All sounds very logical Colin. I think the only ‘fly in the ointment,’ and probably why some makes/models appear to be incompatible, is that whilst certain pins in the OBD are common across the industry there are certain pins (1,3,8,9,11,12,13) that are what is called ‘vendor defined options’ All will be revealed next week, looking forward to testing it no matter what the result.

NX 2022 delivery date
RXtoNX replied to KoeNX's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
I think I’d be asking the dealer to show you where it shows this on his system. Not saying he may be telling porkies his dates do seem to be out of step with others. -
Spot on Colin 👍 one ot two of the pins are only live with the ignition switched on. It definitely won’t work on full electric vehicles since I think the signal recognises the alternator charging, which is possibly why some say that it doesn’t with hybrids - presumably when they switch to EV mode. Others say not a problem so I guess I’ll find out if it is compatible with a Lexus 🤔

Great, pleased for you but makes some sense since it was ordered around the same time as mine. Just to demonstrate how up to date the Lexus app is, mine is apparently still in Derby. -
Why would it, please explain? Camera will have an in line 1.5 amp fuse and the power output of an OBD is 4 amp so how would the camera cause a short circuit in the OBD. I’ve had a scan gauge plugged in to the OBD2 connector for the past 7 years on a Lotus. I remember 10 years ago some people were not a fan of connecting a dashcam to the fuse box, arguing that it is safer just to use plug in to the accessory socket. It may not work in the Lexus anyway since such a connector works on some hybrids and not others. We’ll wait & see, if it doesn’t then I’ll be using the now universal accepted method and the wife’s MX5, which I know it will work on, will finally be able to use parking mode.

Same here, £375, hence why I decided to remove & re-install my preferred dashcam

I’ll let you know next week👍. The reason that Nextbase & Thinkware state connect to a switched supply is because if only connected to a permanent live the camera may go in to parking mode whilst driving on some cars. You are correct in what you are saying but, if I read things correctly, the OBD2 connector lead incorporates a module to get around this. I will of course test that it works ok before I go through the process of hiding the wires. Also I know that scan tools will only work with the ignition on. There are some suggestions on the web that such a connector won’t work well on a hybrid car whilst others refute this My wife has an MX5 and it is virtually impossible to locate a permanent live to enable parking mode so, if the OBD2 lead doesn’t work in the Lexus, I will use it on the MX5.

I decided not to go for the Nextbase cameras so just spent the morning taking front & rear Thinkware F770 cameras out of my RX. Now for the task of getting the wire from camera to camera through the NX early next week. Thinkware now do an easy install lead for power which negates the need to tap in to the fuse box with piggy back fuses. Just one lead from the front camera which has a connector to the OBD2 port to pick up switched supply, constant supply and earth. Just unplug it if you want to run diagnostics. Pity the rear cameras aren’t wireless although I suspect the routing of the wire on the NX will be very similar to the RX which, once you’ve figured it out, isn’t too bad to do.

Works best by just hovering your fingers a few mm away from it. If you touch the sensor it is very hot & miss -

Vessels usually arrive at Portbury around 4 weeks after leaving Japan so, working in conjunction with the info given by @Harrier Man, you should be able to estimate the arrival date by looking at the planned forward movement of arrivals at Portbury by using the following link. The majority of Toyota vessels are managed by agents OS-K so look down the chart to see which OS-K agent vessels are due for arrival around you estimated date with the route of Livorno - Zeebruge. https://www.bristolport.co.uk/shipping/forward-movements -

Vessels do have a pre-allocated docking slot but can berth early if a berth is available. Usually Labour is also pre-allocated so If it does berth early then unloading may or may not commence early depending on labour availability. Some Ports have a “follow the ship” model whereby if a labour gang was scheduled to commence at 16.00hrs but the ship arrives earlier they can be required to commence their shift early, although I am sure you can imagine what sort of problems such a contract causes between stevedores and managers in Ports but unfortunately it is the nature of the beast. There is one other factor which occurs during vessel unloading which can affect the delivery timescale but my lips (& fingers) are sealed 🙄 -

Yes, they carry out various checks on the vehicle, do the PDI and fit certain accessories if ordered. 3 weeks +/- a day or so from arrival in U.K. to dealerships appears to be the norm for Lexus, although I’m sure there are some exceptions -

Mine arrived at the dealership yesterday. I don’t know when it arrived at Derby since the app kept changing its mind in its reporting, but I do know that it landed at Portbury on 5th July so I guess 2-3 weeks at Derby which I think is the norm -

Fluid discharge from underneath chassis

My current RX discharges quite a bump it from the aircon -
I would use a 128gb card anyway but is it not possible to format the card via the camera whist it is in there? My Thinkware reminds me from time to time that the card should be reformatted which can be done vis a facility on the camera
-
Thanks Andy, that helps a great deal. Re the battery life, I doubt that my Thinkware would last for 2 weeks if at an airport car park since the parking mode will turn off automatically once the camera detects that the starting battery has reduced to a certain voltage, which doesn’t take too many days on my RX with the starter battery being so small. Re how it works in parking mode, the Thinkware is constantly scanning for movement and when it detects movement it will record a short clip. In the event of an incident it will add 30 seconds of the clip before the incident (can be user adjusted) and 60 seconds afterwards to capture the whole incident before, after and during. You can usually test this by walking around the car, opening a door and slamming the door shut for it to record the “incident” Once again, thanks for your input and photos, it is very much appreciated.

Now I know that this has been covered before and that the dashcam that Lexus supply for the NX is the Nextbase 380GW with rear camera but does anyone have one fitted by the dealer that can post a picture of where it is positioned on the windscreen. I currently have a Thinkware F770 F&R which I fitted to my RX nearly 5 years ago which I intended to remove and refit to the NX, but I do remember that getting the wire through the car to the rear camera was an absolute pig of a job so I am currently trying a assess if I need that hassle again to fit a dashcam that is actually over 7 years old (it was fitted to a previous car before the RX) The Thinkware F770 is really handy since the camera itself incorporates a speed camera database which is regularly updated. I also fitted the front camera on the cover behind the rear view mirror rather than the windscreen so that it was hidden behind the mirror, something that was not possible if fitted on the windscreen. Questions re the Nextbase 380GW for those who have it fitted as follows:- 1. Would you mind posting pics of exactly where on the windscreen it is fitted 2. I understand that the Nextbase 380GW only connects to a switched supply and that to enable parking mode you need to use an additional al battery which fits inside the camera (unlike the Thinkware which connects to a permanent and switched supply, the permanent one being used for motion detection in parking mode) - Does this additional battery recharge whist the camera is running in switched mode? - If not how long does the battery last Hopefully someone can help since the Nextbase is a little short on technical info

Sorry James, got my months mixed up, 5th June should read 7th July, 5th June was notification of build complete 🙄 one thing I have learnt over the past few weeks is how inconsistent Lexus Link app is at updating events. The MyLexus site has been better but message updates disappear quickly and even the MyLexus site sometimes hasn’t been up to date with the messages received. However, both now state “your NX is on its way to Lexus Ipswich” & dealer confirms expected delivery to them on Tues so 🤞 edit: scrap that last para re app etc, both showed the above this morning, MyLexus site now shows “in transit to Lexus centre” (Derby) and the red line has gone back to black. Lexus really do need to sort out their order tracker & app. Main thing is dealer confirms it’s on its way to them so as I say “🤞” -

TBH I don’t know when it arrived in Derby, the Lexus app and the MyLexus website are only consistent in their inconsistency 🙄 The message “your NX is now on its way to the Lexus centre” (which I assume meant Derby) was received on 5th June. -
