  1. You could try Machine Mart. Also I am sure you know, but never work under a car on a jack, axle stands are a must.
  2. Personally I would wait a year or two until they have ironed all the bugs out. But no leather only Tahara Synthetic or Ultra Suede.
  3. Looks interesting, similar price, spec and looks to the current RX.
  4. Off topic, but small cars with a big boot... My VW Jetta Mk 2 GTi had a pretty decent sized boot.
  5. But the test drive served it's purpose to confirm if it was the right choice of vehicle for you... Imagine you had purchased online and this get's delivered... PS Lexus does also manufacture larger vehicles 😉
  6. This seems common practice in the insurance industry, I'd suggest making a complaint. https://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/businesses/complaints-deal/insurance/motor-insurance/vehicle-valuations-write-offs
  7. Lots of sites use the vehicle reg to identify the vehicle make, model and variant, I believe there is a database where this info is stored and if it's entered incorrectly then that is the source of the problem. I used to have an estate, but always came up as the saloon version whenever you entered the reg on a website.
  8. From Auto Trader valuations looks like you have overpaid. I would contact the dealer and see what they have to say, could well be an honest mistake.
  9. I've found this the best method too. I know the advice is to check when hot, I believe this is to allow for expansion, so just make an allowance that the level may be below the max when cold.
  10. Should be possible, best to contact a refurbisher and get their opinion. I have found diamond cut wheels do tend to corrode and you end up with unsightly white swirl marks, so powder coating may be a better long term solution.
  11. A conventional automatic would simply detect very little load on the engine and would shift to the highest gear, that's why automatics have the option to select a lower gear in this situation. I don't think the IS 200 has any clever gizmo to do otherwise.
  12. Best practice would be to downshift for some engine braking rather than riding the brakes which could overheat and fade. More likely an issue in the Alps than Suffolk, but still good practice,
  13. That's the Premium pack which does not have it, the Premier was the previous top of the range prior to the Takumi. Yes F Sport with Takumi pack and Takumi are very similar; the F Sport is a bit more sporty (but actual performance is the same) Takumi are bit more luxury orientated.
  14. Not the only option the other's being: RX Premier RX F Sport with Premier Pack (I have this) RX F Sport with Takumi Pack
  15. Suspension would be a good place to start looking, but you really need the car up on a ramp so you can have a good inspection and check for excess play etc.
  16. I also agree driving at least once a week would be good, maybe you could convince your wife just to drive it around the block for 5-10mins when there is no traffic around. I'd avoid using the parking brake as well, choc the wheels instead.
  17. The service schedules are available on the Lexus UK website.
  18. Rather then guessing best thing is to get the fault codes read.
  19. Yes, Google is your friend.... Would seem to be from (https://www.wheel-size.com/size/lexus/is/2006/): 205/55ZR16 89W 7Jx16 ET50 2.4 / 2.6 225/45ZR17 90W 8Jx17 ET45 2.4 / 2.6
  20. I think GPS is unlikely to be wrong. First step is to establish the correct wheel & tyre size that should be fitted and then go from there. If you find you have the incorrect wheel & tyre size then its fairly simple maths to work out the rolling circumference and whether that is the cause of the error.
  21. My dad always kept the starting handle under the front seat of his Morris Minor just in case.
  22. Clearly that's not normal. I do believe in tackling jobs yourself, but you also need to know when to quit, so I suggest finding a reputable mechanic.
  23. Some additional info here: https://lexus2.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8025/~/where-are-lexus-vehicles-assembled-for-the-u.s.-market%3F I think the original history of Lexus was very much to target the US market which has proved a successful strategy.
