  1. I’m conscious of using the delivery date to discuss vehicles already delivered so I’ve started this one so new owners can share photos and opinions. That glossy panel is a PITA. It reflects the light from the drivers window and catches the corner of my eye. It justifies that woodgrain effect on the Takumi.
  2. Took the photos on the way to work. The dashcam is temporary until I get time to vandalise the interior. It’s very quiet and feels like it will go well. The journey is 23 miles each way and it’s a lot of steep hills, then a stretch of motorway then into Manchester City centre. It’s showing 51 mpg where the best I got from the previous NX was about 36. That all needs to be verified of course.
  3. Haha, I’ve sorted it. It’s one of the 4.2 million options on the the screen. Photos later I promise. It’s a work day so it has to be slotted in!
  4. Has anybody worked out how to zero the average fuel consumption thingy?
  5. Collecting later today. I got a notification from the App warning that all the doors had been left unlocked and that I should attend to it. Of course, it was having the PDI at the dealer so they were working on it. Also showed in very high detail it’s movement from the car park to the workshop and back. It did cross my mind to play a prank and turn the heating up but held back in case it started the engine. I’ll report back with photos.
  6. It’s been designed to be as loud as the engine but not louder so it is only a master of use. I think it should be the responsibility of the pedestrian to make sure it is safe to cross not withstanding the needs of the visually impaired - is it any different for push bikes. On late shifts I was waking my neighbour up when returning home with the ghostly wail of Christmas Present so I particularly muted it with gaffer tape. My 2020 NX was silent so what’s good for the goose.
  7. Sheffield. The colour looks solid to me but when you get up close in good light you can see the mica
  8. I’m a mechanic by trade and all this talk of britty leyley’s is giving me nightmares. Of course they were no worse than anything Ford or Vauxhall but it all seemed quite normal at the time. I could change Escort timing belts in about 30 minutes with both hands tied behind my back. Maybe not but the hands thing but the time isn’t an exaggeration. I remember Popular Mechanic magazine doing a four monthly article on preppping your car to go on summer holiday to the south coast!
  9. It might be duff information. Just check with them but I feel the same way as you. 4.9% is too much for me let alone 5.9%.
  10. It was the dealer that told me today. I’ve just looked at the website and it says 4.9% so maybe he’s on about a change that is coming. Sorry to raise alarm, don’t shoot the messenger but I’m only quoting the dealer.
  11. No Ken, that was 3.9%. They will honour the price but not the finance. I’m not paying 5.9%, it’s too much.
  12. Went and sorted the paperwork out today and sat playing in a Takumi in the same colour with the same colour interior (Celestial/Black) as mine. Looking like next week for collection. He also said the finance has gone up again to 5.9% so I’ve decided to break open the piggy bank. At least the price at the time of ordering stands.
  13. Mines migrated from Portbury to Burnaston. I live in Derbyshire - so near and yet so far!
  14. There’s a ship called Brasilia Highway due to dock in Bristol tomorrow night. It’s brought cars from Japan so I’m hopeful mine is on it.
  15. The lower arms and bushes are not serviceable items. You can often change the lower ball joint but the metalastic bushes are the non-serviceable parts. The servicing garage can only be culpable for not spotting any defect but not the failure of them. It’s a while since I studied motor vehicle law but there was a clear distinction between fit for purpose and what I would consider more appropriately merchantable quality. Fit for purpose means does it function as a car - yes, merchantable quality means is the product and all its parts up to the job. I think a judge would consider whether other vehicles of the same type were suspect and how the car had been used. Audi would argue that the parts had only failed due to the operating conditions. So would Lexus. We’re assuming these parts are shot but without seeing them and the report, I’m. not convinced. There’s a difference between parts showing signs of deterioration and here is the price to replace them and parts that are deemed unserviceable. EDIT when I say non serviceable, you can sometimes change the whole metalistic bush but that is a bonded assembly.
  16. My comment refers to the difference to how components corrode when parked outside in all weathers compared to in a dry garage. It’s further exacerbated by low mileage - cars don’t fair well stood around and quickly deteriorate. If you look under a car that has been stood in a dealership for a month or so pending sale, they are often showing quite advanced surface rust but once they are used, the corrosion is quickly eroded away purely by the elements rushing past. Most cars use similar “metalastic” components in the suspension. They assist the springs by twisting under torsion and return to a neutral position. They are painted but when corrosion sets in, the rubber starts to separate from the steel and if the rubber fails they collapse. You could possibly devise an alternative at a price but they give a reasonable service life. I have changed dozens for the above reasons but they usually fail after several years or high mileage. However, they will fail prematurely if the corrosion sets in and that is like I said, after periods of no use or climatic conditions, salt etc.
  17. I can’t find it but this is the RX pdf which has the same clear coat.
  18. I was a bit sceptical when I read about it but the last NX didn’t have and spider webbing even in the brightest sun, it was blemish free. The paint is finished with a self healing lacquer that reforms over a scratch. It’s why you should never polish your Lexus, only wax it. I’ll find you a pdf on it, bear with me.
  19. I don’t know if its unreasonable or not. I bought 2X1litre and 1X2.5 litres of fairly ordinary paint yesterday and with 25% off they came to £108. Things are sky rocketing and now with Putin's antics, they stand to go a lot worse. This scratch free paint on the Lexus is fantastic but I dread to think what it costs. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to pay any more but the price increases might be justified if you consider the supply chain.
  20. Not wishing to contradict but I doubt you’d ever bring a case of not fit for purpose if the suspension bushes go at three years. You might identify an engineering design flaw if every Q5 suffered a similar fault but that would at best lead to some sort of recall or warranty campaign.
  21. If it’s been stood in a dry garage or outside in damp conditions, if it lives near the coast or a place where they use a lot of salt, if it lives in a rural area where the underside gets coated in mud or animal crap. Just standing for long periods instead of being used. I’ve changed dozens of bottom arms and bushes and they’ll generally last a very long time as long as they don’t start to corrode. As soon as they corrode, the bond starts to fail. It can be superficial if it’s not too advanced but Lexus will always use “as new” as the standard.
