for £580. Andrew's advice will allow you to do the sums so you can decide for yourself.
  18. My motivation is that I want to be green and quieter later on in my journey, particularly if the end point is a town or city. There are no motorways this far North in Scotland so a typical scenario for me is the drive from Scotland to Wales. I start in electric until it runs out and then onto the ICE; I switch to use the ICE to charge the battery on the M74 so that when I get off the M6, I can find my B&B (the insurance for many B&Bs precludes EV charging); two days of running about to local attractions on battery; drive rest of way to Wales using the ICE, charging the battery again when I'm back on the M6; switch back to EV mode for the battery to drive through Aberystwyth and to my final destination - where I can charge up using the granny charger for local running around and before setting off for the return journey to Scotland. Hence, very selective use of the ICE to charge the battery and, in my subjective experience, charging at steady motorway speeds doesn't make a big difference to mpg.
  19. No noticeable drop in performance, as explained by Colin. Under normal conditions the 450 is continually maintaining the battery at around 30% on braking or the over-run but it doesn't get much above this as it uses the battery often. This can be seen in the Trips section of the app for a particular journey where you can see frequent changes between ICE and EV (once the engine is warm) even after the battery has hit minimum for full EV use. In these conditions, the mpg is okay because the car is behaving as a mild hybrid as Stephen mentions. The 450 does have a mode where you can force the ICE to charge the battery (up to 80% of a full charge) that does impact on mpg and noise levels. For these reasons, I don't use this mode on A roads but I do use it on motorways where I can maintain a fairly steady speed. Passengers don't notice the change in noise levels and it's not a big hit on the mpg in these conditions.
  20. I'm not too surprised. The server probaly has 2 sides, collecting raw data from the vehicle and sending processed data (or making it available) to the App. The trips are recorded if the server is up but not when it's down. The server could be down for a planned software update, because its been subject to dodgy activity (such as hacking), or because of a software glitch. Since the recent issues lasted about 2 and a half days, I'm guessing yhe latter. As the software engineers ran various fixes, the server would have been up and down. Not ideal and not what we want but after experiencing Microsoft's buggy software for over 30 years, the issues that have hit Lexus aren't a big surprise to me. Fortunately, they don't affect the way my car runs and, prior to this car, I never had, or needed, an app to use or enjoy my driving.
  21. Two trips for me today, first at 3pm, second, return trip at 4:30 both were recorded. I believe that trips fail to get logged if lexus are doing maintenance/software updates on their server.
  22. I take your point David about the extra cost of adding a battery and the environmental impact of mining the raw materials. However, a good battery should last a lot longer than 6 years, albeit with a reduced efficiency. I recently read of a tesla that had covered more than 450,000 miles. I don't think a mild hybrid is designed to travel far on electric. It's big advantage is overcoming the vehicle's initial mass from standstill, where an ICE is working hardest and polluting the most. The reduced emissions are the main reason for hybrids; there is a mpg benefit because the electric motor is more efficient than the ICE at overcoming this initial inertia but you're not going to see a huge difference. Of course, manufacturers choose a balance between all the variables, usually based on the intended market and use for the vehicle.
  23. I do the same. I do find it mildly irritating though that my gauge reaches my one bar minimum only to find that I could have driven for significantly more miles based on the 30 something litres that I put in to fill the tank. Nothing like the range anxiety I would feel if I had a fully electric car though.
  24. As I understand it, the 10.8" standard screen on the Premium doesn't have the speed camera option; it is only available on the big screen. I think this is because the source of the mapping is different rather than it being a technical issue or a feature only available to those who have paid for the bigger screen.
  25. This was covered extensively in a post by Tickedon in November last year. It's title is, ""NX 450h+ fuel tank capacity? Missing 23 litres…" but, in essence, Andrew is right, gauge is very conservative.
