Love hate relationship with mine as I have posted before. Light and easy to store, once you have mastered the foldng. Unhooking it drives me mad, the suspension cords that attach to the boot are ok but the loops seems to attach to a barbed fishing hook. Optional designs I have had on other cars are rigid ones, nice picnic shelf but where do you store them. Roller blind type, as above plus the one I had on my Audi A4 weighed a ton. Bill D.

The Lexus manual in my opinion is pretty poor. The so called index finds nothing most times, you have to wade through all the likely looking sections before you find, by chance, what you want. Even in a printed document these days, electronic searches at the publishing stage should produce a comprehensive contents section. Bill D.

Running higher tyre pressure?
Bill Dawes replied to Mike KL's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
I have always found that dealers put higher tyre pressures in, as they do with higher oil level, a less desirable habit than higher tyre pressure I would have thought. Your tyre pressures will increase will increase/decrease anyway with ambient temp and running friction. Gas density wiil increase by ratio of absolute temperature if the gas is constrained in a vessel, this is why pressure increases. A tyre as a vessel is elastic so probably not to the same extent as a relatively rigid vessel. If free to expand it will of course decrease in density by inverse ratio of absolute temperatures. Just returned from a 900 mile holiday from Somerset to Norfolk, 56.3 mpg, temperature as we know not too high so a few more degrees would have probably gained another couple of mpg. Bill D. -
Feeling hard done by at my recent insurance hike from just under £300 to over £800 I spoke to a friend of mone who has a Toyota RAV4, (2022 same as my UX) his renewal was £1950. Bill D.

Polishing infotainment screen
Bill Dawes replied to Rizzoe's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
I posted on here back in 2022 a couple of weeks after I picked up my new UX, I discovered some deep scratches on my screen (not the big one) the dealer replaced it under warranty. At that stage I had not so much as flicked a duster around the inside. I was difficult to see unless you viewed it from a certain angle. I looks to me as if the screen material is quite delicate. AWD/4WD v 2WD What are the advantages?
Bill Dawes replied to Sgelten's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
My UX is just front wheel drive and I have had several instances where having to pull away smartly from a busy junction saw the wheels scrabbling for grip, also caused a bit of a problem recently on a grass car park. my Kia Sportage had smart AWD which only connected when wheel slip was connected, this meant that you did not pay the mpg penalty of permanent AWD. The difference is considerable, a smart take off has a momentary slip then pulls away with no drama. Especially usefull if you tow a caravan like I did with the Sportage, the UX is not really the car for caravan towing though. Bill D. -
Six speaker sound system - good/bad? UX 250h

Six speaker sound system - good/bad? UX 250h
Bill Dawes replied to N GJ's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
I have the Levinson one in my Takumi and to be honest it is wasted on me. I have always wondered if a high spec sound system in a car is a waste of money anyway unless you are stationary, all the background noise even in a quiet car must drown out all the discrete tones and quality. Bill D. -
Hit many potholes that made me wince but touch wood none that has caused damage as far as I know, someone I know that works in a tyre fitters said they get lots of cars in with wheel alignment problems due to potholes. My worst experience was a purpose designed 'pothole' a car trap, not on my Lexus, my previous car a Kia Niro. This was in St. Ives, the Cambidgeshire one not Cornwall, our first time there we were looking for a car park and innocently turned up what I thought may be the entrance to the car park on our left turned out to be a one way street and ending in a bus only lane at the traffic lights back onto the main road. We stopped at the red lights and when they changed to green moved off and had the shock of our lives, banged down this pit, not visible as it was covered in grass and weed, you know like you get in the centre of a narrow lane. We had to call the AA rescue, that ruined the rest of our holiday, have checked several times over the last 2 years since this happened and it is still going on, several times a week apparently. How does a council get away with this. Would we get away with it if we dug a pit to stop people using our drive. Bill D.

Anyone had to renew insurance lately, mine due next week and it's gone up by a factor of 2.7. Had heard about massive increases due but still a shock. Bill D.

Silly things about my UX
Bill Dawes replied to Bill Dawes's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
I should have said 2022 UX, doesn't time fly, 20 months old already. Bill D. -
I like my 2023 UX Takumi but despite being top of the range spec I find a few things irritating. That dreadful boot cover, a pain to get those loops detached/attached to the hooks on the side. Took me a while to master the folding up technique without it whipping undone and smacking me in the face. Why only a map pocket in the passenger seat back, other (cheaper) top spec cars I have had two. Why no rear door pockets, I know there are speakers there but they could have squeezed a small pocket in there. A boot light in the lid would be useful, on the face of it a lamp each side of the boot sounds good, which it is as long as the boot is empty. My last car had a sunglasses case obove the windscreen, useful, avoids taking up space in the glove box and easier to reach. Wouldn't it be wonderful if a car manufacturer bought out a model that copied all the best ideas from other manufacturers and made the complete car. I do admit that I am a bit of a cubby hole storage nut, maybe others only carry the drivers manual supplied with the car. Great car that could be a lot better packaged for rear seat and boot room, maybe the next major revamp? Any other pet hates guys. Bill D.

oil dipstick reading high
Bill Dawes replied to fourbanks's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
In my experience over several car brands the oil level after a service is always on the high side. There is bound to be a tolerence on this, I can't imagine the car manufacturers would mark the dipstick, for joe soap public use, with the absolute limit beyond which it would damage the engine. The last few new specs I have had were supplied with an anti glare coating (extra cost of course) I've never been totally convinced they make any difference to be honest but not had the opportunity to do back to back tests. My specs are also vari focal with photochromic action, never been sure whether they are as good as plain vari focal for nightime driving. Any thoughts guys. Bill D.

Picking up new car, Full tank of fuel?
Bill Dawes replied to sahal's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
I would say you need to ask to be sure. I made it part of the deal when I was negotiating the price on my Takumi. Bill D. -
Just returned from a 3 day 320 mile round trip up to Birmingham from Somerset. Got up to 49.8 mpg at one stage but couldn't quite get to 50. I don't drive slowly but neither do I drive rapidly. Conditions very cold, scraping ice off in the morning, heated seats and steering wheel used frequently. Bill D.
-
I don't think I have ever had such a low figure as 10k miles over many decades of driving, I would expect 20K plus, may be 30K. Do you drive fast, corner and brake hard? rapid tyre wear is the penalty of hard driving as well as poor economy. I usually drive up to the speed limits but gentle acceleration, cornering and braking. Bill D.

If you are looking for a family car I would suggest this is not the one for you, My eldest son has three small children and our UX does not have enough room for all three. Mind you modern day child seats are like armchairs, ask any grandparent what is their worst technology nightmare and it won't be multimedia or suchlike it will be child car seats and folding pushchairs, push this, hold that, twist the other. I have a 2022 UX Takumi 250H, it is slightly bigger than my previous car a Kia Niro which had better rear seat and boot room than the UX. However it is more than adequate for my wife and myself and I love the comfort and quiet ride despite my initial fears over the run flat tyres. I had to go to the Takumi to get some of the features I had on my Niro so have to pay the annual road fund hike as it was over £40 list, an onerous and unjustified burden in my mind, it is exactly the same power and emissions as the lower spec ones so don't see the logic of it other than a 'rich mans' tax (i'm not rich, just a little treat buying what is probably my last car after over 60 years of work) Good luck Karen. Today I'll mainly be moaning about ...
Bill Dawes replied to Steve's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
Especially this forum that posted twice. And to be a bit more specific, everything going on in todays world of neutralising every thing and everybody, gender quotas, making TV adverts supposedly more representative of todays population when in fact it does just the opposite, whitewashing literature and history, open house to every villain in the world and just generally unpatriotic opinions, the few remaining old WW2 soldiers must wonder was it really worth it all. Fortunately when I come out of my depression I realise that the majority of people feel as I do, the ones that make all the noise are a minority with big voices. Come the revolution comrades 🤣 (PS I'm not a marxist, I see my self as a left wing capitalist or a right wing socialist, on reflection that's worrying, doesn't that make me a liberal!!) Bill D. -

Body coloured wheel arch trim
Bill Dawes replied to PaulWhitt20's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
I have a 2022 pre facelift UX Takumi and it certainly has the body coloured wheel arches. if I remember correctly it was a bit of a pre facelift upgrade just before I ordered mine in Jan 2022. I never did like the black ones, thought they didn't do justice to a premium car. Bill D. -

I did try phoning Lexus Bristol on Saturday morning but just got a recorded message stating no calls being accepted on that number at present. Guess it must have been the changeover day. Bill D.

Thanks Nick for confirmation of breakdown cover, did you have any documentation with your car concerning this? Bill D.
