  1. I find a microfibre wash mitt is way better than a sponge and can be washed each time after use.
  2. Yes make a complaint to Yodel. You should also report it to the police now as he has committed an offence, ok so Police are unlikely to do much but you should get a crime reference at least, I doubt DVLA would disclose details without this. Failure to report an accident is an offence under Section 170 Road Traffic Act 1988, if you have not stopped and exchanged details.
  3. Recently saw a Rolls Royce Corniche that had "failed to proceed"
  4. Can't really see from your pictures but seems highly likely that is the problem, obviously there will be a bearing and seal where the spindle enters the body of the water pump. You could just keep an eye on it for a while, as long as the coolant is topped up it's unlikely to fail catastrophically.
  5. I think you did the right thing and dodged a bullet. My suggestion would be save up a bit more if possible, yes it will cost you more up front but potentially a very large saving in repair bills. Even if the car had been much better cosmetically at 240k miles there is no knowing what repairs you may face in the future. I know there are owners on this forum with mega miles cars but I think keeping and owning a car at high mileage that you have owned for a long period is a different proposition to buying a high miler.
  6. Why bother reading the legally binding contract when you can ask a stranger on the internet 😉
  7. Probably not, but as long as the car has a hybrid health check (included as part of a regular service) the hybrid battery has an unlimited mileage warranty of up to 15-years.
  8. Certainly the crazy price increases can't continue forever and have already flattened, but I am not sure we will see a crash, I think more likely just a gradual realignment to a more sustainable market model.
  9. Actually I think it would be an expensive maintenance liability in a car of this age. I have it on my Gen 4 RX and to be honest it's pretty slow and annoying. I'd suggest replacing / getting the gas struts checked they do tend to age, should be a relatively quick and cheap fix. I don't think that picture is where the motor would be located, but clearly something is missing....
  10. Being an expert on the eCVT (ie watched a couple of youtubes on how it worked) I don't believe it has the narrow passageways a conventional auto box has which can sometimes get blocked hence differing opinion on whether an oil change is a good idea.
  11. I suspect a Lexus forum is not the most accurate barometer of individual economic health / wealth 😉 Regardless of income I tend to purchase nearly new used (let someone else take the initial depreciation hit) and then run the car until I start to loose confidence in it's reliability and maintenance costs increase. The attraction of Lexus was long term reliability and the Relax warranty.
  12. Surprised the tank is steel and not plastic, do Lexus still use steel tanks on current cars? Unless my Gen 4 RX has a steel tank pretty sure the last time I had a car with a steel tank was a 1980 Vauxhall Cavalier.
  13. Brand new cars can have faults, if you discount this as a possibility without evidence you narrow down the possibility of finding the problem.
  14. It's reliant on the camera and AI so is not 100% reliable and even when it's working it will remove the display after a set period of time. You can set the value at which the display turns red, I have set mine to +5mph.
  15. I kept getting phoned by my energy supplier to have smart meters fitted, the caller stated "they give you more accurate readings". My response was "so you are telling me my energy meters are not accurate?", they quickly shut-up and have not called back since.
  16. From an engineering perspective I don't think that's unreasonable, just think how many potholes a 2-ton car has to navigate in 80k miles. What is less reasonable in my opinion is how much these things cost to fix, so you end up with the situation that cars which are basically sound get scrapped for what really should be basic maintenance tasks.
  17. Seems reasonable, have you checked your policy for the insurance excess? Usually there will be a voluntary and compulsory element, so I have £0 voluntary but still would get landed with a £400 compulsory excess.
  18. Sorry no idea, I suspect most breakers would not know the name either. No doubt you could get the part no from Lexus, but not sure if that is marked on the wheel at all.
  19. How about this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403473254920?fits=Car+Make%3ALexus|Model%3ARX&hash=item5df0e14a08%3Ag%3AYqoAAOSwtfpiCok2&LH_ItemCondition=3000
  20. Has it been modified? Normally shocks would get softer with age not harder.
  21. I think what scum. I agree go for an independent repairer rather than insurance, hope you get it sorted ok.
  22. And just hope you don't run out of charge on a so called 'Smart Motorway'.....
  23. So if simple sign recognition is not reliable (same thing happens in my Gen 4 RX) who would trust a fully autonomous vehicle.
