  1. If you haven’t got a very good mobile signal you install your updates and maps on CarPlay etc.
  2. A friend of mine went to one of these hand car wash places who handed out one of those paper air fresheners and they left it on the dash for a while until they got chance to hang it on the mirror. Within minutes it melted the plastic front and that single strip with the vents in was £600 plus VAT so the moral is, be very careful what you use on your dash components.
  3. My Mrs left a rear window down just a few mm one day, must have caught it with her finger. It sent me a notification so I phoned her in the supermarket and she was adamant she hadn’t. Sure enough when she got to it there was a gap. Maybe enough for a scoundrel to get a door open so I thought that was useful.
  4. Actually you can look back on your journey info and it’ll warn you if you’ve left the door open. I’d install it a see if there’s anything you find useful. In very cold weather I’ve used it to pre warm the car.
  5. If you’re saying a new car was delivered that way, take it back. That’s a replaceable part. I wouldn’t be quick to blame the material because nobody else has complained about it.
  6. Yes they are good at that kind of thing. The new screen in the 300h offers a second row of icons to quickly access the Lexus settings.
  7. It is what they call washi paper based material. I use Meguires interior cleaner but very mild detergent and lukewarm water is another option. Try a hidden area first.
  8. They are a bit slow I must admit but where an 8 year old BMW is a liability just waiting to bleed you dry, a Lexus will be an asset. Are you saying you can split CarPlay and the BMW interface or keep CarPlay out of it?
  9. The engine horsepower has gone up which could be mapping but I can tell you from experience that the powertrain is noticeably pokyer (is that a word?).
  10. I’m a mechanic by trade and we have a saying “somebody’s been here” and if it’s leaking from either end then there’s a story. The thing is Paul, if a new drive shaft cures it you don’t really need to know what caused it.
  11. There is potential for the 12v battery to go flat as Ryan has said above. This is NOT the key fob battery. You have to be very careful with leaving it switched on unless it’s in READY mode. It will go flat in a matter of minutes if you are listening to the radio or even messing about with the door open.
  12. If you didn’t get it new, who knows what could have caused it. Maybe it’s had an impact or somebody’s jacked under it. Depends how it’s failed of course.
  13. Not heard of a driveshaft going for donkeys years let alone on one 4 years old.
  14. Approaching the car does wake it up - the interior lighting comes on etc but it must be picking a feed up. It’ll get the Lexus guys scratching their heads.
  15. I thought you’d done well!!! No, he’s on the standard tyres but he’s got a hearing aid and might not benefit from quieter tyres.
  16. I mostly wax lyrical about Lexus and Toyota. I’m very confident about Denso products but this Denso auto wiper system that both brands use really sucks - it’s garbage. Having said that, the feed is hooked into the front body control module and it shouldn’t be possible to start after you’ve parked it. It can before you shut it off so just check there’s nothing obscuring the screen on the outside of the sensor. The sensor is the oblong plastic thing right next to the plastic cover by the mirror housing. If the top of the screen is perfectly clean then you’ll have to take it to the dealer. There is one other possibility - has it had a dashcam by any chance?
  17. Sounds like a success story Tel. My mate has settled into his Takumi after what I would say was an apprehensive start. I’ve ridden in several and for those that say it’s a Yaris Cross with Lexus badges, they’ve got no idea. I must say I’m more than pleased with my UX300h.
  18. The notion of having a container round the corner is a ridiculous one. I don’t know if he gets off on the smug goading but they’re a regular occurrence, ignore it. The cars that are at risk will get a tracker and despite the snipes, it will deter a car thief. They hate good quality steering locks too. Won’t make it impossible but it is mighty inconvenient.
  19. How are you getting on with it Tel?
  20. Then it isn’t a Lexus problem, it’s any brand.
  21. You probably won’t save much. Just buy the ones you want Piers.
  22. Mine is quieter and softer with Good Year all seasons on.
  23. The car thieves will soon know about trackers. Then it becomes a deterrent.
