  1. The Britax Duo Isofix is great.

The Fair Bimbofix G0/1 is good too but has a leg instead of a top tether.

Don't get the Lexus one - it is just a dearer Britax Duo Isofix.

Does the new IS have a top tether anchorage?

Does it have ALR rear seat belts that 'ratchet' if yiou pull them right out first?

  2. ...the dummy's head hit the A post on the new IS at recoil. I have always thought it's too close!

I wonder how NCAP will read this - I am assuming this is the data that NCAP will use for their assessment...though sometimes they do their own.

They have done separate tests . All Euro NCAP test results are done by them (specifications are slightly different)

I'd rather hit the a pillar in the new one than the (stiffer) B pillar in my old one however.

either way it is nothing to worry about!

  3. Hi

I am having trouble with my IS300 stock stereo.

It was fine until a couple of weeks ago.

Now the left channel is cutting out/lost when playing CDs. If you shift the balance fully over to the left you get a hissing and a faint version of the music - occasionally trying to play at normal volume for a moment. The front and rear left speakers are the same.

The Right channel is working fine front and rear.

This problem is the same with any CD.

When you switch to the tuner it works fine FM or AM through all speakers and sounds normal.

Could anyone help me with where to look first? Does this imply it's a problem indside the head unit itself?

I've done a search and got the instructionsto remove this but not what to look at inside it?

I can't find anyone else who has had this problem, which seems odd. Is there anything a lay person could do?

Alternatively anyone know a good place to go to near Coventry/Rugby?

    Any help/advice much appreciated.

  4. Yes I'll probably buy one, but I'll go for a 2nd hand one that's 2/3 years old rather than lash out on a new one again.

I completely agree. My IS300 cost 13K and at thast it is a real bargain. I'll get a 250 when they are 13-15K and the MMS is 1K extra instead of 2.5.

If they are selling so well why do Lexus dealers have them for sale on the forecourt?

  5. There is no doubt they are dangerous to vulnerable road users (bikes/pedestrians/motrobikes)

    i. Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety. Bull-bars. London: Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety, March 1997

(Type IV evidence - observational studies)

ii. Hardy BJ. A study of accidents involving bull bar equipped vehicles. Study No. 243 Crowthorne, Berkshire: Transport Research Laboratory, 1996.

It may also mess up your airbag fire times.

    I wouldn't fit them.

  6. Imagine working in a very posh 5 star hotel.

In comes Mr Bloggs who is looking for a comfy bed and a good nights sleep.

No problem, we can help, but so can the travel lodge down the road, who can offer the same comfy bed and good nights sleep.

However, for some reason, Mr Bloggs fancies having his good nights sleep in your 5 star hotel, but only wants to pay the same as the travel lodge.......

I ask for discounts in 5 star hotles too. and it works nearly every time.

  7. I'm a little concerned with what the battery meter is reading...

this is where my needle sits at idle after 3 minutes of light reving.

    battery_meter.jpg

Please let me know if this is correct

(PS: before i start the engine and have the ignition 'ON', the voltmeter reads a little bit above 9v  )

That meter is reading approximately 13.5 volts at idle (halfway between 12 and 15), which the previous poster said it should do (13.8v). It is fine.

  8. i wouldnt bother with the radio side of things,  the transmitter u have is it a proper ipod transmitter???  if not what does the info with it say?

i think u have a transmitter designed for Japan etc as the FM range there is 76- 90 mhz

Yep, I bought it in Japan. And the instructions are in Japnese too, of course. What a chump! I suppose I've just got an expensive charger, then

  9. Hi All

I've been reading about the various possibilities to connect mp3 players to the IS on the forum.

I have an iPod and FM transmitter which flicks between 8 different frequencies.

However these are from 77-78MHz and the normal IS radio tuner is 80-108MHz.

Does anyone know how the IS tuner can be made to go down a little further? (i know it is not on the best settings)

Or whether the iPod transmitter can be forced up a little?

  10. I too swapped my IS200 for a 300.

Wish I'd tried the 300 first.

Agree with all the comments (though I went from 29-27mpg).

I also find the suspension better and the steering weighted better.- it is like a more substantial car.

I use the cruise control a lot theses days in 40/50 mph limits with speed cameras. I can concentrate on the road instead of the speedo.
