  1. Thanks for that hadn’t thought of using rain x for the cameras
  2. Thank you Nick for your very comprehensive review of the ES300H I’ve had my ES 300 Takumi (my22) since March 2022 and have now completed some 15k miles. change in circumstances forced the car to be used most days rather than garaged, washed weekly and used on special occasions only. however I would like to add a few personal points to Nicks original post which may help other owners For driving around town in built up,areas I tend to use the ECO mode as it limits the power uptake and is more efficient also I find it easier to stay within the 30 mph limit than in NORMAL mode where a slight accelerator press can sedately propel u above the legal limit. I found cold weather played havoc with the overall MPG, I dropped to av 43mpg when normally I get well over 55 mpg on my usual journeys. On a visit to the Lake District I chose to use SPORT mode which I felt gave a better driving and handling experience when motoring around the hills and lanes then use the down shifts( flappy paddles-) to get sufficient engine braking on steep descents. I had the digital wing mirrors option and after this time I’m in a position to give some feedback on them. Basically in good light conditions they give clear images and are easy to view on the displays attached to the front doors. However, for night time use glass mirrors are far superior. The main problem is the camera and video software can’t cope with the high contrasts levels of dark surroundings and bright headlights and the resulting display is very poor with flared images. with the cold and damp weather the camera lens mist up quickly and unless the mirror heaters are used the images are virtually opaque. The mirror heaters work in conjunction with the rear window heater and are on for 10 mins before auto shut off. I always have to have kitchen roll and water sprayer in the car to keep the camera lenses on the whole car clear of water and grime. Never use dry cloth as could scratch the lenses. Good job the internal mirror is okay. however where I prefer the digital mirrors and find them invaluable is the parking alignment lines when parking using the rear view camera. The other plus point is i can glance at the displays where as before I had to move my head left and right to see the wing mirrors as they were not in my line of view any niggles ….. the coin tray box on the rhs of driver needs a foam padding in it to stop coins or keys rattling. Front and rear cameras don’t half get dirty quickly in poor weather conditions needing to use a cable to connect apple car play. other wise I will concur with other uses that the car is truly superb.
  3. Crikey Steve volume level 40. That’s going to be loud …… no wonder ur can’t hear ambient or road noise 😂
  4. I used to use re wire security as mentioned above very good value for money and gives journey statistics to. a few models to choose from to suit current finances and all straight forward to fit
  5. Polarising sunglasses will cure that problem
  6. Just. Quick point while I remember, When front parking and there is a high curb. The sensors not always pick this up and there is a risk you can scrape the front end bumper skirt on the kerb…. Nearly caught me out …….
  7. yes the ES is a long car and takes a bit of getting used to especially when parking. Wworst place I found was Gatwick airport car park, apart from being outrageously expensive I Couldn’t get the car up the ramps in one go ……. However the clever ES parking systems beeped and winked at me and finally automatically put the brakes on before it damaged it self….. then completed the manoeuvre a sort of 2 1/2 point turn 😂
  8. I had the same problem seat wouldn’t remember positions in memory properly. The solution is to program correctly as per the manual , but the seat needs to know the full forward and back position for seat and back rest , ie a reset. however plz remember if the battery is disconnected for what ever reason you have to start all over again to set the positions……
  9. Quite correct early morning cloudy day. To measure external tyre pressure. A 0.2 bar difference is ~3psi. and check certainly before any long journey using motorway for safety
  10. Tyre pressures have been a point of contention of mine for a while now, as what is the correct tyre pressure?? Lexus state the correct tyres pressure is in the manual and on the door post label on the drivers side. Yes this is correct. So for my ES running on 235/45R18 94Y tyres. The pressure cold is 2.4 bar as stated ( below 160km/h). clear ? Err no question is what temperature does cold mean ?? If it’s 3 deg outside 15 or 20 deg outside. From its design is a Japan cold the same as UK cold ?? I take a mean temp so at say 15 deg C outside temp when tyres are cold I set externally to 2.4 bar then recalibrate the tpms system. The TPMS system gives the tyre pressure once the tyre has actually warmed up during a reset condition. So one sets a cold pressure say 2.4 bar reset the tpms system run the car until the display reads a stable 2.4 on all the tyres., but the actual tyre pressure will be higher but the system will, read 2.4 bar.as per its calibration algorithm. So if you externally measure cold tires at 3 deg c. It will be lower than 2.4 bar if the reset was done at 15 deg C . Conversely it will be higher if temp outside goes to 25 deg C. I was told by the techs at Lexus the tpms algorithm accounts for temperature change so as long as the tyres are measured cold at 2.4 bar this will give the best ride quality and best tyre wear. so bottom line is ( as stated in the manual ) externally measure tire pressure when cold then recalibrate tpms system. The tpms will then monitor your tyres and advise if there is loss of pressure. Which is what it’s designed to do ! When I picked up my new ES the tyres were like 42 psi , so after 250 mile I dropped them down to be 2.4 bar then recalibrated as suggested by the dealer.
  11. I can confirm this is fitted to the 2022 ES . Found the setting when going through the onscreen menus.
  12. That’s a very impressive return for fuel consumption. Is that a challenge laid down for other owners to better with their ES ………
  13. Thank you Rishi. For putting up the VED bands and premium car tax yesterday clearly with everything else going up u couldn’t resist hitting the motorist again shame on you u…….
  14. Had a similar problem with the drivers seat not doing what I thought it should do. The steering wheel would tilt but the seat remained in wrong position or wouldn’t move. this is a cure. Hybrid system on, in park , move seat fully forward and hold for 10 secs move seat full back hold for ten secs. Do same for seat back, now set the seat position u want and then press set and 1 with 3 secs. shut hybrid system down , get out of car and lock it, wait two minutes then get into the car, power up then press seat position 1 seat should now move to correct position. Note if you move seat from set position the seat will auto remember it’s last position hope that helps
  15. I have had my Lexus dealer fit front and rear dash cams prior to delivery. Certainly in this day and age having dash cams fitted is surely a must . Can understand u not wanting to fit yourself on a brand new car as both fiddly and possibly could invalidate the warranty if something goes array. I was fortunate as when discussing the car deal I included the request for the dash cam system so it became part of the overall car cost which had discount.
  16. Had theLexus nextbase front and rear camera fitted and had same problem when trying to view the video files the camera power shut down. Solution was the parking mode was active. this has to be disabled first then camera will stay on if unit has been hard wired to power when hybrid system / accessory is on. view files then re establish parking mode. Bit Of a faff but it sorted the issue out. Parking mode function is buried deep in the operating instructions
  17. Malcolm Yes sunny St. Annes
  18. Point taken, for the unsocial elements of our community the fun of yanking at the camera housing is like a red rag to a bull. The camera should be returned to park position when the door is locked so perhaps it is less obtrusive. Replacement cost is probably mortgage worthy 😂 apologies to repeat about this hadn’t seen previous posts.
  19. hello again as asked by several contributors to this post I have added some photos
  20. Lexus offer digital wing mirrors as an option on the ES. On my recent purchase of the Takumi edition I opted for this after having an extensive test with my Lexus dealer in Preston. One has to realise they are very different to plain glass mirrors and the view on the monitors in the car has not the same pin sharp clarity of a glass mirror. However , with the addition of all the warning symbols superimposed on the digitial view it makes driving with them very safe to use. The digital view changes with reversing and turn signal activation to give a wider view. Parking is easier as the guide lines are superimposed on the view and coupled with 360 view makes positioning the car very straight forward. I had perfect parking kerbside when aligning the guide lines. Folding of the mirror cameras can be programmed to move when the doors are locked. any down side ? Er yes. When driving at night the camera has to deal with car headlights from the rear and yet still show the road as well. the digital view does this reasonably well but the headlights tend to halo in the digital view. Despite this the digital view you get is still safe enough to use. One has to remember the digital view is not as well defined as with glass mirrors at night time. I have yet to confirm how they perform in the dark and raining. The digital screens in the car are fixed position and not adjustable might not suit all drivers heights depending on their seat position. However one has to barely move your head and can view LHS and RHS of the car just by glancing at the screen. This morning it was quite cold and the digital view seemed blurred due to condensation on the camera lens housing. This was cleared very quickly cleared with the mirror / rear window heaters. Being a person of shorter stature I find them really helpful in parking using the guide lines as the ES is not a small car. I looked on line to gather further information of these units and apart from one comparison between the Audi E camera version I couldn’t find much beyond one in Japanese showing the functions. They do take time to get used to under different driving conditions took me about a week to fully trust and have faith in the display , however they’ll be like marmite love them or hate them.
  21. Having just changed my ES from 2018 premium edition to the new 2022 Takumi edition I would agree with the comments of Colin. However I’d like to add some subjective views as well….. The ride quality on the Takumi is subtly different I would say very slightly firmer ride. Due to the suspension and chassis change on the 2022 model. Which improves the cornering and handling whilst still maintaining a smooth ride. Subjectively it seems quieter inside when driving can barely hear the engine when accelerating. I opted for the digital wing mirrors , now there a thing . I like them now that I am used to them but I suspect they’ll, be like Marmite love them or hate them but I’ll put a new post about these. If you like your sound and being an audio fan you will be impressed with the Mark Levenson 17 speaker sound system when the sweet spot of volume is reached ( ~36 level volume control ). It’s an extremely smooth and balanced sound with rich deep bass with no boominess. Lexus still have the CD/ DVD player. I tried the DVD ‘pearl harbour’ whacked up the volume and OMG had planes flying all around the car interior awesome….. The headlights are a dream. The best road illumination I have ever seen a very uniform white light projection in front of the car . The HUD display easy to view and not compromising the drivers view. The Lexus ES 300 Takumi edition is a luxurious saloon catering very well for the driver and passengers. I suppose only a LS would surpass the ES but with a cost premium.
  22. I have bought many new cars over the years from different manufactures and dealers but my latest purchase the new Lexus ES 300 Takumi from Lexus Preston put a car purchase and handover experience up,to another level completely for customer satisfaction . If I may indulge in my experience….. Since retiring last year I had the 2018 variant of the Lexus ES300 the Premium model dark blue and was quite happy with the car, I learnt that in 2021 a new variant had been introduced with significant improvements so I thought Id just pop into my local Lexus dealer to have a look and see if they had one in the showroom. I was met and welcomed to the showroom by the senior sales executive James who went out of his way to show me the new model features without any pressure of sale, it was a fact finding visit of 2 hours but I left impressed with the possibility that this might be a worth while purchase if the deal was right; and the approval of my dear lady wife. On my next visit along my wife and I were warmly welcomed and greeted by personal name offered refreshments and allowed to take our time and closely inspect the new ES 300. As long I chose dark blue again I had my wife’s approval! So off to the big Display screens of model configuration to choose The Takumi version Color dark blue , cream upholstery grey interior with walnut inlays drop dead gorgeous …….to cut a long story short I had such a significant amount of positive equity in my current car a deal was struck and the car was ordered in November 2021. Lexus link and the dealer kept me fully informed from the ordering stage, to build, to transit, to dealer delivery and we finally collected the car yesterday. ( 22/03/2022) At handover we were welcomed by name by the centre reception and waiting for us in the handover booth was James with all the final paper work ready to sign. After a personalised presentation of the car and it’s features and fuelled by several cups of their superb coffee and biscuits the time had come for the big reveal in the handover bay, and there bathed in soft white light in the middle of the, floor stood our brand new ES 300 car sparkling with its flawless deep blue paint., perfectly prepared waiting for us …….James went through the new features of the car, maps radio media , set up Apple phone and Lexus link so they all talked to each other and we completed a rather longer test of the superb Mark Levenson sound system. I was introduced to all the team members at Preston and was treated not just as customer but as a new family member at the centre. We were genuinely thanked for choosing them to purchase our Lexus. I cannot praise the whole team at Preston high enough for their tireless dedication to a wonderful customer experience and to the personal and friendly welcomes we were given at all our visits. From my experience if you you want a purchase experience par excellance Preston Lexus is definitely the place to visit.
  23. Yesterday I picked up my brand new ES300 Takumi from Lexus Preston. Perfectly presented at handover complete with a full tank of fuel.
  24. On the order for my new Lexus ES300 I asked for a full tank of fuel as part of the deal. No problem sir we always give full tank fuel…….. will let you know when I pick the car up in mid March …..
  25. Just received notification my ES 300 Takumi ordered in October 2021 is due for dealer delivery March 18 2022 was able to track build and transit on the Lexus link app and emails from dealer advising me of progress.
