I'll be doing it myself. Unfortunately the only way to tell is to pull it all apart and if it's already stripped down i might as well get one ordered to avoid leaving my car on axle stands for a few days. I can always return it if i don't use it. There's a bit of a judder when trying to pull away gently at low revs which from what i can tell is the DMF being nackered. I'll get the SMF, Clutch kit and new bolts ordered ASAP while keeping my fingers crossed the car lasts until then. Kids off school next week so that's great timing really. Where did you get your Exedy kit from? Google let me down earlier trying to find it. Altho i am half tempted to get a 5 paddle clutch, but as they're not sprung and i'm converting to SMF the gearbox is going to take one hell of a battering so could kiss my synchro's and mounts good bye.

I'll start pricing up these parts and hopefully not be on the phone to the bank asking for a second mortgage.

So unfortunately my clutch is starting to slip. I had a feeling it was slipping so this morning i took the car out, pulled the revs up to 3k and let out the clutch in 6th gear and sure as anything the revs held at 3k while the car accelerated forward slowly. https://www.fensport.co.uk/products/clutch-kit-lexus-is250-gse20 I've found this clutch kit which is reasonably priced but while i'm under the car i might aswell jump in the deep end and change the flywheel also. https://lexibreak.com/products/is250-single-mass-lightweight-flywheel This flywheel is is pretty cheap weighing in at only 10kg Does anyone have experience with this company? https://www.performance-gears.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=67 This flywheel is slightly cheaper and weighs 11.5kg. https://www.autoperformancepartsdirect.com/spec-06-08-lexus-is250-2-5l-aluminum-flywheel-specsl25a This flywheel is bloody expensive... I don't suppose anyone has any experience with any of these or could recommend the parts they used themselves. I'm going to assume the clutch has never been replaced in my car at 135k miles and the previous owner looked like the type to drive hard and have some fun so it's most likely a good idea to swap out the flywheel at the same time.

My back box fell off in the exact same place a few months back. I inserted some mild steel tubing maybe 1/2 inch in to the backbox and welded it up. Cut off 1 inch worth of pipe and welded the fresh unrusted pipe to the mild steel. Please ignore my lack of welding skill. The grinder and can of paint makes me the welder i'm not.

Just to update. The clunking i was hearing was the brake pads moving only a few mm when applying the brake. I found a very old youtube video with very little views that was showing the same issue. He replaced the backing plates and it fixed the issue. I made some plates from old coke cans which fixed my issue so ordered new plates from Aliexpress. No more clunking under braking. Honestly it has driven me insane and without finding any other issues i attempted to live with it until this random Youtube video popped up on my feed. These are the plates i got which fixed the clunking.

Hey sorry for the late update. So after a ton of searching i found a very old with very little views Youtube video of some guy showing the pads moving only a few mm which caused a clunk. He put new plates in and it fixed the issue. So being the cheapskate that i am, i cut out new plates from a coke can and slotted them in. Low and behold the clunk was gone. Ordered some plates from Aliexpress and it's completely fixed my issue. That tiny pad movement caused such a clunk that it felt/sounded like the suspension or subframe was moving under braking. These are what i made at home with a coke can. It fixed the issue and i bought a set which is working perfectly.

Hey. Have you checked under the rear seats? The fuel pump is located under them which is sealed with a rubber gasket. The rubber could've finally given out. Go give the back seat a sniff 🤢 and report back.

You just made me check my logbook and go "Hmph" It does indeed say under vehicle details O.1 1500kg braked and O.2 560kg unbraked. The problem with this is the MAM is 2055kg while the Kerb weight is 1710kg so surely adding a trailer+load of 1500kg goes way above the MAM unless MAM is for the car itself and i can still add 1500kg bringing the complete combined weight of car+trailer+load to 3555kg. I assume this is the case. -
Thank you. This confirms i don't have the shims for the car. I do have the fitting kit (Thin spring like bits that hook over the top of the pads/sliders) Can driving without those metal shims be a cause for a loud clunk as if a ball joint was broken and two large bits of metal collide when you press the brake sharply but not hard and when you release quickly while moving have it clunk a second time? Just had a look on LPD and they're really really expensive... Are they just a sheet of steel? I may have to do some DIY experiments with some snips and sheet metal to create my own and see if that prevents the clunking before diving in to that cost. EDIT: Just went for a drive and if i pump the handbrake while rolling forward i get the exact same clunk as if i use the footbrake... My suspicion is the disc itself moving forward/backward as the holes for the wheel bolts are oval rather than round so when the brakes grip the disc the wheel continues a few mm creating the large clunk sound i'm hearing.

Looking at this image, the black section with writing on, that is not brake shims are they? Just installed new pads and shoes and completely forgot to check but i remember seeing the black almost like card feeling bit on the back like in this image. Should i have a metal plate behind the pads with grease? Secondly... I still have a clunking sound under braking that clunks as you press the brake and clunks when you release the brake on the rears. Fronts are fine. New pads/shoes didn't fix the issue and again with the pry bar i'm unable to find anything that moves within the suspension. Could it be a bad CV joint or possibly rear diff mounting? Those are the only things i've not checked. Driving me absolutely nuts i can't solve this. Any possible GoPro mounting locations under the car to see movement? I have a small ratchet strap i can use to mount the camera with.

E10 eats away at the rubber seals etc... I've run my IS250 on E10 almost since it came out and i've got zero issues beyond a little less ommpff. Altho i'm fully aware at some point i will most likely need to replace some rubber seals/fuel lines. From my understanding the main pump seal inside the cabin can be destroyed over time and leak fuel vapors in to the cabin which is a HUGE no-no for Lexus so instead of just swapping the seal with an updated rubber compound they just rate the IS250 for E5 only. From a few threads it looks like the E10 seals are the exact same part number as the IS250 E5 rated seals which means at some point the rubber compound was updated so if it does fail you car will eventually be ok with E10 as you replace each seal as they breakdown. There's others with more info so take a good read, IMHO the only difference between E10/E5 is price, power and MPG.
