  1. I'd be surprised if it was glowplugs if it starts and idles for 30 seconds before cutting out. Does it idle roughly before it cuts out? Have you had any codes, when was fuel filter last changed?
  2. I haven't heard of anyone failing on emissions tests themselves just from a normal remap on these cars (unless it's a rolling coal type situation), the people who fail will typically fail due to the DPF or EGR valve being physically removed from the car/obviously tampered with, this is an MOT fail. Follow this guide for the EGR Valve cleaning, it's an easy job to DIY
  3. Have you tried just giving the EGR a really good clean?, there's videos on youtube. You need to get it squeaky clean so that the valve seats properly when the valve is in the 'closed' position. Go to the IS220D Owners Emporium page on Facebook and search Letopower or Matej Slezak if you decide to delete, however, this is illegal and will result in failing MOT if your implementation is outwardly noticeable. For example, if you remove the DPF unit and replace with a straight pipe you will likely fail. You'd need to gut the internals of the DPF while leaving the unit outwardly intact. This can be done on the car, it's not a fun job without a lift though. I've never had a problem for MOT with my IS220Ds which have had EGR/DPF deletes. I believe DPFs can be cleaned, but for a proper job they need to be taken off the car and cleaning fluid is sent through it, this is the legal option. I've never done this so can't vouch for the effectiveness, but I've seen videos where loads of gunk comes out. It's a tough decision and a real shame that the early implementations of diesels emissions equipment are usually so poor (DPF, EGR, AdBlue). YMMV but doing the deletes was transformative for my cars, however, I cannot recommend it due to the legality situation.
  4. I'd try and get access to a press if you can. Remove the complete knuckle and press out the bearing hub, nice and easy.
  5. I have two IS220D. Both 2007, one SE-L on 130k miles and one SE on 157k miles. Yes the IS220D is probably the worst car Lexus ever made, but it's still a great car. This is doubly true when you consider how cheap they are, I got both of my cars for less than £2000 total and I've put probably 15-20k miles on each since purchase. The spec of these cars is absolutely unmatched at that price. Neither have had any issues with head gasket. They have had injector seals replaced when one started chuffing but other than that and the well-known issues with caliper slide pins, (also applies to IS250 and not a problem if you remember to grease them) I have only replaced parts I would expect to have given up the ghost at this mileage (brake pads/discs, shock absorbers, ARB links / suspension bushings). Both of mine have been remapped and EGR/DPF deleted, which I know draws substantial criticism/ire from certain members of the forum, but still passes MOT/emissions with no problem whatsoever and runs much nicer for it, helps with the awkward gearing. I can get 40-50 MPG easily. They are cheap luxury, do your homework, know what to look for and they're a no-brainer. Ensure your driving style is suitable for a diesel car, keep up on preventive maintenance and you won't go too far wrong.
  6. They emit it into the environment, ergo blowing it into your face. I never said fishing is morally bad either, doesn't mean I think its morally good. I don't have an opinion on the morality of it, I don't really care if I'm honest. The fact is there are much bigger causative agents of carcinogen release that we should be more worried about. If the DPF is gutted, it will not be picked up on MOT, so how will the car be instant scrap? As I said, you are scaremongering.
  7. I never said it was morally good, I just said that his car is not gonna necessarily fail MOT and be scrap just because his DPF is gutted.
  8. Where did I indicate it was something to be proud of? I didn't, I said that many people do it and drive their cars perfectly happily, so the idea that this car would be instant scrap because the DPF is gutted is nonsensical. Making false equivalencies that driving a diesel car with DPF gutted is somehow comparable to dumping used oil in a river shows just how moronic/one-eyed your viewpoint is. Again, I'm not arguing for the morality of driving a car without a DPF, I'm just stating that if this particular car has its DPF gutted, it will most likely pass MOT fine and in all probability, it will drive better, and be more reliable than a comparable car with its DPF intact.
  9. Could well be clogged fuel filter, commonly they're not changed often enough on IS as they are a pain to access. Although usually this doesn't leave you stuck in limp home mode, it's just a transitory issue.
  10. Tell that to the 10s of 1000s of people driving diesels with DPF/EGR deletes 🤣🤣🤣. You can argue that its immoral and illegal, but to claim its basically scrap because the DPF has been gutted is ludicrous.
  11. Appreciate the response, would be great to see a tutorial as to which resistors you swap around if you're ever at a loose end! Seems a very smart unit, really brings the car into the 2020s.
  12. Ahmed, I remember you posted about the Teyes CC3 that the climate controls are set up as standard for LH Drive, but that you managed to swap some resistors? over to rectify this. Was this the only janky aspect to the Teyes, as everything else seems to work more or less out of the box?
