  1. Mazda didn’t get the memo because their latest CX-5 is switchable to permanently off. It’s a revision of the current model but so is the UX. in any case, my neighbour had the 2020 UX and you could default that to off, it’s just this safety system 2.5+ it’s been imposed. My days of reading European Approval documents stopped the day I left the vehicle development industry. The enormous brake regs approval manual was one of those books that once you put it down you couldn’t pick it up again.
  2. It isn’t. Some cars are switchable between on and off. There are very few things I personally would switch off and I think there shouldn’t be an option for engine stop because it’s the only way it met type approval but lane departure can be a menace on some roads.
  3. The 2023 (black badges) has 2 keys and a credit card key. I guess they have to differentiate between the models but it does seem an odd way of doing it. Everything is memorised on the two main keys - seats, mirrors and HUD. I think the heater is too but I’d have to fiddle.
  4. It’s a nuisance. I wish Toyota/Lexus would knock it off.
  5. It must be model specific because mine are led all round.
  6. A slight mod just to lift the back end..... Before; After:
  7. Mines done an indicated 49 but calculated 47.7 on the way back from Scotland. High grade fuel and it’s an E4 with 1000 miles on.
  8. Here’s the oil experiment…… (notice the insulation on the engine cover!)
  9. I’m not normally drawn in by YouTube but old Ahmed, the car care nut was adamant that there would be metal in the oil by a thousand miles so I changed mine today and…… not a bit. Not even the slightest sparkle. However, while I had the boiler suite was on I fitted next doors mudflaps. So here they are - 2 new Takumis.
  10. It is unofficial because they are factory set and should not need adjusting so the only options are to fiddle with that link on the suspension or go in with a screwdriver. The lights should only need adjustment after a new light is fitted or a body repair. The instructions from Lexus say adjust the dip beam and the main beam will come right.
  11. Don’t force it Mick. I’ll take a photo tomorrow.
  12. The headlight height is adjusted automatically by a link on the rear suspension. Technically that is fixed but you can unofficially adjust the headlight aim individually.
  13. It’s academic I know but this is on the darkest road in Scotland…..
  14. You’ve got analogue speedo option. We won’t get to Nairn as my mate has taken ill but still using the air bnb we booked in Drymen. This is the drive to it.
  15. The height of the mirror can be adjusted. That little stalk that appears out of the windscreen cowl can be pushed physically upwards and then re-adjust the mirror. It has a range of about 20mm but that makes a big difference. Mine is on 660 miles now. It is an E4 and is doing just over 45mpg on premium fuel (which makes it very quiet). There’s a lot I like about this car and the sumptuous quality that goes hand in hand with the door thuds described above is very plush. It is very quiet and the engine sounds much sweeter than the 3 cylinder Yaris Cross and very smooth too. You can hear the engine but it has a buzzy sound that sounds like it’s coming from next door’s living room in a semi detached house. I have pushed it a little more in the last couple of days and I can tell it is going to go well and it pulls like a train so all good there. Mrs C’s thermostat is stuck so she loves the ventilated seats and beta blockers make me crank the heated seats and wheel right up on my side. The car has a slightly retro look inside and out which I love. I’m sure there’s more but can’t think right now. I’ll come back in due course.
  16. Mines got two leds low down. I’ll try and get a photo of the reversing camera in the dark to show you. Like you say, bulb upgrades are the first to try.
  17. In what way William. Mine are good enough to make the reversing camera like daylight. You can tap into them behind the bumper.
  18. I know you’re only jesting but there’s a few grammatical errors. I missed a lot of school and I’m c rap at typing so I forgive that. It just doesn’t stack up though. I carry my own booster pack but if I didn’t or didn’t know how to use one, I wouldn’t leave my Lexus open overnight. I’d get someone to it. A smell of burning and intermittent loose steering is not at the top of the list but tinny speakers are 🤷🏻‍♂️
  19. Some sort of troll I’m afraid. Sprinkles corn then never to be seen. Probably works as a BMW salesman.
  20. I’ve never heard such a garbled account. The smell of burning doesn’t get mentioned near the top of the list, but the radio does and a safety concern with the steering is an afterthought. A new Lexus with damp in the wiring or a major ECU issue doesn’t exist. The car is showing all the signs of a flat battery - it will do all of the things listed and it’s a well known fact that the battery will go flat when not used right. It could be a fault with the charging system but even that is unlikely, it’s more likely user error.
  21. A lot of drama here. We’re not talking about an Astra, this is a Lexus. There may be a fault and there may be a lack of understanding but I don’t think putting the social media boot in is due just yet so let’s not act like chavs. The story doesn’t stack up for one thing.
  22. The traffic sign recognition is a waste of time. I’ve never seen it work consistently in any make of car. There’s too many reasons why it can’t so my advice is ignore it. There isn’t a list of problems, there’s one - all the same thing. It needs a bit of testing but it sounds like the 12V battery is low. It could be the battery or the DC to DC converter. The car must never be left with the power on unless it’s in the “READY” mode.
  23. The switch up by the light. You want it flush with the roof panel.
