  1. Did they state how they are getting locked in their cars? I’ve been locked in my NX450h on 2 occasions and both were my mis-doing, nothing to do with Lexus. It happened when I left the door open whilst installing a dashcam. Upon closing the doors whilst inside the car went into self protect mode and locked itself with me inside. I escaped by climbing into the boot area and using the manual boot release. I since discovered that it was the low capacity 12V battery depleting due to leaving doors open for a (smallish) amount of time and that it is covered in the manual, had I bothered to read it. Lexus clearly state to put the car into “ready” mode when leaving the doors open for such work due to the small low capacity of the 12months battery fitted. Maybe the facebook users also didn’t read the manual 🤔
  2. Unless things have changed in the past month map updates currently can only be done by the dealer. They are FOC but it means that the dealer will need your car for 2 hours. Had ours done 2 months ago & dealer provided us with a courtesy car for the day.
  3. I used ‘Cool car’ who are a mobile aircon service for the wife’s Mazda. They did a full service including regas in under 1 hour.
  4. The send to car feature never worked properly on my previous RX and I found the satnav completely useless anyway. When I purchased the NX it was made clear to me that the app did not support the old “send to car” feature although it was hoped that it would do at some point in the future. I still find the on board satnav pretty useless so just use Google maps hence I can pre plan a route if I need to.
  5. No problems with the app here, everything works just fine 👍
  6. Ken, that was exactly the point I was trying to make to the wife when we were changing from the RX to the NX. The RX only feels much bigger when in fact it is only slightly bigger. I think that the more curved lines of the NX on the bonnet and from the mid doors upwards is the reason why it feels much smaller. Oh, and I do miss the boot space of the RX and the retractable boot cover. On paper the RX and NX are similar but practically the RX can consume more.
  7. Exactly that ^^^^^^^^^^ Its the way of most companies these days, always trying to find a way of increasing director’s bonuses, sorry, I mean profits by using whatever means they can to screw their customers.
  8. Having moved from a RX 4th gen to a NX450 I would agree with every one of your observations Ken, particularly looking and feeling much larger over the NX that the dimensions suggest. As for the seats I found the them to be a little larger and longer in under thigh area than the NX
  9. Looks great Ken, it has got me itching again🙄 We had a very similar hand over experience when we collected the NX from Lexus Ipswich, wonder if the 2nd key presentation case is the same 🤔 Enjoy 👍
  10. I knew you couldn’t resist and I don’t need to tell you to enjoy your RX450h since I know you will 👍. One thing I can assure you of is that I still miss our RX450. TBH the drive in the NX450h, as good as it is, is a fair way off the RX. I do regret giving in to the wife and changing to the NX but in the end it made sense, even more so over the past 12 months since she has had to do all of the driving after I had to surrender my license because of a medical condition. However that now changes, I started being able to drive again this week and after sitting in the RX again today which the dealer was doing a map update on the NX has rekindled my thoughts to change back.
  11. Just to add a few variables: Throttle position, road gradient/rolling resistance, wind direction, temperature/weather conditions fuel tank full or not, passengers in car, etc, etc… As @rayaans said, just let the car do its thing, but if you really want to ‘overthink’ it https://mag.toyota.co.uk/hybrid-driving-tips-for-best-fuel-economy/
  12. Map updates can only be done by a dealer. Updates via dealers are foc for 3 years. Mine goes in on Thursday to have the latest maps installed, I’ll let you know how it goes
  13. Exactly my experience, it really does appear to be specific dealership dependent because I’ve heard negative comments about one other dealership operated by the same parent company
  14. I used to have a RX with the ML system and I wasn’t disappointed at all when I heard that the NX F-Sport didn’t have the option of the ML system. Once set up the I find the standard system sounds just as good as the ML. TBH I never rated the ML system, I think it just a selling point used by Lexus salespeople. To be frank i’d never heard of ML before owning a Lexus
  15. Must admit I don’t find them gimmicky. I’ve had them on all of my cars since 2013 and find that they are a great help turning in to country lanes and a driveway on a dark country lane. I also think that you will find them fitted to most cars these days.
  16. You will probably find that a large percentage of the council tax levy is used towards funding their gold plated defined benefit pension schemes. This is one area of spend breakdown that they never provide. These schemes are so costly to keep funded that they were closed by private businesses many years ago.
  17. Ken, I moved from a RX to an NX but only because we didn’t need a big car any longer and my wife wanted something more easy for her to judge when doing manoeuvres. I had no issues with the RX, in fact I found it easier to manoeuvre and park than the NX because I could see the bonnet on the RX from my driving position, something that I can’t do in the NX since it isn’t as long and slopes more downwards. The 360deg cameras help in both cars. TBH I would go back to the RX in a heartbeat, but since we decided to go down to one car I also have to consider the other half.
  18. Insurance companies will fix their premiums to ensure & guarantee the best possible outcome for themselves. In reality, despite what they allege they do, they no longer insure risk!
  19. The fact that some are experiencing problems after the update and others aren’t is baffling. The only effect that the update has had on mine is deleting the satnav favourites and changing the order of radio stations in the presets. The latter took me 2 minutes to change back again and the former I will save again when next doing those journeys. Everything else seems to be working just as it did prior to the update.
  20. Thinkware can supply side cameras to compliment their dashcams. https://thinkwaredashcam.eu/product/extsidecamera/ As pointed out though, the 12v battery isn’t much use for parking mode - I think I get about 5 mins with my Thinkware dashcam before the camera shuts itself down due to the low 12v battery charge (it monitors the 12v battery. However, if you want an all singing all dancing system they also supply auxiliary back up batteries. Anything is possible, all depends how much you want to spend. https://thinkwaredashcam.eu/product/ivoltminiexternalbattery/ https://thinkwaredashcam.eu/product/ivolt-pro-external-battery/ Disclaimer: I have no association with Thinkware, It has just been my dashcam of choice over the past 6 years
  21. Unfortunately motorists are considered fair game by all bodies who wish to raise cash. Always have been and always will be. Its not just central government, just looks at all of the sce Hermes being dreamt up by local authorities. Good example is the QE2 crossings at Datford. The tolls paid for their constructions many years ago but they just keep dreaming up new reasons why the tolls should not be abolished whilst charging U.K. motorists but ignoring all of the foreign visitors who leave without paying the toll. At least the Severn Bridge tolls were scrapped.
  22. Exactly, and in true fashion inflation doesn’t happen to elements of our government’s taxation policy. The £40k threshold was set in 2017 and will no doubt still be here in 2030 so that every new car is captured by it.
  23. Just to rectify the view that all the NX’s are the same, the reason I went for the F-Sport was for the AVS, which isn’t available on any other NX. After experiencing AVS on the RX for 5 years I decided that it was something that I wanted to retain if downsizing to the NX. Additionally I deduced that the Takumi only provided me with one option which I would have liked which is “Front cross alert assist,” but I wasn’t willing to shell out a further £4k and give up the AVS just to have front cross alert assist. I decided I could make do with the side view from the front cameras. The seats in the F-Sport I find to be very comfortable and hugging, not quite as deep in the cushion as the RX F-Sport seats, but seats I can and have spent the biggest part of a day in.
  24. As others have pointed out, the 12v battery does not have the capacity that one would have fitted to ICE cars. I found this out the hard way when fitting front & rear dash cams during which I found myself locked inside the car on 2 occasions. Yes, before the battery fully depletes it goes in to “protect” mode and locks the car. Not fun having to climb from the front seat through to the boot to be able to use the manual release. The low capacity 12v battery works fine though after leaving the car for 3 weeks at an airport so I guess it does what it is designed to do & now I know what its limitations are I plan accordingly, it doesn’t really present any hardship.
